Pop, Iggy - American Valhalla Lyrics

I have no plans, I have no debts
The mind is not the carefree set
I'm looking for American Valhalla
So if it passes by give me a holler
Please

I've shot my gun, I've used my knife
This hasn't been an easy life
I'm hoping for American Valhalla
But if I have outlived my use
Please drink my juice

Innocence
It's so hard to figure it out
Innocence
It's so hard to figure it out
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
It's so hard to figure it out
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know
I don't know

Where is American Valhalla
Death is the pill that's tough to swallow
Is there anybody in there?
Who do I have to kill?
I'm not the man with everything
I've nothing, but my name

Lowly, lowly deeds
That no one sees
Lowly, lowly deeds
That no one sees

Where is American Valhalla
Death is the pill that's hard to swallow
Is anybody in there?
And can I bring a friend?
I'm not the man with everything
I've nothing, but my name
I've nothing, but my name
I've nothing, but my name
I've nothing, but my name
I've nothing, but my name

  14. Polder Cannabis Olie team

The Iggy is strong on this one, like a none irritating Bowie song.
Stripped from the gay pretentious shit. Natural, like only Iggy can do.
The Idiot is also a good example. Bowie was never able to add that Iggy effect.

  27. Strickland Propane

people saying the Bowie is strong here and such should probably watch a good documentary on Iggy to realize it's Iggy who is strong here. They might have a similar voice, yes, but Iggy is not a copy cat

    John S

So tired of the comparison between the two

    Forest Evans

Both bowie & iggy are great. Bowie is glam rock iggy is proto punk.

  34. fungifago

I inmediatly thought of Gary Numan's Metal, anyone else?

    Ms Prophet

Really? I'm getting "China Girl" by Iggy Pop vibes...

  42. Val Gif

just genial. I already loved Gardenia, but here I'm discovering the other songs... I'm happy at least we still have Iggy Pop.

  43. Saman

    Love Buzz- Nirvana.

  44. assmane999

I hope this album gets nominated for album of the year at the Grammys. And if it is, I hope it wins!

    baliscotsurf

yeah right a grammy will certainly validate their effort...

    assmane999

@baliscotsurf They don't need validation (which what I think you're implying through your sarcastic remark), but it would be nice to see the industry recognize great rock again.

    baliscotsurf

    right..the industry....

    assmane999

@baliscotsurf Don't you ever get tired of being so cynical and jaded?

  45. Eric Kolkey

    Love it!!!

  46. Thenever

    Terrific Video.

  50. Santi909 1205

    🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

  51. Daveena Noir

listening to Iggy's new album, esp. this song, gives me a feeling like someone just told me a wonderful bedtime story.

  52. chri0816

"... i've nothing but my name!!!"

  53. Facu López

    esto me preocupa demaciado :S

  54. MisAnnThorpe

I've now heard about 5 or 6 tracks from this album and I've got to begrudgingly concede that Josh Homme appears to have worked very sympathetically with Iggy. I strongly suspect that Bowje would have heartily approved. Never thought I'd say this, but I might just have to buy this (on vinyl, of course!).

  55. RiawRiaw

    4:27 He sounds BADASS!

  56. Luna Queen

so cool, feel like home; love this ; not alone....

  57. Jon Michael

1:55 to 2:30 is my favorite part of the album

    Jon Michael

    "I don't know I don't know I don't know"

    terligi yersin

    Jon Michael i feel you

  58. Iván Hernández

the intro sounds a little bit like of Metal - Gary Numan

  59. ComeTheDawn 64

Oh what a song. What a lovely song.

  60. Kristine Romanova

    sometimes sound like bowie.wtf.

  61. Hallef Rodrigues

I could definitely see Iggy Pop playing John Proctor after hearing the final seconds of the song.

  62. TheLordGmoney

Oh but do I seize greatly, when this gets played.

  63. Victor Alves

    Beeeeeeeeeeeeeem Velvet Underground, né?

  64. Michael McDonald

Sounds a lot like "metal" by Gary Numan, covered by NIN

  65. Scott Fitzpatrick

the end of this song has a little Mad Max vibe about it lol

  66. ブラッドリーニール

    Dude, this shit's awesome.

  67. Merv Jefferies

Agreed--still not sure about the Led Zep similarity, but I do get the Moving in Stereo reference.

