Police, The - Man In A Suitcase Lyrics

I'd invite you back to my place
It's only mine because it holds my suitcase
It looks home to me alright
But it's a hundred miles from yesterday night

Must I be the man in a suitcase
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face
Must I be the man in a suitcase
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face

Another key for my collection
For security I race for my connection
Bird in a flying cage you'll never get to know me well
The world's my oyster a hotel room's a prison cell

Must I be the man in a suitcase
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face
Must I be the man in a suitcase
Is it me, the man with the stranger's face

I'd invite you back to my place
It's only mine because it hold my suitcase
It looks like home to me alright
But it's a hundred miles from yesterday night

[Repeat chorus to fade]

  10. l.... ....

I always think of this song when I hear about someone being found stuffed in a suitcase.

  11. s.... Y....

    nice melodic bass off sting

  12. J.... P....

The dynamic of The Police worked so well because the dynamic didn’t really work well at all. G Sumner took his art way too seriously and often spent long periods up his own arse. A Summers was just plain crazy and S Copeland was a giant cock. Somehow the combination worked perfectly and on this particular track it is laid out for all to see with each protagonist displaying their genius to perfection, the cock on the drums in particular. One of the most underated songs of all time, never mind one of the most underated Police songs. Congratulations to all, a truly stupendus effort.

  13. J.... O....

    Mustabi

  14. g.... H....

The theme song of my late childhood/early adulthood.

  15. d.... l....

Far from flawless takes but that doesn't mean the music's not perfect. The hi-hat at 1:20 for instance. It only makes it human!

  16. L.... A....

    Stewart Copeland is G O D 😍😍😍😍😍

  33. R.... D....

"Must I be a horse in a bookcase?"

Sorry, had to wax Phineas and Ferb for a bit...

    R.... D....

I'd invite you back to my place,
    But I don't think so, 'cause it's really a bookcase;
It looks like home to me alright,
A place for 'stable' reading, by a chair and light...

Must I be the horse in a bookcase?
Is it me, the horse in a tiny space?
Must I be the horse in a bookcase?
Is it me, the horse in a tiny space...

    Another book for my collection,
    So many volumes here for human reflection;
I'm just a statuette, you'll never get to know me at all,
The world's my racetrack, a bookcase my pony stall...

Must I be the horse in a bookcase?
Is it me, the horse in a tiny space?
Must I be the horse in a bookcase?
Is it me, the horse in a tiny space...

I'd invite you back to my place,
    But I don't think so, 'cause it's really a bookcase;
Guess I can't say in my defense,
That I'm endowed with a great deal of horse sense...

Must I be the horse in a bookcase?
Is it me, the horse in a tiny space?
Must I be the horse in a bookcase?
Is it me, the horse in a tiny space...
    (Repeat to fade)

    R.... D....

This is hilarious xD I remember the Horse in the Bookcase from a few episodes

    R.... D....

R Diaz Phineas and Ferb is the shit. I watch it even without my son just to catch references and giggle

  34. H.... V....

    Stewart Copeland, just sayin'.

    H.... V....

+bearmassaro Yes he was, But when I read the book about them, Sting was always on him which caused Andy to sort of lose faith in himself. Stewart broke Sting' s rib in a fight over him. In my opinion, Andy was always pushed in the middle of their fighting bullshit. Which in the end, Broke up a great band.

    H.... V....

Police was a well balanced triangle, until the crystal shattered

    H.... V....

Tea in the Sahara, Burn for you, voices inside my head (strong strong funk) .. so many.. if not all of them. Earth solid beatmaker

    H.... V....

He highly one of my highest influences.

    H.... V....

    stewy totally smashes this.

  35. P.... M....

A great Police album, spoke of times now and then.

  36. T.... ....

"Guess what? I got a Fever!! And the only prescription is" ... MORE SPLASH!!!

    T.... ....

    TheKinoEye wrong song lol

  37. K.... ....

I FOUND IT OH MY GOSH. I hear this song at my hotel and it's so catchy and I didn't know the name and oh my gosh 😢😢😢😢😢😢

    K.... ....

They always play it at my work and I finally found it too!

    K.... ....

+Rob Hanzlik you guys must have rlly cool jobs if they play this song and it's not musak. I used2work in a department store&all they played was musak,but2make it even more unbearable, for the entire year i worked there it was the same damn musak tape playing over&over ad nauseum. One day i had enuff&brought a boom box2work w/a James Brown tape&played it for my customers who were getting makeovers.

  38. K.... K....

One of the original mainstream ska bands.

  39. S.... B....

    Another key for my collection....
    Kein Fußbreit,
    zwischen Nord-
    und Südpol,
    360 Grad rings herum,
    geschaffene Unrecht,
    für die Täter und Tatbeteiligten,
    ohne Komsequenzen bleibt,
    schaffen sie das nächste
    und das nächste
    und das nächste
    und das nächste Unrecht!!!!!
    Der immer gleiche,
    reaktionäre Teufelskreislauf,
    die immer gleiche reaktionäre Idiotie,
auf der immer gleichen reaktionären Schiene!!!.
    Der Freitod und der Tätersuizid,
zu dem die Tatbeteiligten und Täter greifen,
    um sich der Verantwortung,
ihres Tun und Handelns zu entziehen,
    ist, im Gegensatz zur Todesstrafe,
die weltweit, aus dem kollektivem Bewußtsein heraus,
mit Recht, als verwerflich angesehen wird,
    eine gesellschaftlich anerkannte Konvention!!!
    PEACE!!!!!!

    geht's noch?

  40. T.... W....

    1:30 is my faviroute part!

