I like the Ventura Gin from that same year better than Riverport and can name a few others which I prefer to that one. Personally I think that jam is highly overrated.
i was @ Ventura. actually one of my all time fav shows, but personally that Gin doesnt really rank top tier. The show as a whole though is highly underated IMHO.
Basically its always a personal preference thing. Like i mentioned in another comment the 11-23-97 Gin is my all time fav, but the majority of my friends always say it was just a wank fest where i hear it more as pure hose. Thats the beauty of improv music. its always in the eye/ear of the beholder.

You're both right...I should have gone by myself, but I cannot drive and I'm 3 hours southeast of Alpharetta. And, GEORGIA SUCKS FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. No rail, no buses...this state sucks balls!!
Kevin Silvers 3hrs away and no transportation is a pretty difficult obstacle to overcome..but if it makes you feel any better I really wanted to go too but couldnt..I live in Ohio though
That sucks. I've never just like one genre. Jam bands are my favorite, but I'll listen to everything from Howlin Wolf to the Dead Kennedy's. My first phish show was on accident. That was 25 years ago. And I never looked back
