Pickett, Wilson - Sugar, Sugar Lyrics
Sugar
Ah, honey, honey
You are my candy girl
And you got me wanting you
Ah, sugar, sugar
You are my candy girl
And you got me wanting you
I just can't believe
The loveliness of loving you
(I just can't believe it's true)
I just can't believe
The wonder of this feeling, too
(I just can't believe it's true)
Ah, sugar
Ah, honey, honey
You are my candy girl
And you got me wanting you
Oh, honey
Ah, sugar, sugar
You are my candy girl
And you got me wanting you
When I kissed you, girl
I knew how sweet a kiss could be
(I knew how sweet a kiss could be)
Like the summer sunshine
Pour your sweetness over me
(Pour your sweetness over me)
Ohh, sugar
Pour your sugar on me, honey
Pour your sugar on me, baby
(I'm gonna make your life so sweet)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Pour your sugar on me, oh yeah
Pour your sugar on me, honey
Pour your sugar on me, baby
(I'm gonna make your life so sweet)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Pour your sugar on me, honey
Ah, sugar
Ah-ah-ah, honey, honey
You are my candy girl
And you got me wanting you
Oh
(Honey, honey, sugar, sugar)
Ah, sugar, sugar
(Honey, honey, sugar, sugar)
You are my candy girl

Pickett, Wilson Sugar, Sugar Comments
My" Candy" passed June 8 2018.
James Fisher, I miss you.
Love Pickett but Archie’s have him beat on this one. Too slow for my taste.
Oh I fell in love with him then.
Drawn to this song. It goes off in my head like a light bulb...... Lighting Bolt!!
Sugar, Honey, Honey,........
I never liked this song growing up in the 60's and seeing / hearing the Archie cartoon. BUT THIS IS FANTASTIC ! Now I like this song . In this version of course .
Superb version
I go for the Archies, and Kim singing it, but as a teen I was one big Wilson fan, and will always have a place for him along with all the other soulful musicians from that time. He does a bad ass version of Hey Jude which many people have heard. I believe he recorded at Muscle Shoals with many great musicians and a great backing band of white boys ! Oh yes, The Swamp Boys, i think they were called ? Aretha Franklin wanted to record with them, and when she found it they were all white, it blew her mind. Sugar Sugar was a great song for it's elegance and simplicity, even the hand claps were perfect. ahhh, what the hell do i know, anyhow.
Wanting you, Candy..... I can't stop wanting you I will now AND forever!!
Granddaddy use to play this for Grandmother !
Wow!!! The world renowned soul and R&B singer Wilson Pickett singing The Archies' SUGAR SUGAR.
Nice version with a unique soulful flavour. Always love Wilson Picket and may his legacy live on forever.
sweet no matter who sings it lol
Why would anyone "down arrow" this?
Mary Pag, Lack of love, need someone to fill that void........ Lack of love in their lives!!
GOD Wilson sure gets your juices flowing & that great backing---WOW ..
From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan.
Amazing performance.
I am a massive Wilson Pickett fan. How can you listen to any of his original work or covers and not start moving? Amazing artist!
Oh, i like this song
ONCE I GET KG OUT OF MY MIND, I CAN FIND MY HONEY, MY SUGAR-SUGAR
HONEY OH SUGAR-SUGAR, ( SING IT WILSON-PICKETT ) SUGAR HONEY-HONEY ON REPEAT
Awesomr rendition of a song that The Archies took to # 1 in 1969!
Nice version, the Bob Marley version is very good, I also remember a really hard version I think by "the great U-Roy" but I cant find it on YouTube, anybody know of that version, am I mistaken?
I got here because I was looking at ..... something about ..... well, now that I AM here, this is great! The truth is, the song “Sugar Sugar” was offered to the Monkees! They were, at that stage, rebelling against the studio. The studio basically said, “fine, we’ll give it to a cartoon band”. And THAT is when The Archie’s got their first hit. Okay, I digressed just a tad and now I am back. My point was going to be, a great song is a great song. Period. This song has the chord changes that work well in major and minor scales! It has the hooks that a pop song needs! It has that “something “. I personally, love the Archie’s version only because of all of the GREAT kids type memories attached to it.
