Pink Floyd - Free Four Lyrics

One two three four!

The memories of a man in his old age
Are the deeds of a man in his prime.

You shuffle in the gloom of the sickroom
And talk to yourself as you die.

Life is a short warm moment
And death is a long cold rest.
You get your chance to try
In the twinkling of an eye:
Eighty years, with luck, or even less.

So all aboard for the American tour,
And maybe you'll make it to the top.
But mind how you go.
I can tell you, 'cause I know.
You may find it hard to get off.

You are the angel of death
And I am the dead man's son.
He was buried like a mole in a fox hole.
And everyone is still on the run.

And who is the master of fox hounds?
And who says the hunt has begun?
And who calls the tune in the courtroom?
And who beats the funeral drum?

The memories of a man in his old age
Are the deeds of a man in his prime.

You shuffle in the gloom of the sickroom
And talk to yourself as you die.

  8. R.... G....

121 people with no taste .

  9. G.... U....

Now that I'm a man in my old age, this song makes more sense.

  10. S.... A....

    Did Barrett genius.

    S.... A....

    Sid Barrett genius.

  11. V.... ....

Every song on OBC is a good one. There is nothing to dislike about this album apart from a dreadful cover. Sorry, but it is. Storm sorted his shit out for the next couple to be fair to him though.

  12. t.... ....

This was copied by spirit in the sky

    t.... ....

Spirit in the Sky was released in 1969, 3 years before this album.

    t.... ....

    Jersey Joe oh really?

  13. l.... B....

On this song you can see that they have been listen to David's Bowie Hunky Dory and T-Rex Electric warrior.

  14. R.... ....

    Existentialism redux.

  15. V.... ....

Weird to see a to much happy song in pink floyd

    V.... ....

Just read the lyrics and think again :P

  16. U.... T....

The synth in this song really makes it stand out!

  17. j.... ....

Over the decades I've begun to realize the extent to which different musicians and songs are influenced/inspired by each other. Anyone recognize the similarity to Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit In The Sky" from 1969 (3 years before this song)?

  18. B.... A....

OMG! Seriously! I am a lifelong fan of Pink. I never heard this song before tonight! They mix with my other favs the Beatles in this. What an ear worm! Early what they were about to be.

  19. T.... A....

    ONE

  20. J.... S....

80 yrs with luck or even less. That's a scary thought albeit as true as it gets. Peace Ray Southland 1961-2019. Middle School Principal, Highly rated Wrestling Official, damn good guy.

  21. D.... A....

This is my favorite song of my wife . thanks pink Floyd.

  22. D.... A....

Wow Ito Ang sounds ko!works memorize ko to lahat.

  23. M.... D....

    One! Two! Free! Four!

  24. A.... A....

It is a mighty fun to see how people shout their heads off how underrated the lesser known Floyd stuff is. Well, for the most part it isn't. It is less known for a good reason. I make an exception for "Atom Heart Mother" - that's a masterpiece that should be better known. But the other early stuff, and much of the late one, is a mixture of a few brilliant flashes and plenty of lacklustre wackiness. "Obscured by Clouds" is a sweet and charming album, very enjoyable. But it's neither a masterpiece nor underrated.

    A.... A....

Piper at the Gates is a masterpiece

  25. B.... C....

    One, Two, FREE FOUR

  26. W.... S....

And who is the master of fox hounds, and who says the hunt has begun ...

  27. M.... F....

This is the calm before the storm!! The storm being Dark Side of the Moon!!

  28. B.... C....

    Great songs will live forever....

  29. R.... P....

Free Four so true I still use some of those line in regular conversation

  30. R.... G....

    Great tune

  31. O.... M....

1:29 Huh, that solo sounds a little bit like the one in _Comfortably Numb_ ...
Anyway, this is such an underrated album, but I'm glad I found it.

  32. M.... ....

    another great one

  33. D.... B....

Run is Roger waters code for paranoia

  34. J.... D....

At first, I thought it sounded like the Beatles... and that badass solo kicked in

  35. K.... H....

Pink Floyd got the name 4 this song. When Syd Barrett said. 1. 2. 3. 4. Was actually. Free 4. Kinda neat. Luv those wacky floydsters. R n r

  36. r.... h....

    The de-e-eds of a hairdryer, are the deeds of it's use in it's time . Barrrrgh-rumphy, domph- e .

  38. a.... m....

    song for my funeral

  39. J.... W....

First PF to get radio play.I bought the album and was blown away. Been that way since.

  40. R.... U....

El Riff de David tiene el mismo sonido que en Rattle That lock.

  41. Z.... T....

I`d buy this song for free fidggy.

