Phair, Liz - Shatter Lyrics

I know that I don't always realize
How sleazy it is messing with these guys
But something about just being with you
Slapped me right in the face, nearly broke me in two
It's a mark I've taken heart
And I know I will carry it with me for a long, long time

I don't know if I could drive a car
Fast enough to get to where you are
Or wild enough not to miss the boat completely
Honey, I'm thinking maybe
You know, just maybe

I don't know if I could fly a plane
Well enough to tail spin out your name
Or high enough to lose control completely
Honey, I'm thinking maybe
You know, just maybe
Maybe

On the album version... the opening 2:30 (before Liz begins singing) is incredible... some of her very very best work and woefully under appreciated. The rest of it? Also fantastic.

So this sampled (is that the word) the Stones' Shattered. wow, I'm thinking Liz heard all of the Stones' album.

Sean Nessman Yes, she did. Are you just now making the connection between Exile In Guyville and Exile On Main Street? Sonically, stylistically, song sequence, style, etc. It’s all there...

The album Exile in Guyville is a take on Exile on Main Street.

Guyville is the only one of her albums that's not on YouTube. I think Matador removed it when they re-released it for the 20th anniversary. It's silly because most people who would have listened probably already own the album. But that's indie labels for ya. Same thing happened with Ani Difranco's music but they finally got smart and put it up because they realized it's the best way to attract new fans.
