Plant, Robert - Polly Come Home Lyrics

If the wild bird could speak
She'd tell of places you had been
She's been in my dreams
And she knows all the ways of the wind

[Chorus:]
Polly, come home again
Spread your wings to the wind
I felt much of the pain
As it begins

Dreams cover much time
Still they leave blind
The will to begin
I searched for you there
And now look for you from within

[Chorus]

This album sounds so good, T Bone Burnett is truly a great producer.

  14. b.... r....

Cool nice song. But I seriously despise that so-called Christians sucker here. Thumbs Down

  15. M.... E....

when I hear this haunting ballad I think of the parents of lost children due to drugs or runaways children please call if you can:t come home

  16. J.... H....

Recently while driving along the Natchez Trace on the Mississippi Alabama border my girlfriend and I came upon a beautiful large dog, lost, alone, hungry in the freezing 10 degree weather. A Great Pyrenees dog. Gene Clark's version of this song was on our minds and we now have a subliminally poetic and beautiful dog, a girl. The lyrics fit and she's now in her new home. Her name is Polly.

    J.... H....

Thank you for sharing this-- it's made my morning!

  17. B.... ....

Deep and intensely tuned, somewhere in between gene's song and "don't give up" by gabriel

  19. b.... ....

Wow... a lot of Zep Plant on this one.

  20. J.... L....

  22. 2.... ....

Stands alongside the Gene Clark original, which is high praise

  23. l.... ....

My dad always played this for me to fall asleep to when I was younger. Till this day it holds a special place in my heart

  24. M.... D....

A beautiful song that makes one weep with longing for a missing partner

  25. N.... U....

This might be the most beautiful recording I have ever heard.

  26. A.... D....

The album that made me discover Gene Clarks genius. This and Through The Morning Through The Night were the absolute stand outs for me from this album, rendered beautifully by Plant and Krauss. Brilliant artists interpreting another brilliant artist, it doesn't get any better.

  27. T.... K....

This song is like an opate induced
    coma

  28. R.... T....

Perfect song, it´s so hypnotic, relax and beautiful. I love Robert Plant <3

  29. V.... F....

Robert Plant has sure changed since Led Zeppelin!! But he has still got it. Years have changed a lot of artists!!

  30. B.... C....

This is my favorite tune off the album !

  31. R.... T....

one of the best songs ever made in my eyes its got everything musical perfection

  32. D.... P....

    beautiful and haunting

  33. L.... M....

I like to go back to this album, this magical climates.. This magical piece, lirics always forces me to reflect on the things around me.."Dreams cover much time,Still they leave blind,The will to begin, I searched for you there, And now look for you from within.." Robert..his music.. is for me master...

    L.... M....

Lukasz Mazurek Robert Plant did a great job, but the song was first written and sung by Gene Clark, on an album with Doug Dillard.

  34. 7.... ....

A tremendous tune from the album (a nice rendition of the Gene Clark original) - and a terrific album indeed.

  35. M.... O....

Excellent interpretation of Gene Clark's original. Very stark and poignant. Beautiful.

  36. L.... J....

This is one of my most favorite song's with these two artist's!!!
    Texas Lady xoxo

  37. I.... M....

  38. p.... c....

such a wonderfully sensual version....well ''Planted''!!!

  39. E.... M....

    Awesome 🙌🏽

  40. M.... G....

To me this is the best slower beat song on the album. I love to do my trek's up the mountains with this. Blows me away

  41. M.... S....

His voice gave me goosebumps at the start. SHIT!!!!

  42. M.... D....

They make this song truly, beautifully haunting.

  43. C.... ....

Love this version. It has everything music and lyrics have to offer to mankind. Cheers to Robert Plant and Alison Krauss for taking this stellar tune by Gene Clark

  44. M.... P....

Excellent blend of musical sophistication, beautiful melodic and harmonic lines and trance - inducing singing. The Plant + Krauss combo is the best version.

  45. L.... T....

    original version is better...

    L.... T....

    no it don't

    L.... T....

+SPARKY M It sure is. The version of the Dillard & Clark Band is way better than this one. It's a 45 r.p.m. record on 33 r.p.m.

    L.... T....

+Peter Heeres If the original is so much better than why am I here? I wouldn't have bothered to listen to the original if not for them!! I think you come off as a dumb ass!! Nobody can play a 45 on 33 rpm anymore you dumb fuck!!

    L.... T....

ur allowed your opinion, ...too bad it fell on deaf ears

    L.... T....

Its not better nor worse . Its just a different arrangement by different artists.. Are your minds that narrow that you actually fail to appreciate great singing.. by anyone other than YOUR favorites? The singers love each others versions when done well.. and this is done extremely well.. Broaden your minds and let your ears tune in.

  46. C.... C....

    This is magic.

  47. R.... J....

a beauty like no other love the gene clerk version but wow this is a real choker

  48. W.... O....

  51. G.... B....

    wow, powerful !

  52. D.... B....

I lost my Polly a few weeks ago and now I miss her so badly this gives me license to weep. Thank you.

  53. I.... A....

My professor got me into this song (Sarah) from S.S

  54. L.... R....

    Hypnotic and beautiful.

  55. E.... m....

Gene Clark was one of the great songwriters.

    E.... m....

+Edward mulholland Not a bad performer either (I like his version of this way better I must admit).

    E.... m....

The Byrds took a torpedo mid ship when Gene quit. They recovered, but they lost a singer songwriter they were really depending upon. The other guys had to really up there game of songwriting to help fill the big void.

    E.... m....

    absolutely.

    E.... m....

I agree. Gene Clark's version is the best. Not that I don't love Robert Plant because I do. However, Gene Clark's singing is just so heartfelt and less heavy than Plant's.

    E.... m....

only artist they cover twice on the album, and that's saying something considering who the others are

  56. T.... T....

This song was introduced and sung to me by Rick Smith...such a loving caring amazing Man!

  57. P.... ....

Isn't Polly a dead, passed on, ceased to be parrot from Monty Python? :-)
Just joking.. This is a great song

    P.... ....

Laughed to hard at this comment.

    P.... ....
