Pickett, Wilson - It's Too Late Lyrics
It's too late (too late, too late)
Said it's too late, yes it is (too late)
My love is gone away to stay (too late)
Don't you know it's too late now
Listen, children, I wanna tell you this
It's too late to cry now (too late to cry)
My love is gone away, yes she has (too late)
Wo wo (too late) she has (too late)
[spoken:]
I just guess that you're wonderin' why I always sing a sad song
But you see, I had a woman who was very good to me
And I can remember the times she used to sit down and tell me these words:
Said, 'Pickett, I want you to know I love you from the bottom of my heart
And whatever you need, I don't want you to go to your mother, your father,
I'll be a leadin' pull when you're fallin' down
When all your money's gone, I want you to know you can count on me'
But I didn't appreciate that woman then
You know what? I had to run and chase after every little girl around town
So finally one day I got home and I found my little girl gone
And people, you know it hurt me so bad (ha ha) I had to hang my little head And cry
Then I began to read the letter she left for me layin' there; it read like this, children
It's too late, she's gone, oh (she's gone)
'It's too late I'm gone away' (she's gone)
Ah yeah (too late) don't you know it, children (too late)
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Say it one more time (too late) listen (too late)
I wanna hear you understand what I'm talkin' about (too late)
It's too late, she's gone, oh (she's gone)
'It's too late I'm gone away' (she's gone)
Ah yeah (too late) don't you know it, children (too late)
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Say it one more time (too late) listen (too late)
I wanna hear you understand what I'm talkin' about (too late)

One of his greatest songs of all time!
It still sounds great. When it came out it was in a class all to itself.
Never get tired of hearing these old songs. Music today can't touch these greats. Singing from the heart.
So true.
Wilson pickett is the greatest...
I would play this song when a certain woman that thought she had game.
I thought Stax, Alco and Atlantic was all of this soul Memphis label.
This predates the Atlantic era. In fact, he did some great work with the Falcons (Ohio Untouchables) out of Detroit before Atlantic as well. thx

Esta bonita canción la compuso WILSON PICKETT y la canto en el año 1963

Song about life, some of the best music of our time.
I was in the 7th grade when this song came out..................I still remember it today :-)
It's awesome!!
I Love this song, I was 19 years old when this song was out
I guess I was 17, never knew much about it. It wasnt played much...Wilson was unknown.
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a 73yo mad keen Aussie fan.
He was very popular in Australia earlier.
One of the very best Soul / R & B singers of all time.
What an extraordinary voice Wilson had.
This is an early recording. We didn't know the name Wilson Pickett, it was just a good song.
John Benn He was popular in the south years before he hit nationally. This was a top 10 pop hit where I grew up.
Prattville, Alabama
this song is deep.
Soul deep!! When it came out Wilson was an unknown. It wasn't played much being an unknown. I thought it was a group because they all melded together so well. Today it is a prime example why I say early 60s RnB was the best period.....SO creative....from James Brown, Motown, etc. They are well represented in my early uploads.
Wilson's first LP was on the Double-L label. I used to see them in used bins once in a while. Haven't seen one in a long time. Wish I'd grabbed one.
It may be on You Tube
I got all of them
Timeless!!!!
+Slimmy doll1 Perfection!!

Lloyd Price's label....
+srercrcr Lloyd Price and Harold Logan; L&L
Outstanding!
Yes sir! Keep in mind, the name Wilson Pickett didn't mean anything then. Just another guy cutting a record. If you were really RnB astute you might have recognized his voice from the Falcons-I Found A Love. I remember hearing it on our RnB station and loving it, but then hardly ever hearing it, but it always stayed in my mind as a song that raised the bar. One year later ('64) the American musical landscape was forever changed....the Supremes and Beatles had taken over the radio and the small label artists were facing extinction, unless they fled to Europe where they were appreciated. :)
I grew up in SF & the east bay and heard "I Found a Love" on KDIA. It sure blew everything else out of the water. I never realized that was Wicked Pickett. Went into the service in 62 and ended up stationed in Spain in 66. All the discoteques played lots of soul music so I was in heaven. Married an Englsh girl there and she started doing a radio show on the base AFRTS station, playing lots of soul and rock. It was the most popular show on base. Her favorite was Otis Redding. Those were the days my friend.
@Gene Fitch Yep, a unique time in history, NOT to be repeated. Here's to "Lucky 13, KDIA". Have you seen my video of Rosko their DJ? Just type KDIA Rosko and you'll be transported back to Dec '62....buckle up, Gene!!