  41. J.... D....

I'm so tired of being a man in a suitcase, I wish I had a place of my own.

    J.... D....

+J. Dovales I've  lived out  of a  duffle bag  myself when travelling and the world's  clunkiest  suitcase !!    I Always imagined myself crossing  vast exotic locales as if  it was filmed in IMAX  the reality  was much grittier  but I still loved  it !  enjoy!!

  42. A.... S....

No, it's Dutch, recorded on Amsterdam Airport. Zenyatta was recorded in Wisseloord studio's The Netherlands.

  43. C.... D....

1:13-1:28 sounds like a german airport intercom!

  44. n.... ....

    kaneki ;_;

  45. J.... M....

regarding the internet ad...paul stanley looks 40

    J.... M....

    More like 70.

  46. e.... ....

Great song, great album still play my vinyl version now and then but always thought the great Stuart Copeland very slightly drops a beat on hi hat at 1:21 - 1:22 ?

    e.... ....

Never noticed that, he actually made a mistake...

    e.... ....

@Garry Kitt And left it in..

    e.... ....

+electrosnerd I don't think this is a mistake. It's a reggae thing to slightly hesitate the hi-hat like that.

    e.... ....

+electrosnerd you're avin a laugh (I just wanted to say that)

    e.... ....

I don't believe that's a mistake - I am sure he meant to put that slight pause in there, it adds a touch of drama and emphasises the swing of the next beat - the sort of thing that gets you up on your toes if you're dancing to it. A subtle & tasteful bit of playing - he very good is our Stuart!

  47. p.... ....

in  response to  TheKenfig   yes  i  agree  it's   a  great   album  and  funny  you  should  mention  how  it's so  similar  in  tone  to  ''Canary  in  a  coalmine''  in  fact  on  a  cassette  i had  of  ZENYATTA   MONDATTA [ back  in  the  days  of  cassettes] the  two  songs  were  exactly  on alternate  sides  of  the  tape!!  this   song  definitely  has   more  of  that  ska  sound  to  it!! great  track  thanx for  the  post!!

  48. J.... K....

I love this old style mastering : low RMS, high dynamics. Magnificent!!!

    J.... K....

Sting really had a great voice back in the day. What does RMS stand btw? I'm guessing something to do with Range Modulation or something like that?

  49. N.... B....

    Most underrated Police song.

    N.... B....

    By NON Police fans ;-)

    N.... B....

    So true

    N.... B....

This and Omegaman are THE songs that to me define the Police sound of that era (1980-82)

    N.... B....

Yeah, this is probably my favorite Police song, all things considered. It was even covered by AFI!

  50. G.... M....

    Love this song.

Hell yeah such a good song!!! One of my favorites by the police!

  60. F.... G....

    u are idiot bro

  61. R.... H....

I'm not hearing the connection to the Beach Boys, but I couldn't agree more about the drum fill at the beginning. Very sick and tasty.

  62. m.... ....

    Best 3 man group Ever(IMO)

  63. t.... ....

I MISS MY FAMILY,IAM STILL KOOL ,IAM SURFING GREAT ,IAM STILL SMART,IAM MISSING ONE THING THE MAIN THING,

  64. K.... ....

Man the bass is so tight, it's insane

  65. n.... ....

Copeland's fill (and his general rebellion) right before Sting comes in with the fun-loving first verse is QUANTUM... By the by, could a vague comparison be made here to the Beach Boys?? YES~ I think this is the closest The Police have ever come to B. Wilson...

  66. M.... ....

    not just thinking ;)

She's the messaging voice on Dutch train stations, and on American stations too if it gets hacked...
Would be fun though, hearing there another to Haarlem in the Bronx on the other side of the world...

  67. g.... ....

    It influenced my life!!

  68. p.... ....

i've been that man in a suitcase great memories and great times! HOPING FOR GREATER THINGS IN THE FUTURE!

  70. s.... ....

    exactly right pal..

  71. M.... M....

I think that woman in the back is speaking Dutch.

  72. s.... ....

The only thing that makes it similar to Canary is it's ska influences. Other than that, they're both pretty unique.

  73. D.... ....

Mate, he's a pirate. Pirates will fuck you up, especially drunk ones.

  74. m.... r....

    still great

  75. f.... ....

  76. f.... ....

can someone ref for these guys (kidney shot)?

  77. j.... ....

The lyrics to every Police Song are mind-blowing, as is the music. There will never be another band like them.

  78. E.... G....

hey thats not something u would say to a kid huh! well technically now a teenager but nevermind that

  79. x.... ....

AFI's cover of this song brought me here. (old AFI)

  80. E.... G....

i like this song bcuz its awsome nuff said lol

  81. S.... T....

After listening to the "live" versions of this very track (perhaps the boys were on coke or crystal, but either way....) this studio version sounds like drooling on the couch.... alone.... watching Scooby Doo, et. al...... BUT! Still, this is lightyears ahead of anything else (aside from the Ramones during the 70's)... xoxoxoxox

  82. E.... G....

idk kathy people just want thumbs up cawthy07

  83. E.... G....

I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! thumbs up if u do too.

  84. W.... B....

    Zenyatta's my fav Police album.

"The whole world's my oyster, my hotel room's a prison cell." --greatest line about being rock star ever. I can totally see why Sting eventually ended The Police. He felt like it was a golden cage.

  85. M.... C....

I think this album is mind-bottling! Like when all your musical thoughts get caught in a bottle!!

  86. I.... ....

This album is mind-blowing, and life changing.

  87. h.... ....

If there is a God; he is in this band.

  88. B.... 1....
