Pogues, The - Five Green Queens And Jean Lyrics

I recall the moment
Before it slipped away
When 5 green queens
On a black bin bag
Meant all the world to me

And I recall the moment
More distant than it seems
When 5 green queens
On a black bin bag
Meant all the world to me

And I recall the moment
Much closer than it seems
When 5 green queens
On a black bin bag
Meant all the world to me

And I recall the moment
Before it slipped away
When 5 green queens
On a black bin bag
Meant all the world to me

5 green queens and Jean

I love this album (apart from the risible Terry Woods song: "6 to go") - am I alone in thinking this or shall I keep taking the medication? Sad to think this was the last album with MacGowan - they were barely together 9 years (1982-1991) and yet did far more than similar bands who've been around for decades: The Saw doctors, The Levellers, Hothouse flowers etc.

Like, when I was a kid, growing up on the streets of Mexico city, there was a little girl whose mother owned the store at the corner near my house, she was there helping, she was beautiful, me having a peso in my pocket, and going to the store to buy my mangoe with chili and lemon, and she would serve it to me, ...my day was complete, that's what this song is about, when you are young and don't have the existential questions adults have.

Got a bit of a Tejano music vibe with that accordion. Nice unexpected touch.

The melody reminds me of the Popeye theme song and Thrasher from Neil Young...

Good stuff. It reminds me of the simplicity/carefreeness of having nothing and being happy.

Shane Mc Cann , well, I recall a moment when a peso in my pocket and the little girl at the corner grocery store meant all the world to me.
