Poco - Ride The Country Lyrics

In she comes a-ridin',
On a mornin' sunrise
I am left to believing
All that is standing before my eyes
And I wonder
Would the sun have shown
Ever so brightly alone

We been livin' all of our lives
On the other side of the hill
Drifting on a golden wing, and I can't wait
To hear the smile
She can sing
Take me through the day
Take my breath away

And we ride the countryside
High and wide, and she brings
Crackers, cheese and wine
Oh, they're gonna bust my side
And she's got strawberries
Comin' by the dozen
Brown sugar and sweet cream
Set my mouth a-buzzin'

Take my hand and run
Take me down to the river blue
Throw a whisper to the wind that
All you're sayin' is true
Ride the countryside
Take me high and wide

This song & Angel prob my 2 favorite Cotton songs As another fan said Rusty’s steel guitar in background is unparalleled IMO Husband Kevin & I will still drive up to 4 hrs to see them We like all incarnations of the band & how many bands 50 yrs old can put out an LP like All Fired Up.

    k.... m....

I agree entirely Kimberly. They are the best. I flew from Scotland to see them in Stuart, Florida. Of all the places I could have chosen to stay, Rusty, Jack & co were staying at the same hotel. Spent great times talking with them. I may even do it again! Colin Watt

  19. H.... S....

    i LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  20. R.... ....

Love Poco, but I somehow missed this song back when It was released on A Good Feeling To Know album. I found it here about 2 years ago, and it's my favorite Poco song now. Thanks for uploading this. What a band!

  21. H.... S....

Such great Music-one of my favourite bands!!!!!

  22. R.... L....

    top five albums ever

  23. l.... ....

Some songs must be played at 9+. This is one that the louder it is, the better it is. 5 minute mark starts the dash for the finish.

    l.... ....

Love your analogy to the dash for the finish-----so true!!

  24. G.... C....

This whole album is a fabulous experience....it never fails to warm and rock my soul

  25. v.... ....

i agree with eddie...the pedal steel is haunting!!!

    v.... ....

Rusty, the king of the steel guitar!

  26. L.... ....

I spent a lot of evenings listening to this wishing for that girl. That girl who wasn't twisted off by disco. One day I found her. It was a fight but she came around because I cared. We've been married for 40 years. Thanks Poco and Gram.

    L.... ....

    That is amazing!

  27. e.... p....

Beautiful steel by Rusty Young..sends chills

  28. J.... N....

As much as I respect and love Richie and Timmy, the guitar/steel interplay between Paul Cotton and Rusty Young will always be the signature Poco sound to me. The Legend album was a tour de force.

    J.... N....

    Agree about Paul and Rusty.
    But, Timmy's voice was unique.
For me, it will always be the indigenous factor in the "sound" of Poco .
    Such a great band.
    Crazy Eyes was simply perfection.

    J.... N....

But never forget Richie's rhythm guitar. Never.

  29. J.... N....

"All Fired Up" is the latest and apparently last Poco studio album. Rusty Young, last of the original 5, announced the retirement of the Poco brand. Last shows in Feb 2014. If you haven't seen them live, well you missed out big time.

    J.... N....

No Jeff! The Poco Brand has not retired! I just saw Poco Dec. 30, 2017 at the Franklin Theater in Franklin TN.. IT WAS AWESOME!!!! Also Rusty has a new solo albun (2017) titled Waitin' for the Sun.

    J.... N....

Fortunately for us Rusty got bored pretty quick with retirement & they are still at it Plus Rusty’s solo LP Waitin for the Sun May as well be a Poco LP with all the guest players on it Check it out

    J.... N....

Mark Saw them at Franklin as well my friend Got to meet George Grantham! it was too cool when Rusty brought George up for a Good Feelin to Know

  30. d.... d....

True Poco fans have loved the band through all of its changes and permutations. Each change brought a texture and flavor to the band's history. Their largest period of commercial success was without Timmy and Richie. The band's last few new albums have been outstanding! Running Horse is a strong album. Give it a listen.

  31. H.... S....

Oh, I love this song. I remember the good old days, I'm so moved by this.......

  32. S.... F....

SInger sounds so much like Neil Young ...

    S.... F....

    Sounds nothing like Neil Young.

    S.... F....

    Paul Cotton

  33. A.... M....

Poco is one of the original bands that brought electric country to our turntables.

    A.... M....

absolutely correct Albert A unique truly original American band To my knowledge all past and present members still with us tho George Had a serious health issue a while back and I understand R Meissner not doing well God bless them all

  34. b.... ....

I'm a big Poco fan. This song is cool to me for so many reasons. In my opinion, it is the finest "marriage" of pedal steel with regular electric guitar, ever. It's also Poco's Romeo and Juliet/McCoy v Hatfields song. The lead takes us from trotting to running. It's so visceral. The melody is great, the performance is fine. What's not to like?

  35. b.... ....

There are many Poco fans out there, but the band was never the same without Timothy B.Schmit--and Richie Furay. If you really loves early Poco, you might say Randy Meisner and Jim Messina, but I loved the rockier sound Paul Cotton brang--maybe Jim and Paul could have shared lead guitar here and there, but then Loggins&Messina never would have existed! Still, Poco has always been one of my favorite bands!! Sincerely, BobbyK

Thuis song and the picture of the cover, cannot be on Y.T. enough. Thanks
