Petra - Not Of This World Lyrics

We are pilgrims in a strange land
We are so far from our homeland
With each passing day it seems so clear
This world will never want us here
We're not welcome in this world of wrong
We are foreigners who don't belong

We are strangers, we are aliens
We are not of this world

We are envoys, we must tarry
With this message we must carry
There's so much to do before we leave
With so many more who may believe
Our mission here can never fail
And the gates of hell will not prevail

Jesus told us men would hate us
But we must be of good cheer
He has overcome this world of darkness
Soon we will depart from here

Lord How Many Tears I Have Shed To This Beautiful Song!!!! JESUS CHRIST IS KING!!!! From a 100 % US ARMY Disabled Veteran>> Reforming Christian!!! God Bless E-1!!!

I used to have such a deep love for GOD and His Kingdom back in the 90's but somehow I lost my way....the world and Christianity has melded together....I don't trust any ministries anymore these days except great teachings by Jacob Prasch and Josh from the Servus Christi channel...they expose more then just the money preachers and they help me to get my faith back again....GOD used Petra to minister to me when I got saved in October of1990 and it's been a hard rough battle since then....I really want to know the real God of The Bible and the reality of being born again....i'm a great example that once saved always saved and easy believism (Sp) are lies from hell!!!.....do not ever and I mean never turn away or give up on JESUS /YESHUA He is our only hope in an age of apostasy and heresy...we are living in the last days and I see it all around me....the love of many has waxed cold.

OSAS is true. Jesus said his sheep will never perish. Period.

And Petra are not of God. Anything with a backbeat is antichrist

Just have to say this band was in my life when my mum died in the mid 80s I was just a young kid! I was lost I had no parents and the voices would say kill your self or od! and this music would resonate in my mind!!! I hear these songs and I just fall in thanks to the lord! for I came out of the black cloud and followed his light! Thank you Creator and you guys!

    g.... c....

this band is Antichrist due to having a backbeat

The problem with this song is that Christians aren't being persecuted and are not "aliens" in this country. Exactly the opposite! They want to "christianise" this country and deny other's rights. You "christians" consume goods and services as US citizens, then cry about how you are being persecuted! A story of your own making because what's happening isn't lining up with what your bible says, so you MAKE it happen!

Your bible doesn't tell you to christianise the world but you try anyway, then scream that Muslims are trying to take over the world!

    WAKE UP!!!!

    T.... C....

What are you talking about stupid

Classic song. Reminds me of when I was a new Christian. I was a young teenager in the early 1980s at the time. Petra and Amy Grant were popular at the time. Petra albums that I had then were "More Power to Ya" and this "Not of This World." Amy Grant albums I had were "Never Alone" and "Age to Age." This Petra song and Amy Grant's "Family" were some of my favorite Christian songs then. It's great to hear this Petra song again. Priceless.

I haven't heard this song since the eighties it brought back some great memories as a young man serving the Lord. I share this song and the whole tape with my brothers in Christ. They loved the tape as well. Thanks Petra for encouraging me in my early years in CHRIST. Your music and messages has touched my life so very much. God certainly have rewards for your labor. Love you brothers God Bless your souls. We are not of this world.

We are at the door step of our evacuation from this world!
    Hallelujah our savior is coming!!!

    M.... C....

Monica Czyzewski that’s not biblical and that’s not what Jesus taught. It’s not “evacuation” but “resurrection and new creation” is the Christian hope. Read Isiah 65:17-24 and Revelation 21 & 22

    M.... C....

@justmcclend25 if you read Revelation it talks of destruction and recreation, if I were me, which I am, I would want to evacuate.

I came to Christ Aug 9th, 1977 (40 years in Christ! & still growing!). I was convinced that I was now "doomed" to a life of listening to choir music & southern gospel quartets (God has since brought me to love both!)... THANKFULLY, I was introduced to "Love Song", "Resurrection Band" "Randy Stonehill", "2nd Chapter of Acts", "Phil Kaeggy", and of course "Petra"! This song has always been able to minister to my heart (praise God!)! It's such a shame that so much ministry (through song) has gone out of print! If anyone knows od a good source, please contact me at: [email protected]. Thanks & God bless.

They only play the new songs on KLove so sad Gods word in songs never grow old . Wish I could share all these songs for everyone . 60 yrs old to late .

  37. j.... ....

One of the best in Christian music ever.

  38. B.... L....

Petra was the band I grew up on in the early 1980'swhen I was in high school as w Rachel and cassie at Columbine we were mocked and made fun of cause we were Christian but Bob Harmon told me at agape 82 in Greenville il that Christian means Christ like the other great gospel artist of the same period was Keith green and Randy matthews

  39. E.... H....

my favorite as a teen. I used to listen to my brother's album all the time. I'm so glad I did get to here them at Harvest Festival in Colorado, 2010. I miss their class and quality.

  40. D.... S....

I met the Lord in 1982, and as a former heavy metal musician bands like Petra helped me so much express my new Faith.

    D.... S....

