Pink Floyd - Scream Thy Last Scream Lyrics

Scream thy last scream old woman with a casket
Blam blam your pointers point your pointers
Waddle with apples to crunchy Mrs. Stores
She'll be scrumping for apples on all fours
Scream thy last scream old woman with a casket

Fling your arms madly old lady with a daughter
Flat tops of houses, mouses, houses
Flittin and hittin and fittin quack quack
Watching the telly till all hours - telly time!
Fling your arms madly old lady with a daughter

Scream thy last scream old woman with a casket
Blam blam your pointers point your pointers
Waddle with apples to crunchy Mrs. Stores
She'll be scrumping for apples on all fours
Scream thy last scream old woman with a casket

Sounds pretty much like Baby Lemonade.

  2. S.... D....

This is the sound of Acid mixed with Mandrax!!

  3. c.... t....

Fantastic.. Should have been best track on a poor album!.. plus Veg Man of course.

  4. R.... O....

rick wrights organ always so unearthly

    C.... ....

    That's Syd Barrett's crazy ass

  6. D.... P....

That why I named my cartoon bunny after them Pinkerton Floyd Rabbit

  7. e.... ....

I hear SF Sorrow getting their influence from this track in particular, amazing!!

  8. f.... ....

Should have been a single, backed with Vegetable Man

  9. m.... ....

The chipmunks visited the madcap at the gates of dawn.

  10. s.... ....

    nick sings on this one

  11. r.... m....

This track should have been released in 1968 on the "A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS" album! Besides being the most Psychedelic track recorded with Syd Barrett, this track would have sat well along with "Corporal Clegg" another track on which Nick Mason sings the Lead Vocal. Note: Barrett sings the line ~ "She'll be scrubbing bubbles on all fours." I believe Syd's voice was sped up and is also singing Lead Vocal! Incredible Farfisa Organ solo, utilizing a Wah Wah Pedal, by Rick Wright, I think his best!, and Drumming by Nicky Mason! I love Syd's Guitar patterns, on his Fender Esquire,
towards the end of the song. This track was so innovative and ahead of it's time! As you can hear, this was an entirely different band with Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett at the helm! He was the focal point and driving force while in The Pink Floyd. It's a damned shame it took 50 years to officially release this Psychedelic masterpiece! Although, I prefer the original 1967 mix. Raul.😐

  14. E.... R....

    I want more !

  15. S.... L....

    Syd sung it better .

  16. D.... P....

Lol : 3:06 the insane laugh

  17. E.... ....

    3:06 SYYYYD

  18. D.... ....

Nick sounds the most like a Beatle to me. The other four (well, maybe not Syd in some cases) have a unique sound that was able to morph into the Floyd. Not that that's bad, of course, I guess I just haven't heard enough of Nick singing compared to David and Roger.

    D.... ....

Nick sounds the most like Ramones o Sex Pistols......

  19. S.... I....

    who tf disliked it huh?

  20. K.... C....

Man, they really tried to hide the high pitched voice.

  21. A.... L....

Wouldn't you love to have seen Nick perform this? I don't even mean just the vocals..I just mean he's fantastic to watch at a drum set 🙏

  22. A.... M....

Fascinating song. Not sure what to think of it.

  23. N.... I....

Would have been a killer single. This is my favourite track from the whole box set.

  24. P.... E....

Essa ia sair em qual album?

  25. P.... ....

    Y aquí acaba Pink Floyd.
(Por lo menos a mí punto de vista)

    P.... ....

La última canción de Syd con Pink Floyd.

  26. F.... A....

    I'm crying 🤑😢🤑😍🤑

  27. R.... F....

Is that really Just Nick...I always thought it was syd singing...either way, this song is still proof that Syd was God... Oh, Sock it to 'em!

    R.... F....

Syd never sang with that mockery style, his style is more beat or folk.
Mason did it in punk way.

  28. d.... s....

    syd's dark gothic masterpiece

  29. D.... L....

Apparently a promotional video was made for this song but it was never released, it would be cool if the video still exists.
I read a description of the video and the Pink Floyd members appear in it.

  30. S.... D....

I can hear "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" in there. :)

  31. D.... ....

oh wow this is not good at all. well done keeping it shelved for so long

    D.... ....

    Bastard.

  32. J.... W....

    Valentin Day song.

  33. C.... ....

They really went for the Mitch Mitchell drum sound here, didn't they.

    C.... ....