First time I ever enjoyed this song.
Honey,sugar sugar u r my Valentine's,girl,I want u,have 2 have u,SUGAR
Sugar honey so sweet lady r girl,LOVE it
Nah, Archies did it better. Nice try though
Way too slow... However, at 1.25x = kinda like the original. Sounds pretty good! At 1.5x=Reggae ! 1.75-2x=Ska ! 2x is awesome Fun. Could clean the house. go back.... 0.75x = VERY Soulful. I think I love it. Last test.... Try it at 0.5x for a short period of time...then jump to 1.25x. Instant action!
Sounds great at 1.25 (if not better) now..
Wow!!! This is geinune one...
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan.
Phil----what is " dreck "
What a great interpretation !
he sounds like louie armstrong
I completely adore you. I’m addicted to you and the sweetness of your love. Always you will be in my heart...I love you until the end of time. 8❤️
The best version I've heard of this. There's so much dimension in his voice.
This cover blows the Archies version, out the water!!!
Archie's is good too...however, anything this man did blew the shingles off the roof.
WP and singers at his time set the pace of decades to come.... the beat is addictive and made generations to follow..........like sugar ....., addictive SP
Put on a decent pair of headphones on and experience music mixed in proper Stereo with proper separation.
So like lounge singers calming down little richard music, this was like soul-ifying one of the bubblegummiest songs ever written.
Teenie bopper version was great but Pickett added sex appeal that attracted a more mature audience.

I loved original teeny bopper version. Pickett gave it some sex appeal for the mature audience. Great job.

*Great cover*
Totally makes this his own. A man singing a man's song. Solid arrangement. Pickett at his best.
Mark, Amen to that.
I like both versions? Archies versions as a kid made you think about the girl ,and Wilson Picketts version make want to run home to your Wife, and dance
you sure you mean to say "dance" :)
@Mark Lol.
@Mark Funny!
Spot on.
you have to be white to like the archie,s version and i can understand that but this is a black man singing this so we black people like this better, archies song don,t have the soul. can you dig it. We got SOUL.
Almost as good as the original
Fuistes entre los tuyos de los mejores. From Madrid España Eddy Nova.
I enjoy the music and the lyrics of that great singer who is Wilso Pickett.
Man, the original riff really makes the song
Like the Archies also !
Just found out this morning about Mussel Shoals Studios been up there twice n never knew DAMM It 😜✌🏻️👏🏻👏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Stop voting for democrats.
Take a sad song and make it better.
the original Ron Dante and the archies is the first, the best and only version. it's not a soul, r&b song it's a pop song plain and simple. this version is nothing compared to the number one 1969 hit version, I'm sorry but it's true.
Gary Pamatat -- Yes you are 100% correct, the Archie's version with Ron Dante on lead vocals is *much* better than Wilson Pickett's version, absolutely no comparison at all! Pickett's cover version is not even remotely in the same league as the original Archie's version!
thats crazy bubble gum pop versus one of the great soul singers??? beer hits gary pamatat wtf!!!!!!!!!!
Man, what is wrong with these people? Wilson ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
James Fisher I know
Both versions are great. The people hating on this version must be huffing car exhaust fumes or something.
I love Wilson Pickett, but I wish he would have brought the sense of urgency and even danger that made 'Midnight Hour' so compelling. The Wrecking Crew version has more life and teenage lust in it to my ears. Just listen to it, forget it's from a cartoon.
Talk about making a silk purse out of a sow's ear!
best version ever
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a 72yo Aussie fan.
GOD Wilson's voice really grabs you & shakes you right up.
My best song forever...............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Archies brought me here..God Bless you Wilson xx
I really like this version, but, the Archies version was #1 when I was in second grade. I love theirs by far.
