Poco - Heart Of The Night Lyrics
In the heart of the night
In the cool southern rain
There's a full moon in sight
Shining down on the Pontchartrain
Just like she used to do
She's so full of surprises
She reminds me of you
In the heart of the night
In the heart of the night
In the heart of the night
Oh, whoa, down in New Orleans
There's a night bird singing
Right on through till the dawn
With people carrying on
It's been so long waiting
Just to be here again
Anticipating
All the time I could spend
In the heart of the night
In the heart of the night
In the heart of the night
And I trust in your love never falling down
I trust in your love
Just like I do in this town
Whoa, never falling down
Whoa, never falling down
In the heart of the night
In the cool fallin' rain
There's a full moon in sight
Shining down on the Pontchartrain
And the river she rises
Just like she used to do
She's so full of surprises
Oh, momma, she reminds me of you
Right here, in the heart of the night
In the heart of the night
In the heart of the night
Down in New Orleans
And I'm so glad to be back in New Orleans
Please don't wake me, don't shake me
If it's only, if it's only just a dream
It's the only place I can face that feels so right
Below that Dixie moon and loving you
In the heart of the night

music that had meaning !!!
GUY'S THIS MAKE ME WANT TO CURL UP WITH A TRUE MAN..🌹 LOVE THIS . LISTENING 2020❤🎆❤
Sounds like Glenn Frey or an Eagles song
Two of the former members of Poco, Randy Meisner and Timoth B Schmidt went on to become members of the Eagles for a period of time, so there was definitely some influence into the Eagles' sound in this song.
This song is a true gem that is timeless
Another grate song
That sax, though ❤️
One of my all time best songs to listen to. so relaxing
Was coming home from the store and this came on xm radio. I probably havent heard it in over 30 yrs. Great song.
SONGS LIKE THIS!
I was 20 yrs old when this great song came out in 1978. They don't make great music like this anymore. I am 61 and still listen to it in 2019.
Country Rock, yeah I had forgotten this song. Good to hear it again.