Mitch and Nick two of the most underated drummers of all time

  34. F.... M....

This song and Vegetable Man should be on Saucerful of Secrets. Syd Barrett was so amazing, a great songwriter, great singer, schizophrenic, but a genius!

  35. R.... F....

    LSD music

  36. A.... ....

Nick Mason also has lead vocals in the song “Corporal Clegg.” Which is one of my favorites.

  37. R.... L....

Sounds like Syd singing to me but what do I know?

  38. S.... K....

    This song is hella grungy

  39. B.... .....

My favorite part is during the jam in the middle when Nick says "Oh, suck it!" How totally bizarre...

    B.... .....

It's actually Syd saying "oh, sock it to me!", a common saying back in the day. Jimi Hendrix said it during his performance of "Wild Thing" at Monterey Pop.

    B.... .....

Well that actually makes a lot more sense, but the problem is I just don't hear the "to me" part, even on headphones, even on full blast.

    B.... .....

    @Benjamin .Heneberry You are correct.

  40. H.... H....

Watching the telly til all hours

  41. P.... M....

    Barrett is the gnome's voice

  42. G.... F....

Anyone else here because of acid?

    G.... F....

Not today, but I would have loved to have heard this back in the days when I was doing it. Haha!

  43. m.... m....

    Amazing💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

  44. D.... A....

The vocals kinda reminds me baby lemonade

  45. S.... U....

It is in my own opinion that "Scream Thy Last Scream" would have made a decent single. It would have been a great opportunity to turn the Floyd from a (at the time seen as a) pop act into a more seriously adventurous Psychedelic band. Unfortunately, the label wanted a single that could rival "See Emily Play", and weren't about to let them release a single as "out there" as this. It's unfortunate, really. This song truly is great in many ways. It's very energetic, adventurous, very inspired. You can tell by the way the band plays together that they were invested into it. Look at the song "Apples and Oranges". The energy isn't there, the enthusiasm is gone. The lyrics are flat and you can tell they were giving up the ghost and just trying to write a "hit". "Scream" might not have been a big hit, but it was truer to what the Floyd actually was in that period. You can say that Syd "went crazy" all you like, but the output here is undeniably more authentic-sounding to the spirit of the Syd-era Floyd than "Apples and Oranges" ever could be. The sad thing is, EMI only wanted what they considered "were hits". "See Emily Play" was a hit, which unfortunately turned Pink Floyd (particularly Syd) into something they never actually set out to be, which was a "pop" group. I think that's really what led to Syd's demise. All that nonsense pressure and all the insane expectations.

    S.... U....

@Joe Joe Syd's real problems started when he was nearly electrocuted at the Cheetah Club. See Alice Cooper interview. Electrically induced neuropsych damage.

    S.... U....

Syd never went crazy folks. He was saner than most of us.

    S.... U....

Kamen Anew not crazy at all but possibly “ broken by trained personnel “ as per “ Dogs”

    S.... U....

    @Adominae nah not broken either.

  46. K.... B....

This is like if Edgar Alan Poe was a musician

    K.... B....

yes, and "vegetable man" if Vincent van Gogh was a musican

  47. J.... H....

Such a clear mix. I had this on some bootleg albums decades ago. This sound quality is far better. Perfect.

  48. K.... ....

Nick should've sang more songs, his vocals make me feel the same as Syd's

    K.... ....

    He sang on "Corporal Clegg".

    K.... ....

Yep, but perhaps he never felt comfortable, especially if he'll have to sing in gigs.

  49. S.... C....

Not only did Pink Floyd do songs about clocks, filthy rich, warmongers, madness, drug taking, dads, moms, walls, girls and aging, but now I hear a crazy diamond? Syd you were visiting jewelry stores too much.

  50. M.... ....

Nick Mason sings good! Maybe he should have sung on more songs? (also phrase on 'One of these days... ', part vocal on corporal Clegg, plus on Christmas song)

  51. T.... ....

One of my very favorite Pink Floyd songs sung by Nick Mason !

  52. d.... s....

    perfect

  53. G.... A....

2:12 : Syd saying "Ah suck it"

    G.... A....

Refreshing Dead he actually said "Oh, sock it to me!!"

    G.... A....

Know Moore lost in perfect annunciation...cup of tea?

    G.... A....

Yup. There is no evidence of "to me" in this release.

  54. M.... ....

I think most agree this is one of the best songs they never released. First time I heard this I was just dumbfounded at it's cracked majesty. Perfect for doing those crazy free form hippie dances you see on the old films.

  55. J.... R....

    This is funny!!!

