Phil Ochs - I Ain't Marching Anymore Lyrics

Oh, I marched to the battle of New Orleans
At the end of the early British wars
The young land started growing
The young blood started flowing
But I ain't a-marching anymore

Oh I killed my share of Injuns in a thousand different fights
I was there at the Little Big Horn
I heard many men a-lying
I saw many more a-dying
But I ain't a-marching anymore

It's always the old to lead us to the wars
Always the young to fall
Now look at what we've won with a saber and a gun
Tell me is it worth it all?

For I stole California from the Mexican land
Fought in the bloody Civil War
Yes, I even killed my brothers
And so many others
But I ain't a-marching anymore

For I marched to the battle of the German trench
In a war that was bound to end all wars
Oh I must have killed a million men
And now they want me back again
But I ain't a-marching anymore

It's always the old to lead us to the wars
Always the young to fall
Now look at what we've won with a saber and a gun
Tell me is it worth it all?

For I flew the final mission in the Japanese sky
Set off the mighty mushroom roar
But I saw the cities burnin'
And I knew that I was learnin'
That I ain't a-marching anymore

Now the labor leader's screamin' when they closed the missile plant
United Fruit screams at the Cuban shore
Call it peace or call it treason
Call it love or call it reason
But I ain't a-marching anymore
I ain't a-marching anymore

I am very much looking forward to Trump's assassination. I will go out and celebrate with a fellow liberal friend when some brave American assassinates that piece of pig excrement and rat vomit called Trump.

Beautifully put together and the song.......relevant today more than ever! So sad.

Today you would never hear the ephemeral, shallow, tripe of Lady Gaga ever sing something pertinent and political for her legions of fans that think this woman is an artist. No , this is an artist because the lyrics have meaning unlike Gaga's assembly line fluff pop music.

You clearly know piss all about Gaga and haven't bothered to listen thoughtfully to her music. Because if you did you would realize it's anything but fluff and wouldn't have launched your ill informed trashing of her music. There is considerable meaning and depth to many of her songs which she herself writes that haters like you are incapable of appreciating.

@easygordon Haha looks like Chris was little too quick to judge. Thanks for sharing this. I had no idea.

Are you aware of how much shitty pop music was produced by every generation? Stop yelling at clouds, old man.

    C.... G....

Chris Greene Not a huge fan of Lady Gaga, but I know her music has helped a huge number of LGBTQ people. If there was a YouTube during the 60s, we’d probably have comments calling this song shallow and trite too.

Somehow, it's still relevant. And sad.

    Somehow?

Nice work. A few images of the massive street protests leading up to the second invasion of Iraq would have been nice, but I get it -- it's a history piece. Still, nice vid!!

Someone else would have to write that part ... Phil died in 1976.
