Pogues, The - House Of The Gods Lyrics

Finally found a place they could never reach
Sipping singha beer on Pattaya Beach
Singha beer don't ask no questions
Singha beer don't tell no lies
Singha beer don't ask no questions
Singha beer don't tell no lies

There's a guy next to me won't tell me his name
Buy's me mekong whiskey just the same
Singha beer don't ask no questions
Singha beer don't tell no lies
Singha beer don't ask no questions
Singha beer don't tell no lies

I'm just a wally
Hanging out on Pattaya Beach
I'm just a wally
Hanging out on Pattaya Beach

Met a girl said she's really going to blow my mind
She say's she don't mean sex and I say alright
Turns out she's a bloke, tries to give me head
I have to run out screaming to the street instead
She's just a wally
Hanging out on Pattaya Beach
I'm just a wally
Hanging out on Pattaya Beach

Singha beer don't ask no questions
Singha beer don't tell no lies...

In the house of the gods
Where no mongrels preach
I watched the sun going down
On Pattaya Beach

I'm just a wally
Hanging out on Pattaya Beach
I'm just a wally
Hanging out on Pattaya Beach

Pogues, The House Of The Gods Comments
  1. A.... B....

Classic Pogues. You can't understand much of what MacGowan's singing, but this song - like many of their others - had me from the start. Heard it on the way back from a gig in Germany, where I'm proud to say Irish music has a massive following :-)

Shane is up there with Lennon/McCartney.

Was living in Thailand when this CD came out. If i was sitting around having a beer my 5 year old son would come up to me sing "Daddy! Singha beer don't tell no lies".

terry blake I owned this CD when I was a Navy MP in Yokosuka Japan in 1991. One night I rode along with our dispatcher in his Toyota Skyline and I put this CD in his car stereo . We jammed out as we drove around the the area of Yokosuka and Yokohama . I visited Thailand a couple of years later. This song was on my mind when I was there . I didn't pay for girls , I just ate Thai food and drank Singha Beer. I also visited Phuket. Tiger Beer was the standard in Singapore. Australia is a different story. LOL !

Buy's me mekong whiskey just the same

Singha beer don't tell no lies

  15. E.... R....

Spent the whole of 1990 thinking the chorus was "Sea of green don't ask no questions, etc"  Mind you, I spent the whole of 1990 so drunk that I didn't think to look at the lyrics on the inner sleeve.  I'm sober (ish) now & have finally seen my error.

  16. E.... C....

Faustino is a nice one, but overpriced in the UK. Number one is my fave.

  17. S.... O....

Chang is fucking dangerous. SangSom and coke is your man, you know what you're getting.

  18. S.... O....

A Grolsch with the thick glass bottle and ceramic lid, just on the verge of turning to ice.

  19. C.... F....

    Wat a place :)

  20. J.... L....

Great song and I love the pogues and this album. Not sure why it is so much about Thailand and that area. There is really nothing special about. Pattaya beach sucks. Anyway, good stuff.

  21. L.... R....

@SIFLandOLLYshow I would think it more plausibel if the"ladyboy" ran away after seeing Shanes toothy smile.

  22. M.... ....

    im a wally! :D

    M.... ....

what exactly is a "wally" may I ask?

    M.... ....

    dammbleth2 it’s a British term - means a fool

  23. v.... ....

@TryingIsGood That's great! Just as the first few notes were played, I said "Hey...Beach Boys...Pet Sounds." Good call!

  24. S.... ....

@Irishqueen88 It´s on The Crock Of Gold. But that´s The Popes, no more The Pogues.

  25. S.... ....

@ConnDevi88 That´s crazy, I heared it with 3 or 4 years always with my aunt! When the CD started with Sunny Side Of The Street I was always happy.

  26. R.... D....

    good knowledge

  27. n.... ....

This was in response to Irishqueen88 but seems to have been misposted...

  28. n.... ....

It's on "The Crock Of Gold" by Shane MacGowan & The Popes - it is NOT, as stated below on "Peace & Love". It was not a Pogues song, though it is a great song. The melody was nicked from the dub band Culture, as evidenced on the Pogues boxset and the song "Pinned Down / I'm Alone In The Wilderness". Plenty for you to go on with there!

    n.... ....

    yer just a wally

  29. L.... C....

    thank you

  30. C.... F....

if only i was lying on pattaya beach with a singha right now

  31. L.... C....

    what album B&I Ferry on?

  32. B.... F....

Fine tune, I definetly love Pogues. They along with other bands like Flogging Molly really manage to give me an Irish feeling. :D

  33. W.... ....

Excellent! Now one of my new top 3 Pogues songs. :) Like Springsteen, I've never even heard this before.

    W.... ....

    Weepyun my favourite 😊