  56. T.... '....

The double speed vocal appears to have been digitally time corrected! Notice on the ‘74 mix how it wavers in and out of sync with the lead vocal? Does this potentially alter the disconcerting impact of the original?

    T.... '....

I don't mind that as much as the fact they turned down Syd's vocal wailing in the last minute of the song. It's a lot more audible in the Peter Jenner 1974 mix. Although I still prefer the 2010 mix over all the other versions. The clarity is incredible.

    T.... '....

Indeed, the clarity has greatly improved. I personally prefer the original for the slower, darker transients and less aggressive presentation. How do you find the Sgt Pepper 50th mixes?

    T.... '....

I absolutely adore the 50th anniversary remixes of "Sgt. Pepper's". But one of my friends doesn't like how it was mixed. I also feel "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" could have used more phasing. Giles Martin played it safe for modern audiences.

  57. S.... M....

Can you imagine Saucerful with this song and Vegetable man? They are better than anything else on that album and it would have made it so much better.

    S.... M....

Sean Marcum a little late but I’d replace corporal clegg and let there be more light for Scream and Vegetable man

    S.... M....

@Barry McCockinner corporal clegg maybe, but i love let there be more light as a stamp of david gilmour's arrival on guitar and the overall direction the band took. the song itself is silly, and i'm sure david himself would say so, but the big picture makes it pretty significant

    S.... M....

Jennifer Lieu well when you put it like that I’m more compelled to keep it.

    S.... M....

Let there be more light is great, so trippy and has a good bass line.

  58. d.... s....

waters at that time had nothing to match this!

    d.... s....

neither did a 19 year old Yeats have anything to match it. Nor did Dostoeveski. So what? Hard to imagini SydBarret coming up with anything greater than this or Arnold Layne, etc ... But it's hardly Animals or The Wall, is it .....

    d.... s....

not sure what your rambling comment is trying to get at but thank god this track isn't like animals or the wall...oh and it's syd barrett not syd barret

    d.... s....

+Kevin Marshall Syd Barrett's solo albums are a great indication Syd's lyricism was growing more mature and complex.

  59. C.... ....

Oh my god, this remix is amazing.

  60. J.... S....

Hi! Like this so much. Nick Mason is singing. I have Pink Floyd The Early Years 1965 - 1967 Cambridge ST/ATION I have this Vol 1. Pink Floyd. I enjoy lot.

  61. d.... m....

Nick mason on vocals ? Sure ?

    d.... m....

denis martin Syd sings the line "She'll be scrubbing bottles on all fours"

    d.... m....

Yep, listen his pronounciation with a lot of malice, Syd or Waters would sing that without emphasizing each word in that way, listen the mockery singing style not usual in another Pink Floyd singer.

  62. D.... D....

02:37 - 02:45 Nick Mason invented the "Blast beat" later used by Siege, Repulsion, Terrorizer , Napalm Death etc ... :-)

    D.... D....

    Would have never noticed o_O

    D.... D....

Are you sure he is the first one?

    D.... D....

    @Echoes of The Timesprobably

    D.... D....

Blast Beats was invented by Jazz drummers years before Nick thought about playing the drums.

  63. M.... ....

I have a slightly different mix

  64. M.... ....

2:12 do I hear AW SHIT

    M.... ....

    "Aw, sock it to me"

  65. M.... ....

besides Nick Mason isn't Syd Barrett singing?

    M.... ....

Syd's doing the chipmunk vocals. He also sings the line "she'll be scrubbing bubbles on all fours" at normal speed.

  66. S.... M....

that voice in the background always gets me

  67. R.... ....

Touching intro by Syd, the whole song is beautiful, I love you Syd

  68. N.... S....

I used to think Syd sang this. Still impressed.

    N.... S....

Nostalgic Storm Wave Storm Wave. Syd wrote it and sang the line"She'll be scrubbing bottles on all fours"

  69. d.... m....

Please welcome Nick Mason on vocals

    d.... m....

....Well, who do you think said "VEGETABLE MAN, WHERE ARE YOU"? :-D

  70. K.... H....

This should have been on their 2nd album along with Vegetable Man.

  71. Y.... M....

Creme de la creme old woman

  72. .... ....

This is so trippy man, I love it.

  73. A.... R....

Pensé que está canción la cantaba syd barrett :o

  74. T.... R....

I don't think Nick Mason was too comfortable or happy singing this.

    T.... R....

Why do you say that? He sounds fantastic and he seems to be putting his all into it. I love the way he spits some of the lyrics out like that

    T.... R....

