Plant, Robert - Fat Lip Lyrics

I can't believe it, it happens each day
It's ill conceived, just throw it away
To watch the waiting time slipping away
It won't be long now

I hold the moment, the hour is sublime
It's hard believing, dancing with time
To watch the waiting time slipping away
It won't be long now

Down at the landing when the boats come in
People stand in line
Close by the water where the fishes swim
Round and round to pass the time
But you know it's gonna get there
Around and around it's gonna spin

Out at the airport where the planes come in
People buzzing like flies
Out at the airport where the planes come in
See the hours go flashing by
But you know it's gonna get there
Around and around it's gonna spin

Down at the station where the trains come in
Never make it on time
Down at the station where the trains come in
See my friends all walk the line
But you know they're gonna get there
Around and around they're gonna spin

View it all with suspicion, view it all and despise
View it all with suspicion, view it all with my eyes

Plant, Robert Fat Lip Comments
  1. Y.... T....

There was something very special about that first solo album. This may be my favorite song by Plant.

  2. L.... D....

In the off chance someone asks me "who is Robert Plant?" I would have them listen to this song hundreds of times...just like me. Fat Lip keeps getting better with each auditory experience!

  3. D.... H....

    🥀🖤🥀AMAZING SONG🥀🖤🥀🤘

  4. r.... ....

Pictures at Eleven was perfection and Robert Plant at his best.

  5. W.... E....

I always felt this was Plant's way of mourning Zeppelin. The keys most of the songs were written in, the tone of most of the lyrics......not directly, but he was mourning what was. And wailing to the public at large that something monumental was lost. And doing it fucking brilliantly.

  7. A.... X....

    Guitar work sounds like Rhiannon

  8. B.... L....

At the time I didn't like this music because I was still a hard core Zeppelin fan from the 70s. Now I appreciate Robert was going for a new sound. So now I'm nostalgic for his early 80s music.

  9. R.... H....

I remember when I first heard this, 2018 it still pumps me up!

  10. 2.... ....

    Timeless....

  11. M.... ....

    i still have the cassette

  12. s.... ....

Hard to pick one track as a favorite, but this may be the one. Definitely need more solo Plant...

  13. A.... s....

When this came out I went to Tower Records, paid for it and went home and played it for 9 hours straight. Put it on repeat all night long. I have never stopped loving it or the sound of his voice.

  16. J.... S....

My favorite song on the album. And Robbie Blunt is criminally unknown to most people. I read somewhere that Robbie Blunt left because he felt too much pressure as he was "replacing" Jimmy Page, but his style was unique and very, very good and I wish he had stayed. Robert Plant's solo albums after Robbie Blunt are atrocious and only got airplay because it was Robert Plant. I mean, listen to Shaken 'n' Stirred. God it is awful.

    J.... S....

    Except for Easily Lead.

    J.... S....

The album is very good. And Sixes and Sevens is great.

    J.... S....

Shaken and Stirred is still with Robbie Blunt.

    J.... S....

Plant fired the whole band after Shaken n Stirred, Robbie Bunt didn’t leave because of any comparison or pressure to be Page.

  17. W.... G....

There are no klunkers on this album.

  18. D.... L....

    MINE 2!!!

  19. o.... ....

Still my favorite Robert Plant song.

    o.... ....

I agree can't get enough of it !

  20. C.... X....

I heard this song back in 1982 wafting up to my apartment window from the street below. That Middle Eastern tinged melody in the chorus was just spellbinding and stayed in my head all these years. Back in 1982, I was 99.9% certain that it was Robert Plant, but it wasn't until tonight that I finally learned song's title and heard it in it's entirety! Thank you ultimafuelie and YouTube!!

  21. R.... L....

    Sublime....... thank-you Robert. :)

  22. J.... S....

    9 dislikes? Say what

  23. R.... G....

Was fresh out of high school when this lp was released, livin the care free life, workin a part time job, goin to a local jr college, still livin at ma & pops flat, enjoying my first lengthy relationship w/ a significant other... damn I still miss her in a weird sort of way.

It's almost a religious experience hearing this after the all of the years that have passed so quickly.

Ahhh, music the way it was....just as we heard our parents say....

Can you relate to my message?

    peace

What a mark in time... As a drummer and Zep fiend - crushed when 1980 happened. This solo album is the soundtrack to 1982 and 83. And this song has just a smooth, almost melancholy mood - the very sparse drum machine ticking out like only a 1982 album can. What a great song and catalyst for fantastic memories..

me declaro admirador de mi maestro Roberto plant q viva el rock and roll

  37. s.... e....

There is something truly unique about this song.
It felt almost "separated" from all the others on the LP. A stand out of sorts.
Has always been one of my favorites from all his solo work to this very day.
So many creative and wonderful mood changes happening in this song.
Yet its beauty,I think, lies in the simplicity of its shape as a song .

    s.... e....

    Good interpretation!

    s.... e....

Do you know what this song is about? I never heard anyone give me a logical explanation.

    s.... e....

    NO ONE KNOWS!!!!!

    s.... e....

    Except me! I know!

    s.... e....

The only one on here that knows & he aint tellin.LOL

  38. B.... B....

Great song, Robbie Blunt's guitar work had such a distinctive sound, like no other for this album and that was important for this, so it wouldn't be compared to LZ.

    B.... B....

    MAGICAL DON'T YOU THINK.

  39. C.... M....

    Beautiful song.
    Fascination, contemplation  and relax.
It is like saying I feel everything is working.
    ... ...
"I`m in the airport when the plane's coming"...
"I'm at the station when the train's coming"...

  42. K.... J....

This was my favorite song on the album after I got tied of the others... FAT LIP. My 23 year old son loves this album after I played in in his head over and over and over.. By far the best solo album Plant produced : )
