P.M. Dawn - Downtown Venus Lyrics
I'm Downtown Venus, and I'm trying to be by myself.....myself
Habitual dreamers, and no one dreams enough to get me home
I'm Downtown Venus, and they're trying to devine my self...my self (and they keep saying)
[Chorus:]
yeah.....you would be into you but you don't know what you're like.
I'm Downtown Venus, and it's alright to kiss my life...my life
I got misdemeanors, mounting up for sleeping on the "nows"
I'm Downtown Venus, and I can't get behind my worth...my worth (but they keep saying)
[Chorus]
I'm downtown Venus, where simplicity is always hurt....always hurt
I can't stop screamin', 'cause I'm failing to entertain all of my selves
I could be into me but....I don't know what I'm like
Yeah...I could be into me but...I don't know what I'm like...

P.M. Dawn Downtown Venus Comments
Great song and guitar solo.
edgy, ethereal sounds, retro music. sound a lot like the 5 stairsteps.
I love this album.
always was my favorite P.M. Dawn track,
miss me with that spandau ballet nonsense this is the balm!
Great track great memories.😄
Hip-hop legends. PM Dawn. Prince Be you are truly missed homie. RIP.
I was a huge fan of PM Dawn for 20 years. I finally got the unbelievable chance to record with Cameron Greider, Prince Be's guitarist, bass player, and co-writer for the last three PM Dawn records. Listen here:

criminally underrated..... love this band so much
Venus flows...
💕 💕 💕
this man was blind at this point. suffering from diabetes, and later it claimed him, so sad. rip Prince be. you were truly a genius.
Really? Wow.
As a kid I was surprised to see a big black guy, not on the sidelines like with coolio or whatever but presenting the whole show in POP CULTURE, and have the guts in a world massively commodifying, objectifying and mostly white and obviously thin or jacked.
But fuck. You wouldn't ve thought he was that sick.
I know he got sick and passed.
Rare vice for what usually takes a pop star.
No offense intended. Was kid brain thoughts btw. And was and am a fan still..
Sad tho.
Oh and pop culture in caps meaning not rap, i love that he tried to fuck with it. A big black guy don't know how comfortable he felt but he still did shit for plus peeps and peeps of colour. Go man!
Thought about that post, was drunk. The guy died losing senses and limbs at a time. I dunno. Maybe I should take back what I said about plus ppl. This is gonna take a bit of time to think thru
Cool sampling of Deep Purple's 1968 hit "Hush".
Oh fo real?! Rad!
Sorry but I have to say the girl at 1:33 is insanely attractive! Love this song too!
Hmmmn, super interesting..
I didn't fuck with pm dawn much.. But when this dropped in 95 ... I caught It on BET When It was channel 43 In Brooklyn... I fell In love with this cut. They went a new direction and I was feeling, the baseline rifts. The lyrics are also powerful. A lot of people need to take a trip to downtown Venus.
Someone once told me that I looked like. Prince B. I use to get mad about it,now I embrace it. Especially the words to this song. In the here and now?......It's true. The name of this group is my initials. P.M. Middle name, D! :)!!!! R.I.P. Prince B!
I know what you mean tho.
Damn prince be had his leg amputated because of diabetes in case u did not know he's probably Ben sick for a long time I guess he got a call from the man upstairs saying I'm taking u to the kingdom where U will never be sick again
No idea there was a video for this track, so awesome!
I was able to get a promo vhs video single about 10 years ago.
I think this was their last big-ish hit anywhere really.
'Gotta Be... Movin' On Up' was a top 20 hit in Australia in 1998.
I Had No Right was a top 50 hit at around the same time in the US.
PM Dawn - Attrell - Peace Be. Your Music and Soul has guided and helped me through... I LOVE YOU Thankyou forever
Descanse em paz Prince Be
For me was one of the best hip hop-pop-rap-new wave---groups of the 90's...
romeo garcia Agreed. What hip-hop SHOULD sound like!
Mine as well. It reminds me of my school days during 90's. I used to enjoy this track quite often.
My favourite group of all time !
nostalgia 1995
Rip Prince Be
RIP, another Prince gone
R.I.P. Prince Be
Prince Be R.I.P.
Very underrated
This shit slap.😄😄😄
classic
sooo underrated
How wasn't this a hit?
It was !
SuperRahul73 It wasn’t
@colemann76 I'd heard of it on the BBC's Multitrack Chart toppers show sometime in the nineties. It was also a hit on Billboard. Wish I could find you more sources, but the chart positions are listed on their wiki page.
tanya kumar Just looked it up. Reached number 48 in USA and 73 in Australia so it was a minor hit
Shit as often as it was on the top 10 shows I thought it reached it.
If I can remember this it must've been a hit. I also have always thought a lot about the lyrics. They deserve some applause for some of the shit it was competing with, also it was back when music existed and was mostly awesome.
"You could be into you but you don't know what you're like... " It made my kid brain wanna think.
Pm Dawn as a music act wasn't singularly known for for anything else in pop culture, well not even for this. I remember writing it down so I wouldn't forget.
Haven't thought of this song in a decade at least and I still like it. 🙂
Love the chugga chugga "HUSH" rhythm!
Applause for the ability to describe the music (or section of) so well in such few words. I really like ur style as well. Write much?
I could be into me, but I don't know what I'm like. Love the lyrics.

this song is way too awesome for this sub-par video
charlotia Hah... I agree with you. I actually produced this video, right out if college. I was in sooo over my head and knew very little about set design and the CGI.
Luckily, we (I) survived and was fortunate enough to go on to produce some very iconic music videos, in the years after this.
But you’re right, this is fairly sub-par...
i always thought this deserved better at radio
nossa via muito esse clip na antiga mtv tempo de muita musica boa
PM DAW MUITO BOM
Luv this Song. Thx!