  42. J.... C....

This is the British version of Spirit in the Sky

  43. M.... S....

The stratocaster solo sounds epic in this song!

  44. M.... S....

"The memories of a man in his old age are the deeds of a man in his prime". Sounds like Roger Waters is singing about himself.

  45. M.... S....

    What is this song about???

    M.... S....

A cheerful song about the depressing things in life.

    M.... S....

    It's pretty straight forward

  46. R.... H....

    the memoirs of a man

  47. F.... ....

From the start of Meddle until the end of The Wall, this is the only Pink Floyd song I don't like. And even this has a nice guitar solo.

  48. C.... T....

And who is the master of foxhounds
And who said the hunt has begun

  49. R.... E....

    1 2 free four

  50. A.... S....

After listening to this song about World War II, it reminds me of the band that did the movie about WWII with Bob Geodolf in it. Did they sort of rip the off the idea from these dudes for the story is sort of similar.

  51. R.... E....

    Grossly underrated.

  52. T.... W....

    One...Two...Free Four.....Friggin' Excellent!

  53. f.... s....

    Great song, beautiful memories.

  54. M.... N....

I love how the jaunty upbeat music contrasts with the incredibly depressing lyrics.

  55. T.... C....

Reminds me of san tropez lol

  56. C.... H....

play this at my funeral..... on cassette

  57. 2.... ....

That guitar solo. Short but sweet...

  58. S.... B....

I am the dead man's son

  59. E.... K....

Fantastic (and criminally underrated ) album. The lyrics hit harder and ring truer than in '95, when me and my brothers made a silly video to this track.

  60. I.... D....

The master of Fox Hounds? Big Boss!

  61. 7.... T....

I was 10 when this album came out. Memories

  62. R.... W....

Underrated and forgotten classic...still love it after hearing it in the 80's with a friend...had one of my first mindfucks when tripping

  63. P.... P....

    A rare and excellente song!!!!

At 3:10, you can hear someone talking.

  66. s.... ....

*The funniest thing about this song is*

  67. T.... ....

this might just be my favourite by Floyd,
    catchy as fook
    has meaning
    amazing guitar solo
    overall fantastic lol

  68. m.... ....

    Thanks for the upload:D

  69. N.... 4....

    We all die.

  70. E.... ....

    Country Floyd

    ONE-TWO-FREE-FOUR

  71. A.... M....

Yes most underrated! One of the sickest, most rocking songs Floyd ever did! Waters smashing chords on the bass with wicked distortion. Gilmore's fucking wailing lead AND playing the 12 string. Wright on synth, Mason on drums. I do not see how these men could accomplish what they did!

  72. J.... M....

life is a short warm moment and death is a long cold rest.......

  73. D.... J....

Me and Art were sitting in his house in a empty living room tripping on lsd back in 72, "one of these days" came on his stereo, we didn't move! Still remember after all these years!

  74. C.... D....

Is there no live version to be found for Free Four, or on dvd?

  75. V.... E....

I find this song kind of hilarious. Some of the most morbid lyrics ever, with such a jolly upbeat pop instrumental.

  76. D.... F....

At 3:44, you can hear the same sound from More Blues.

  77. s.... ....

this and pigs three different ones two best

    s.... ....

"Animals" was very under-rated. One of my favorites.

  78. S.... ....

This is like if Neutral Milk Hotel met Pink Floyd

    S.... ....

More like if Pink Floyd met Pink Floyd, dontcha think?

  79. S.... ....

Man this is one fucked up song.

  80. A.... ....

A Happy up tune pop song with dark lyrics and the synth from Obscured by clouds with a Kickass solo

That is what you call Art, kids!

  81. E.... W....

This, surely, was (part of) the inspiration for Eric Idle's ALWAYS LOOK AT THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE ?!

  82. D.... ....

Holy shit I love this tune! Reminds me of my dad when he was younger & wild

  83. L.... ....

You know, haven't seen the film, but this seems more fitted to a wes anderson movie than whatever the actual one seems to be going for ^^" Still, a very nice song from the group, I like hearing them try different styles like that.

  84. M.... c....

    Fa da kind rang ire

  85. P.... L....

Kinda reminds me of Neil young.

    P.... L....

    i dont get it

  86. T.... ....

    T.... ....

i HAD A GRANDFATHER THAT DID THAT.

Great song ....... so true to life

  92. C.... B....

Roger's favorite subject, yes underrated--great, true song. Laugh at the reaper!

  93. F.... M....

You are the angel of death & I am the dead man's son..

  94. T.... C....

I got to see them on the Animals tour, first night, in Oakland in 1977. Still the best concert I've ever seen. Last time they played CWTAE in public as it turns out . . .
