Pop, Iggy - African Man Lyrics

All I want to do, monkey see, monkey do

I eat a monkey for breakfast
I eat a skunk for lunch
I live in the bush
I eat with my fingers
I don't use no knife and fork 'cuz I live in the jungle

I live in the jungle

I know each tigers
I know about lions
I know about the elephants
I know about everything that lives in the jungle

I'm an African Man
I'm an African Man
I'm an African Man and I do what I can
I do what I can

Because I been so strange
In a blue Kenya sky
It's a dirty plague
Go home you dirty white man
Go home you, go home you
Dirty white man
I hate ya, I hate the white man
Wanna go back to the jungle again where I came

What do ya say?

It's good in the jungle
It's good in the jungle
It's good in the jungle

I know lions
I know tigers
I know elephants
I'm an African Man I don't eat with my fork
I use no knife
I eat with my finger

Live in the bush
I live in the bush
I live in the bush and I'm going to stomp like a gorilla
Here I beat my chest

Live in bush

Pretty tiger
Tiger rag
I know lions
Eat with fingers
I live in bush
I live in bush
I live in bush
I live in bush, look up at blue sky
Blue sky of Kenya
Airplane up high
But that airplane is flying too low
That white man's airplane is flying too low
Sometimes things change too slow

Pop, Iggy African Man Comments
  1. J.... D....

Wow, I love Iggy Pop, and I just discovered his worst song. Go ahead and argue that it's a parody. But, no, this shit is wack...

  2. S.... B....

    Live in Bush!!

  3. M.... L....

I think this is a ironic song. Iggy had black people in hes band and that time. I see the song as a song that makes fun of racists.

    M.... L....

i think he wants to get the politniks relaxed

    M.... L....

"i'm not racist I have black friends" loool

  4. R.... K....

i dont care what anyone says i like it

  5. E.... P....

    BLM anthem

  6. r.... d....

and just like that I don't like Iggy Pop anymore

    r.... d....

    What a H0M0!

  7. R.... G....

Ironic that he didn't like techno yet this song was sampled by countless rave acts , irony haha

  8. p.... d....

The song is a royal TURD. Otherwise ruining a pretty good Album. Is there a Michigan connection ? The song crosses the line.

    p.... d....

Our Imperfect world, The lyrics continuing on with paradox?

    p.... d....

Out of a Malcontent, The brain seeks a _patsy_____.Could this be the end of a lyrics (or lack there of?) It would show the defiiciency of a language.

    p.... d....

What line dude? Don't be a sanctimonious crybaby

    p.... d....

p dv you're a malcontent ignorant person, and I'm being polite here. You just don't understand fine music. This is one of the most creative pieces I've ever heard. It's right up there with the most talented, even ELP and Yes. They each have their own style which makes them unique.

    p.... d....

Crossing the line is EXACTLY what makes Iggy Pop great. Did you notice the reference to the dirty white man. Apparently you missed out on another wonderful piece of social sarcasm brought to you courtesy of Jim Osterberg.

  9. R.... R....

Holy Shit...THIS is where the "whooo" sound came from that I heard in Praga Khan's Injected With A Poison and so many other early/mid 90's techno songs that I loved and still listen to today!!!

    R.... R....

More famously used in "Total Confusion" by HHFD (Casper Pound) even before Praga Khan tainted it lol with commercial BS

  10. S.... E....

Used by Prodigy in "Rhythm Of Life".

    S.... E....

    and Warrior's Dance

  11. J.... E....

    Calypso anyone

  12. p.... p....

love iiitttt!!!!!! iggy pop is awesome... the only thing is that he himself is white, but he sings "i hate white men"... 😝😝😝 ironic

    p.... p....

So you can't be white and hate yourself ?

    p.... p....

nah it's in the character of an "African Man" etc. etc. Putting himself in the African's shoes. I think.

  13. T.... M....

Likely the single most racist song ever written by a well-known rock musician - Iggy outta be embarrassed that he wrote this pile of crap.

    T.... M....

Iggy's lineup on New Values was about 50% Black men and Black women who had a fkn sense of humor. I can't find a pic of the back cover but wiki lists the Alfono sisters and several people on horns. Iggy's main bandmates were guitar, bass, and drums --- the other flava was Black people.

    T.... M....

Not another one.....dude, he mentions the dirty white man. I'm convinced people just read the title and say it's racist. It's sarcastic social commentary that apparently goes over some people's heads. Don't be such a left wing loon......

    T.... M....

exactly, the whole thing is social commentary goofing on White ignorance of African culture and vice versa, cultural misunderstandings.@Steve Kramer

    T.... M....

it's like Iggy's take on The Gods Must Be Crazy etc. etc. @Mark Rago

    T.... M....

How about getting to know what parody is, you dumbass? ;)

  14. R.... M....

My philosophy for 2015 is borrowed from that Brit show about that street in Birmingham..Benefit Street ..Zimbabwean fella ºdepression is a white mans problem...black man no time to get depressed..he always looking for something to eatº...fella was bang on!

  15. a.... ....

African is not an origin, it's an occupation!

  16. J.... K....

    love it

  17. G.... ....

"It's good in the jungle", "I know lions, eat with finger, live in bush", What's racist about that??

  18. y.... ....

It's ok EV49. You are obviously an asian lesbian.

  19. y.... ....

I love Iggy and I know this is meant to be harmless goofery but damn, this is RACIST in its ignorance of how a whole continent of people would feel hearing this.

    y.... ....

half the band playing that music is Black people. Iggy hired them to play and experiment. Racist?

    y.... ....

Do u know the word 'parody'? You dumb ass?

    y.... ....

yawlastreet Fuck me GENTLY! Some people take everything so LITERALLY. This is why millennials have no sense of irony or humour.

  20. m.... ....

What a FUN SONG to play in my Oaksterdamn Hotel Lobby!!!
    BONES

  21. E.... B....