  68. China Girl

I'm in love with this album !! Oo

  69. Ravi Shankar

The Bowie is strong on this one .

    ScarlettCrimson

    +Ravi Shankar That's what I was thinkin'!

    Pete Ormond

The Iggy is strong here, Bowie was instrumental on the solo records that he did with Iggy but kind of did Raw Power a bit of a sonic misdeed. Bowie was/is brilliant but he took as much as he gave from the likes of Lou Reed and Iggy.

    Nachos Borealis

I heard they were friends in the 70's

    Emil Mikael Kjærvik

    @Nachos Borealis off cause.

    John S

So tired of the Bowie comparisons they didn't collaborate since the early 80s then Bowie stole "China Girl"

  70. alan

    dat bass

  71. Shaun Lawton

The album is a masterpiece \m/

  72. Freya Freja

  76. PasteyWhiteboy

Been a while since one of the old legends of Rock came out with a new good album, well here it is motherfuckas

    Anthony Madril

    Fuggin-a man

  77. PaulLonden

No 'Valhalla' for you Jim ...just like the rest of us you'll turn to dust..Anyway you've had your never ending party already. Just like David, these guys suddenly begin hoping against their better judgement that there's a 'heaven' after all....
Must indeed be somewhat scary to realise your party is about to end....Death...the great equalizer.....

  78. Pedro De Matteis - RENDERHAUS

somebody knows who is the girl singing on this track?

    fizzzzaa1

+Pedro De Matteis That girl is Matt Helders lol

  79. Paolo Giancipoli

Ottimo album, dove ci sono le dita sui tasti delle chitarre di Josh il risultato è garantito.

  80. termsofusepolice

This is OK... Could become GENIUS if someone gets Kanye to do a remix and rap over the top of it.

    ブラッドリーニール

    +termsofusepolice Triggered.

  81. heorldofrock

God I really dig this song, so glad I gave this album and chance and gave the songs a listen.

  86. dave steele

    i am 555th like

  87. Ted

The bass is just like: tup tup Josh Homme Josh Homme

  88. pants401

Nine days till the LP lands on my step. Who needs the free album when my money can buy ten times the excitement, for over a month and I still have half an album to discover. Support the artists, enjoy the tunes.

  89. Eric Kolkey

GREAT song!! The entire album is a masterpiece!! I pre-ordered the deluxe vinyl, t-shirt, and CD!

  90. Kayacan Ünalp

sounds like the mash-up of Era Vulgaris by Qotsa and Metal by Gary Numan

  91. Hiesenberg Walt

    This record sounds slammin

  92. Jose Noriega

Not encouraging drug use but I scored some weed and on my walk back I had this song blasting in my headphones. It went so well.

    Howard Philips Lovecraft

    Encourage it!!!!! HAHA

    ronald phillips

Jose Noriega weed is not a drug. its weed. keeps me from killing people that listen to.the radio. yeah and Iggy is badass as ever.

    V8AmericanMuscleCar

I have to try that!! 😃

  93. FromBeyond99

That song could have been on "Like Clockwork" very easily.

  94. Pat MacDonald

Sounds like the melody of No Quarter - Led Zepplin

    Merv Jefferies

+Patrick MacDonald really? how so? maybe a bit of the rhythm, but not the melody

    Pat MacDonald

    +Merv Jefferies

"Close the door put out the lights" (LedZ)

"I have no plans I have no debts" (Iggy)

To me they almost sound like the same notes, I don't know how well your ear is, but thats what I hear..

    theledstone

+Merv Jefferies For me it's both rhythm and the sound effect used on what I assume is a guitar or keys in American Valhalla. The part that kicks in around 0:33 along with the vocals reminds me a lot of the keys played on No Quarter. Add in the fact their both about Nordic mythology (Valhalla and Thor) and they're definitely related/working in similar areas to me. I agree Plants definitely got a couple octaves on Iggy tho haha

    leonakita

+Patrick MacDonald its similar to 'Moving in Stereo' by the Cars

    Christine Harrelson

+Patrick MacDonald I definitely hear it.

  95. Paul Snider

What's that chiming percussion instrument which opens the tune? Is it a marimba or something? It's got a slight Tom Waits vibe to it.

    christopher crane

go to "song exploder" they breakdown the instrumentation

  96. Dazed Confused

  97. Abdulaziz F.A.

This album is going to be something special in my life

    tootallification

You can thank josh homme for that
