the simplistic lyrics and the plaintive nature of the vocal delivery saves this. there's many ways I could see this as being trite or even embarrassing. just great execution and sincerity, and that's what separates pop from great pop. and black francis or frank or whatever tf he calls himself is a master

This is one of the best Pixies songs of all time. I love everything about it.

Very cool! A sequel song of sorts. The question as to Where? has been answered, and now it's all I think about now.

I deeply miss Kim being part of the Pixies. But Paz doing a truly great job as a member of the band. She fits perfectly, like Kim once did. I’ve always seen the Pixies as a band which the female presence is something very important. 
I think the positive side is that Kim’s still playing with the Breeders, so there are two great bands (among others) from the age of rock I like the most still active and rocking. Recent albums by both bands were inspirational. That’s fucking great.

´Bolly` told me he disapproves of the vocals , I do not though - I also like the ´retro nod twist` in this song which instantly makes you appreciate it , Paz is the bollocks and thinks her ex band mate Maynard Keenan is a hipster schizoid King which just goes around in his 60s Citroen euro car raping boys and girls about the city , gathering inspiration to outdo what he did with ´Aenima` which quite obviously he will never be able to !
And so I keep on returning to this video and leaving pretty revealing & interesting information ... oh yeah !

To be perfectly honest it´s great for Paz to be in a ´grandad rock` band like the Pixies where nobody accuses her of, and I´ll quote : ´having had public sex with members of the band` - well, the one making the accusation , as in Bolly , reeks of jealousy , so , all variables given it´s fair to assume that Paz had a sex addiction while in Zwan, having broken Bolly´s either ( the accuser , Bolly, the perennial drama queen and watcher of lizard people ... bloody Bolly ).
Santiago being the cool, caring dude he is , he probably heard of this distressful situation and instantly thought of having her replace Kim in the Pixies ... as therapy , of course ...
By the way , forget Zwan , A perfect circle and all that stuff ... where I´ve watched Paz at her best was when she was touring with Jarboe .

So, this song is an ode to Kim Deal. That is why it sounds like their old songs, in particular "Where is my mind", and Paz even sings "ooh-ooh", similar to the opening "ahh-ahh" in Where is My Mind. It's done with a purpose. It's like, we're still the Pixies, but Kim is not here anymore. So, the same but different. Get it?

I can't sing along to most of this album because it chokes me up - I am so glad that the Pixies haven't gone to shit, because it's so easy for bands to go to shit after they've been around a while. Here's to more of the Pixies. <3

Wow Pixies reuse all previous successful riffs to make a song for someone who left because so many fans worked out who the real genius was..... and had a successful career.... and has managed to keep their dignity. Token young member of band as well, I guess fans have kids who haven't got past hero worship yet (preteen).

Why so many argue about old/new Pixies...they are the grestest band ever been on the stage, now and then. Period.

Incredible, beautiful.. echoes of the 80s but all i hear is franks voice like a ghost in my mind as it plays out. Paz is brilliant but if Charles sang this it would be dream transporter back to the day i first played Doolittle all those years ago. Music from another world it blew my mind...the most original mindful band since time ...

Pixies will be playing and composing in twenty years. Great shows this week, the cliche like most bands get like good wine applies, difference is, FRANK BLACK is still writing great songs.

Not sure what I feel about these guys anymore. Maybe they should of retired the Pixies name instead of having to face the pressure of their rabid fan base. This feels a bit like them trying to win back some of the old fans. Feels forced whether it was the intention or not.

Why do people keep saying this sounds like 'where is my mind', apart from the riff it sounds nothing like it, it is a tribute to Kim and how Frank regrets what happened between them.

JOHN PAUL Jones Really? Trompe is a classic, listen again my friend, this stuff is good but it is foolish to think they will ever better the first four albums and we should not expect them too.

Im not a new fan of these Pixies, been into them since 89, seen them live many times and own Trompe Le Monde and very familiar with its content. Motorway to Rosswell and Alec Eiffel, best tracks IMO, but there's a few fillers and does sound like a band losing its scope at times. Many critics at the time argued that Bossanova was a down-turn or a Frank Black solo album but I disagree, one of their best I think.
I was making the point that Head Carrier and Indy Cindy stand up to their earlier works in the context of a varying developing sound between 1987-92.

Fascinatinting fan views; I love T le M. I am awestruck, listenening to it over last two months cos of school, long run just how bloody brilliant it is. All the songs are so tuneful and catchy. It is genius up there with , in a modern kind of way, Blood on the Tracks. That's all Im saying. IT IS THAT GOOD

These new Pixies songs are missing something, what's the Deal?

I think that Paz does a great job with the Deal-era stuff, in large part because she seems very happy or honored to participate. She's perhaps intentionally not trying to change the parts, and I doubt that they'll ever do "Gigantic" live. I love it when she sings in Spanish with Charles because of course it's her first language (as far as I know). Another layer unique to this band in this general genre.

For the new stuff she's great, but you ought to look for e.g. her "Songs for Lucia" tribute to her brother who committed suicide. She also covers John Cale and so on; we've seen her play fiddle with Pixies in studio acoustic gigs. I'd like to see and hear more fiddle. She's younger than the other members by about ten years on average but still in her mid-40's yet seems younger and has great energy. She's an excellent asset and wise choice.

No one can replace Kim but that's not the point. Charles wrote most of Pixies's material, much of it amazing and Kim, in her own words, was "the bass player". She also did great work with The Breeders and The Amps, with her sister, etc., much of which rivals the best Pixies stuff -- but it's apples and oranges.

They've performed "Gigantic" on this most recent tour with Weezer. I was surprised by that, too, but it sounded great.
