Poets Of The Fall - Choir Of Cicadas Lyrics

It's the season of dust trailing old pick up trucks
Seashells washed ashore down by the docks
So baby pull on your blue jeans turn the radio loud
Don't wait for the hour to give birth to doubt

In the peak harvest of snakebites and wasted hindsight
When trivial truths sit next to the taillights
When fenders of chrome they rattle and hum
All carved in the shape of freedom

Those flea market stalls in the bone dry noon
Despite pretty signs, look cursed and marooned
And trumpet notes wailing from the candy store
Like a work of art of uneasy rapport

The wreckage, the blunder, the tarot read
In the heat blurry air we're down in the field
Where to the choir of cicadas' jubilee
Among the clouds we once fell asleep

The sirens of the shipyard by those derelict whales
Old mothers singing rusty old tales
Like revving engines keening sky high
Yet theirs is never a war cry

So I'll be your lover now, brazen and bright
Like the flare of a match you struck in the night
Though what does a stray know 'bout holy and true
But I'll always come to your rescue

Oh lord won't you hear your children cry
Singing their praise and their hallelujahs
I have no more words to describe
An empty sky of hollow blue, yeah
So where is my lover, my firelight
The line on the edge of truth and rumour
We took our vows in the heart of the night
We were brazen and bright, when we were brazen and bright

Poets Of The Fall Choir Of Cicadas Comments

It's been 2 years that I've just discover this fantastic band ... I always enjoy their songs but this is just different... from the first second that it start to play ... I got some strange feeling... I can't just clearly say what it is but I can say that I was bit scared ... I still don't know why it is like this to me ....

That thing you don't want it to happen, but it eventually does. And, surprisingly, this fact liberates you.

Kaunista. Erityisesti tuo urkuosuus osuu ja uppoaa. Lokakuun pimeä ja lähestyvä... keinuttaa toivon ja epätoivon lauttaa Gangesin virrassa.

  6. ShadowKayvaan

Beautiful melody, beautiful lyrics. Was the one song I missed to hear at the show you guys did in Oslo this year. But don't let that fool you; the show was fantastic!

  7. Raul K

If beautiful was a song, this is exactly how it would sound.

    TRUE POETS <3

This is in many ways a superb example of just what I love about Poets Of The Fall... The combination of lyrical imagery, musical tone, and vocal execution that perfectly transmits a feeling, a fantasy, without ever quite feeling the need to come out and say it explicitly.

To me atleast, this song manages to be pure joy, comfy nostalgia, and transcendent hope, all running at a heartbreaking intensity. Such a good song.

  10. Piero Minaya Rojas

This album was a step up from their previous one, I like it.

There is no doubt that PotF have mellowed with each album. That's not a criticism but it is a fact. Their first ST album was immense. I always find they have a gem on each release but they have evolved... to a more tranquil place.

  13. Luis Garcia

This sounds like a national anthem for love.

  14. Jane A

Very... unusual song, I must say. Has the air of 'hippie 60s'... and at the same time - of earlier years when travelling circuses and carnivals came to towns (you know, a vibe of 'Twilight theatre').
    But undoubtedly great!😊

  15. S Chakraborty

    sound of peace.

    This song is absolutely gorgeous

  18. Ironeagle 777

interestingly enough, male cicadas actually do sing to attract a mate!

favourite moment: from 0:00 to 5:04

  20. Secret of Dandelion

This would make such a cute wedding song ._.

  21. Victor Shopov

My favorite of the album! From the first moment I heard this song I knew it was my favorite, just the atmosphere, the kinda somber tone, the lyrics... it makes my heart swell.

  22. Omanisat

This is a strange one, almost has a country/western vibe to it. Can't really say it does much for me.

  23. Sreenivas N

    Amazing music, POTF hats off..

  24. DarKNesS7026

Truth be told, I didn't like this track at first, but after listening to it for a few more times, it now haunts me and is probably my favorite song off the album!
There's always a couple of tracks I don't like from POTF albums, like "Hounds to Hamartia" and "Rebirth" from Jealous Gods, or "Once Upon a Playground Rainy" from Clearview and in this one I didn't like "In a Perfect World". And I really tried listening many times, I just can't seem to like these...
I thought I didn't like "Choir of Cicadas" either, good thing I gave it a second chance like always! It's got this weird nostalgic vibe that just really gets to me.

    Hammad Khan

I fell in love with "Rebirth" the first time i heard it.

After listening to the whole album I think either this song or False Kings is my favorite but they're all incredible. Poets of the Fall has created another masterpiece.

    Teresita Duarte