    Jayce Moore
Nick himself admitted that he didn't think his voice was that good compared to Syd, Rick, Roger, and David.

    T.... R....

Aww, that’s unfortunate. I thought he sounded just as good in this. Although, Roger is also on record saying that he doesn’t think he can sing and that he has no idea how it works. So I think being self-conscious might just run in the band when compared to our great Syd or David.

    T.... R....

Jayce Moore and Roger is a bully so that fits.

  75. J.... B....

    The OG times

  76. d.... s....

he does marc-the vocal resemblance is uncanny

  77. R.... S....

I heard this song with Syd singing...

    R.... S....

    No,Mason singing.

    R.... S....

There's a BBC version with Syd and Rick singing, yes.

  78. C.... B....

Is that a wah wah effect on an organ? oh my... what a great band they were. Very original!

    C.... B....

apart from both using the binson echorec, both syd and rick would take turns on wah wah on certain songs.-peter jenner described early performances of pink Floyd as very interesting because'it was very difficult to tell who was playing what'

  79. M.... B....

    From early 1968.

    M.... B....

no mark-it was recorded at abbey road 7th august 1967 and further overdubs added at dea lane lea studios in October 1967

    M.... B....

I just recall hearing it early 1968. You are correct on recording date. I had a bootleg as it was NOT officially released back then.

    M.... B....

Mark Bowles how is it called?

  80. M.... B....

    Syd sings this song!!!

    M.... B....

syd asked nick to sing it and joins in on bits

    M.... B....

He sounds so much like Syd!

    M.... B....

Syd wrote the song and in the 70s ,80s.and 90s and onward it was assumed that Syd sang this song. There was not enough info given out at this time about this song. One of my favourites. I did research and you are correct. Quite shocked...SHOCKED!!!

    M.... B....

Syd sings the high pitched vocals

  81. d.... s....

syd says"sock it to me! "as the band lets loose on the instrumental section of this brilliant dark song

    d.... s....

    "Oh, suck it"

  82. L.... ....

Sounds slower..why can't the song stay the way it was.. original is best.

    L.... ....

This is how it was. I've had the bootlegs for nearly a decade. It's still the same speed.

  83. b.... b....

    This is a lost classic

  84. P.... ....

Crazy brilliance. I think Waters vetoed this being released because he had nothing even close to as good in his repertoire at that point.

    P.... ....

The song was a finished product, even had a release date planned as well as a video made by Spike Hawkins. EMI vetoed its release because they didn't think it would sell. They wanted another "See Emily Play", but this was far from it.

    P.... ....

I think Ol' Waters had a say in the matter(I wonder if Syd helped on "Several Small Species....do I hear a "Binson" unit?)

    P.... ....

    And still doesn't, sadly!

    P.... ....

😂😂✌️ I LOVE it and yer probably right!

    P.... ....

Come back when you have something intelligent to say.

  85. R.... ....

    beautiful song by syd

  86. M.... ....

    That middle section is amazing.

    M.... ....

In my mind, it sounds similar to sections that the Doors used around that period. Similar but far more out there, which is a good thing to me.

  87. T.... ....

    Wait, that's Nick singing?!?!?!?
    I am in shock O_o

    T.... ....

And definitely is Nick Mason, no one of Pink Floyd ever sang in that punk way.

    T.... ....

Nick sings the whole song except "She'll be scrubbing bubbles on all fours" which is sung by Syd.

    T.... ....

    That's Syd Barrett singing. Jeez.....

    T.... ....

its like no one remembers corporal clegg

    T.... ....

    @Antonio Corona i do.liked it on saucerful.

  88. K.... M....

Thank god they buried the varispeed vocals further down in the mix. Older mixes (Peter Jenner?) has them up with Nick's which is a bit distracting.

    K.... M....

The varispeed vocals are the best part, man.

    K.... M....

you wouldn't believe the other MIXES and such

    K.... M....