Yeah. that's beautiful. Just don't sell out or sign on with Baphomet. or Lucifer.
If your a musician then you must know how it is. how their out to sign up musicians in promise of fame and wealth.

I wonder if anyone knows or has ever discovered .. whats up with that sign off .. sell out one''s soul .. Why the soul? And how much is a soul actually worth?
And what does the devil need from human souls .. exactly ? hmmm. Isn't that something.

  41. J.... P....

loved this song as a kid ,and I love it still..

  42. b.... ....

This song takes me back to my childhood. We used to hear this song on the local Christian station KBIQ out of Seattle, Washington.  Of course, we also heard The Coloring Song, More Power To Ya, and sometimes Grave Robber and Road to Zion.

  43. S.... G....

In 1985 I got to see Petra in Clear Lake Iowa at on of the last concerts Greg Volz played before he went solo. The next year I got to see Petra in Minneapolis when John Schlitt first played with them. That was an awesome concert with DeGarmo & Key. That was the first time seeing them live. Wow.

  44. W.... D....

WOW Great song!Petra Glory to God In The Highest.

  45. P.... ....

    Wow 😀

  46. B.... H....

Wow. So glad I thought to search for this. I remember when I was in my early 20's and Amy Grant and Petra were my go-to Christian bands. How great to be back and to be able to let their work wash over me. Thanks to whoever posted this! God bless you.

    B.... H....

I love Petra! I'll never forget the first time I heard The Coloring Song for the first time! awesome!

    B.... H....

Those two artists/bands sums up the majority of Christian music my mother would listen to. I still listen to both today.

  47. T.... I....

Nothing can I compare to Petra of the 80's. I have never found its equal.

  48. D.... K....

First Christian song I ever heard, as a non-believer. 1983 I'm guessing. Changed me...looked to bible for answers and found Jesus was the answer.

God bless these guys, mylon, servant, Steve camp/Rick cua/rob Frazier, whiteheart, plumb/tiff, jars, harvest, Amy grant, mws, d&k, Geoff Moore...for having an impact on me as a young Christian with their concerts and having met a few of them.

    D.... K....

    Hallelujah!

  49. V.... R....

I gave my life to the Lord in March of 1981. And around that time I heard this song on the radio and broke the door down trying to find it because it was such a powerful gospel message in song. I also saw Petra in concert in the DC area in the early 80's. They were sensational musicians full of the Holy Spirit in song and ministry. I was crying like a baby and in a daze after they performed. They truly magnified God with powerful anointed music to His Glory!

A posting and then a series of thoughts brought to remembrance this very awesome song and the deep truth contained therein ;)

  54. g.... ....

Petra's classic songs had an impact on my family in the early 80s... and I'll always remember attending their concert with my Dad, who being a bit unsure of what he was about to hear from a "rock" group, quickly became a huge fan, especially appreciating the message brought forth on stage by Greg X. Volz.

    g.... ....

I too saw this band with my dad 🥰🙏😇

  55. A.... X....

Im not even christian and I love this song. Such a beautiful melody.

I speak from my own insights. I follow no myths of Shiva. I don't need a myth of Shiva anymore than I need a biography of my mother. I experience him directly.

    A.... X....

you, on the other hand, have never experienced God outside of a narrow evangelical dogma, so you create an image of him in your head based on someones words, I have no such image of Shiva. I place no boxes on him, and laugh at anyone who does.

@Buddha At The Bus Stop Guess you werent touched by God

    A.... X....

@Buddha At The Bus Stop wishing you the best, my son is atheist and I am Christian. I love my son unconditionally and trust God to reveal himself to him in the right time. Only one thing to say: if a Christian left a bad taste in your mouth at some point? I sincerely apologize, because it happens all to often. Blessings to you as you walk down life's journey 😊

About 30 years ago an insurance salesman came to our door (in Mtn. View, Ca.) and when he found out we were new Christians, he gave us the cassette tape right out of his car tape deck! The album, and this song in particular, became one of our all-time favorites! God is good!

kimenlo : Beautiful! I have a sort of simular Petra story: around 15 years ago i was hitchhiking in November from The Netherlands to a friend in North-Norway when i was sitting mentally and emotionally burdened up, cold (it was far below zero), half sick, half depressed (not because of traveling, i loved hitchhiking) on the cementfloor of a gasstation in the south of Norway. I felt totally hopeless about my life and future and walked to a car to ask for a ride. To my surprise the father and 2 sons in the car were listening to Petra, a band i listened to since my childhood. The father drove me to the airport of Oslo and paid a plane-ticket for me to the north (Trømso) without asking for it or talking about it. I saw this as a sign from God that He really cared for me, 'cause just before i walked to that car i cried out to God and Norway is far from a Christian country, so i really don't believe this was an accident. It was meaning a lot to me that this guy cared so much about a stranger and extra much 'cause my own father never cared for me and even worser than that.. the quiet love of this man gave me so much comfort. So when you are this man (i remember a part of your name was Åre and 1 of your sons was named Alexander).. i never forgot you and i'm still grateful for what you and God did for me ❤

  63. J.... M....

Petra...they were out of this world...thanks for posting!