For Craig. Late summer/early fall of “79. Thanks for the very brief , but very fun time. But make no mistake, you’re still a
pompous ass.
Here is a bit of trivia for this great song - the horse on the Poco Legend album cover was designed by Saturday Night Live comedy star Phil Hartman - a man later murdered by his psycho wife. I love this song. And I miss the comedy of Phil Hartman.
Best Damn song ever❤ I'm in love with it
They don't make em like this anymore
i got this album when i was so young. i never knew until this very year that Phil Hartman was the one who did the artwork for the cover. i want that on my wall.
Kathleen Marsha, god I miss you.
MUSIC WITH A MAGICIAN'S VOICE BRINGING TO MIND ALCHEMY...CONSCIOUSNESS EXPANDING.
Love Poco
Wow what a great song & the entire album is great. Rock On
I love the distortion on the guitar. Yes, I remember hearing this on the radio waiting in line at a gas station. Good times and bad.
...Not the "Juice Newton Song"... (but Just as Good!!!)...
What an easy listening tune just love it.
Wish music was made like this again....this never gets old.....
It's my alltime favourite song, steel guitar opening, the sax etc. The live version on dvd (Pickin' up the pieces) has the extra bonus of a brilliant ending by Rusty on steelguitar, gives me the shivers just writing about it!
First time I ever heard this song was one summer night with a girl that I was head over heels for. She came to spend the summer with an aunt because at the time her parents were going thru a divorce and I became friends with her. Though I know she never felt the same way I will always remember those summer nights sitting in my car and talking for hours sharing our thoughts. Many years later she was murdered in a most terrible way and I was just in shock when I heard what happened. to her. Whenever I hear this song she is in my thoughts and memories where she will forever live. . R.I.P Mary Ann
Sad no one makes music like this anymore. It makes me miss my hometown and this song makes me feel it even more.
Comedian Phil Hartman designed the cover of this album believe it or not!! RIP Phil.
... But we have no control of our heart ❤️ Or someone else’s heart ❤️ 🤷🏻♀️
Is this an alto sax in this song?
Phil Hartman of Saturday night live Did the artwork for this album I just watched o show about him
There was a girl that carried the album in school. And art class someone drew a picture of the album.
❤❤❤❤
Some really fine things can happen late in the heart of the night, in the cool summer rain , way down in New Orleans...whooo wheeee Hot Damn and thank you Mam!
take me home mountain mama :/
The artwork was crested by SNL' s Phil Hartman...Yes...the late Phil Hartman.
Reverb on the vocal much?🤣
This song is simply beautiful. And, if you love New Orleans, as I do, it is even better.
love this song
Does anybody remember Ponchartrain amusement park, Elysian Fields and lakeshore drive?
THEY DO SOUND LIKE THEM I MISS THE 70s SOOOOO BAAAD When music was REAL,, NOT CANED, DUNG LIKE MOST OF TODAYS LOL
No me canso de escuchar ésta hermosa canción.....
This is their greatest song ever Rock On
the worst bubblegum 70's song marketed at pre-teen "horsey" girls. Pure trash.
...Knocking on the door of 40 and starting to feel like i'm turning into my parents. I've always loved older music but now that i'm just loving on the '70s soft rock, or whatever the hell you call this, i just can't get enough. I drive a crown victoria and kinda dress like my dad too, and i'm ok with all of it really. I enjoy this stuff because i wish i'd been young back then as it was a much better time in history, despite all the bad. It's not gotten better since.
How the F**k could 792 idiots not like this?
It's like discovering a new Eagles band.
Time traveling right now... those were the nights. The heart of the night what agood time..
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Love it!!!!!
Oh wow...this album takes me back to the late "60"s when they debuted at The Troubadour in West Hollywood...grat show....
Way to go Jack Sundrud! From your hometown fans in Northern Minnesota. Don't be a stranger.
Down in New Orleans.
For me, what's so great about this song is the ability to feel better, and even PICTURE yourself amongst a random get-together, party, or after-work/Friday evening impromptu "Hey, let's go have a couple of drinks," and have it turn into something magical - just because of the setting and the company.
Song reminds of when i was living in Biloxi/Keesler AFB, MS. Drive by the beach /Gulf of Mexico just about every day. Nice view.
Wrong word, “underrated”. They have never been underrated by those of us who have known their music since it began. Perhaps under appreciated is a better word here. It’s unfortunate how many people have never heard of them. The music business is a crazy business.
the horse cover of this album was painted by the late comedian Phil Hartman of SNL fame . He did a couple of other famous album covers, too
Just dont make music like the 70s heres one of them songs n band that proves that
Poco was the favorite band of me and my friends in HS, in a small NJ town named Metuchen.
We saw them countless times. Fillmore East.....Schaefer Music Festival in Central Park, NYC....my college in NJ (FDU).....Jadwin gym at Princeton Univ., etc.
Some of their early material sounds very dated now, but at the time, it sounded great. This album was kind of their 2nd incarnation (no Richie Furay, the original lead singer.) A departure from their early, country-rock leanings, this was soft-rock and their greatest commercial success. Charted 2, maybe 3 singles.
Nothing like the early albums, which oozed country, petal-steel guitars, and tight harmonies. Give a listen to their 1st album, "Pickin' Up the Pieces." Some of it is great stuff and some not so great. Best is the instrumental, "Grand Junction, Make Me A Smile" and the title cut.
781 dumb people!
Poco great 1970s
Music in the heart of the Night an I'm loving the sound's of the cool falling Rain's!!
ah yes poco the kid that was saved by jojo
Listening 2019... come on guys 👍👍👍👍❤❤❤ the best classic rock
Loving the 70's and early 80's💜 brings me back to a more innocent and sweet time. The older I get, the more it seems as though the world gets more jaded. And the music just keeps getting WORSE lol what happened to true talent, instead of auto tune?!
"The cover art for Legend was done by Phil Hartman, the brother of Poco manager John Hartmann; Phil Hartman worked as a graphic designer creating album covers for his brother's clients (including America) while attempting to break out as a comic"... from Wikipedia
The great comedian Phil Hartman designed the album cover! Trivia!!
Took 3 of my daughters ( all adults ) to see Poco a couple of years ago. It was incredible. One of my best concert memories.
Just in lover with this band. After having rap and hip hop shoved down my throat, I find this music is an oasis in a freaking crazy world.
It is so amazing the things we can enjoy at the price of our privacy
Excellent song.
Very cool group! They had Randy Meisner and Timothy Schmidt!
... The Earth is a flat plaine ..... 😳😁🙋🏻♀️💕✝️ ... I love you. 👫 I do not know what to do. 🤦🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️👫✝️🤗💙
beam me back Scotty.
I loved this song when it came out, and I still love it. So much good mysic in the late seventies. Great time to be a kid.
Thanks araki
Phil Hartman graphics, I think.
A classic example of country rock or soft rock. I've never been to NO but this song creates a such a strong sense of belonging and longing that it is one of my favorite 'love' songs.
Great fuckin tunes man
It takes me back to 1975. Wow. What a trip. It's like a flashback. It is a flashback. Music at one time was great.
Fond memories in the 80s being in my 20s 😍
😍😍😍😍😍
Never heard this song before and only being 20 years old I’m glad I have found it young. Such an awesome song.
This is what you call talent! Not like the meaningless garbage that's out there today! Timeless!
I completely agree with you. Can't even turn the radio on these days without hearing utter rubbish coming out of the speakers. I'd do anything to go back to good times such as the likes of this good old song :-)
I miss the good old days of music
I love this band!

Poco
"Heart Of The Night,
#20, 1979.
I've LOVED Poco since their first album, and all the way through ALL of their changes. Saw them in Boulder in '71. (They opened for... It's A Beautiful Day... Are you kidding me?!)
Great anecdote. I have been into Poco since "Pickin' Up The Pieces."
I saw them several times at The Fillmore East in NYC back in the early '70s. Also, I saw "It's A Beautiful Day" there, too.
It was a great era for music, maybe the best.
That horn solo though!
... 😳 I can listen to this song every day of my hopefully short life. 🤗🙋🏻♀️💕😉😢👍🍺🍗🍷
o I miss the 70s
Go Rebs!!
One of my favorite songs
💖💖💖💖💖
A cover designed by the late comedian/graphic artist Phil Hartman.
Damn sure was..What a messed up death he had thanks his messed up wife
1979, I was a Marine stationed in Okinawa,Japan and this song was playing a lot especially at the USO and the bars out in town. To be that young again. Wo! Its hard to believe 40 years have passed that fast.
DOES ANYONE ELSE HER THE EAGLES?
this song reminds me of my nephew mentioning ponchatrain when i was 17. its a crying shame some kids dont appreciate old songs. it breaks my heart. someday I hope it all comes back. we need 2 love one another, no matter what. LEARN
i love this song and a lot of others
Love this song - plus the LP cover art!
I love Poco! I just saw them in concert in Arlington, TX. This song is so beautiful!
Great memories. Thank you Poco.
Just saw Poco at the Pacific Amphitheatre, Rusty Young was the only original, still great, missed Paul Cotton though.