Absolutely , this gives us the vision of " old men DECENT" - I would bet my life Syd wanted those "varispeed " vocals pretty prominent in the mix, pretty much like he wished to hear " Bike " ending up the way it does , those loose jams he pulls with the Soft Machine guys are a great example of his musical vision where "tightness" and perfect synchronicity were hardly means , let alone ends, he got to the very core of what " music " meant to our ancestors, its primevil purposes , music as an an act hardly restrained by this or that convention , etc ... and the " musical purity " he maintained till the very end : pick a guitar , either tune it rather erratically till he got a certain sound or not even touch it, just adapt to whatever sound it would make and simply proceed to record highly memorable songs a la " Terrapin " ; " Gigolo aunt " ; Dominoes " ; "Opel " etc ... etc ... hahaha @ these musings , but yeah, I´m listening to this and asking myself how Syd would have wished this to have sounded like ... the answer is quite obviously nowhere near this , of course ... this is as pleasent to listen to as it must be for some archeologist to find some ancient sumerian tablets he can´t truly decipher , yet he cleans it and arranges it his own way ... reads into it, a mix of that which he understands , tries to fill in the gaps with his own speculations etc ... that sort of charm ... I apologise for the long post , taking some stuff for a throat infection , mixed with pot ... maybe it is that cause I sure feel rather sleepy after I take these meds on top of a casual joint, just discovered it is not as difficult to quit smoking (cigs) altogether as I thought , can´t do without cannabis though , since I´m adding no tobacco it shouldn´t be as insidious as nicotine and all those chemicals in cigs ,maybe also a fortnight of not going out of the house ... going nuuuts ! oh well, sorry guys , wtf ...

    K.... M....

    Delhi Delirium

    Translation: SHAGGY THIS ISN'T WEED

    K.... M....

I think they varispeed vocals were meant to be as pronounced as Nick's vocals. Syd wanted it like that for some reason or another. Probably to give the song a more Psychedelic edge.

  89. Y.... S....

    これだよ。

  90. A.... P....

This and Vegetable Man should've been on A Saucerful of Secrets, maybe someday they'll add them hopefully but I don't think it's likely. :(

    A.... P....

They almost ended up on Syd's "Opal", but the rest of Floyd nixed them.

    A.... P....

Man In Magenta Wig I've heard about that before. Kinda dissapointed Pink Floyd nixed them being put on there.

    A.... P....

Lol J.H. Warrior I wouldn't call them "romantic"

    A.... P....

I think he was being sarcastic ... romantic black hole delirium would be more like it .

    A.... P....

Apparently Pink Floyd's managers at the time Peter Jenner and Andrew King pressured the band to include "Scream Thy Last Scream" and "Vegetable Man" on the album, but the band decided against it. Peter Jenner brought it up in an interview he did for the Syd Barrett Facebook group Birdie Hop.

  91. J.... W....

Que romanticismo de canción;cualquier poema de amor se que da corto con está hermosa canción.

  92. F.... ....

Somebody told me it was Nick singing on this song... If it is then his voice is so adorable ^^

    F.... ....

    I'm in shock too.

    F.... ....

Surprises me too, I always imagined, and I guess hoped, it was Syd.

    F.... ....

Syd sings the high-pitched verse in the background

    F.... ....

enuma elish shroomin trippin’ off his dial

    F.... ....

@Man In Magenta Wig Yeah I know that now, I didn't at the time.

  93. J.... W....

    C.... C....

    Very romantic.

    C.... C....

I thought it was "she'll be scrubbing bubbles on all fours", a reference to housecleaning. Otherwise, I agree with the lyrics.

    C.... C....

Yes."She'll be scrubbing on all fours".floydlyrics.blogspot.mx.

    C.... C....

thank you for letting me know.

    C.... C....

    work of genius

  95. J.... W....

    Valentine's Day,perfect song.

  96. C.... ....

This is not the real version. The 2010 remixes suck ass. Something is very off about them. Seek out the original mixes, 100%!

    C.... ....

There never were original mixes. The earliest available mixes for Scream and Vegetable Man online are from 1974. The band recorded the songs on 4-track in 1967, but never had them completed them after that. Peter Jenner mixed them in 1974 for a possible third Syd Barrett solo album, then Malcolm Jones mixed them in 1987 for "Opel", though neither of them were officially released.

  97. Y.... S....

    これは………!!!

  98. S.... G....

I know everyone's already said it, but this really wasn't anywhere easy accessible by google lol so i haven't heard it since like 2011 and its still so dank in 2017

    S.... G....

It's been on the bbc archive bootleg for ages btw :P

    S.... G....

I had to track it down. Luckily I found an old bootleg compilation that was going around and found old mixes. Burned em to a disc and held onto it.

    S.... G....

That opening verse with Syd in background. Insanity purified. I like the other video with comments disabled

  99. Z.... T....

The tune of this must've evolved into "Baby Lemonade"...

    Z.... T....

zoran susnjar Wow I have never noticed that, but can definitely hear it.

    Z.... T....

Oh yeah, very similar chord progression