Yech . I grew up reading the Archie comic and was greatly disappointed in the voices attached to each character in the cartoon. So I hated the song in the cartoon too.
great! did not know he sang it.
+charles houser I remember hearing his version years ago, but I"d totally forgotten about it 'til they used it "The Ice Storm".
He took dreck and made it art.
I love listening to oldies but I must apologize, the Bee Movie killed this song for me.
Righ-teous.
This totally kills the Archies original, the voice, music, and emotion are much better.
Agreed ! Ditto his version of the Beatles - Hey Jude
the wicked pickett!!
I like both versions, but I like this one more. His voice just adds something that the original didn't have. I also think this one might be easier to dance to, especially with a partner, as you can just hold them close and groove to it.

I remember when talented artists would record their own version of great songs. Wilson Picket took this song and ran with it, Earth Wind and Fire did it with "Got To Get You Into My Life" and made it even better. The days of complimenting current artists with your equally, even better, version are long gone.
EWF version better than the original? (shuts window)
Better? No. Different? Yes. As to covering other artists, I agree. No one wants to take a chance (can you say little or no talent) Aretha did some covers a couple of years ago and especially killed "Rolling in the Deep"
When songwriters ruled the roost there could be two or more versions of the same song making 'original' debatable.
Have to agree with you. I'm a huge Beatles fan but there is no shame in a band doing a better cover than the original. (Technology changed also in the many years difference in the various recordings). Look at Deep Purple's Hush vs Billy Joe Royal's version, or Vanilla Fudge's version of You Keep Me Hangin' On vs The Supremes. Covers don't diminish or even compete with the original records, they glorify them. Fans are going to choose which version they like the best, but good covers are going to both sound great. If they get the emotional content of the song across, I say they did a good to great job. Look a Vanilla Fudge's version of Eleanor Rigby. IMHO it's not as wonderful as the Beatles' version, but it actually gets a real emotional quality that the original doesn't. Both are great versions. PS Paul McCartney got the rights back this week to most of his Beatles tunes that Michael Jackson had purchased years ago. Songwriters love to have their tunes done by other artists. Yesterday is the most recorded song in modern history. Most of the versions don't hold a candle to the original, but Paul is laughing all the way to the bank. And God bless him for that.
OH, YEAH !!
love this song a classic from wilson pickett. and i love the archies version. there is a lady i want and she got me wanting her.
Better than the original for sure
Wilson Pickett could sing MMM Bop by Hanson and it would sound good.
But that is actually a great song too! >=(
Missed opportunities, man...
wawwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Oh, so sexy
Marilou is my Sugar.
I love all his songs
Quelle belle chanson. Ca me rappelles beaucoup de souvenirs d'enfance.
You got me-hee-eee wantin' yoo.
What year was that song from? That was an interesting version.
hackdown3 It was released in 1970. Reached #25 on the charts. Ron Dante liked this version because it reached an different audience. The producers wanted to add some background singers but I suppose Atlantic wanted to get this single out in a hurry.
thats true too, but the way they word it is funny ;-)
YYEEAAH !!!
OH SUGAR-HONEY......... Fan-Fantastic
don't downplay the original like that. to each his own. both are awesome! :)
But it sucks compared to the revised version, so!
The best... thanks for link
fuck off
you are so right, Wilson got down and put the soul in it!!!
I love this song
Man, how I wish you could come home to sing to the up coming singers in pa Z...
ア-千-ズの曲よりウイルソンピケットの方が渋みがありますね。
What an amazing vocalist Wilson was.
Such an incredible voice & presentation!
One of the very best of all times!
FANTASTIC!!
This shows how musicians think differently from music journalists who put down the song as "bubblegum" (whatever that may mean). The song is the great song it is, all the more remarkable for his apparent simplicity both as to lyrics and tune. I like this version, though I can't substitute the original version in my mind.
I agree 100&.
God,the negro singers sure can put it over most white singers so far as soul.
Amazing sounds & very enjoyable.
