Petra - All Over Me Lyrics

All over me, all over me
I've got the blood of an innocent man
All over me

He never did anything to hurt anyone
But He said something bout being God's own Son
Some people believed Him, some people received Him
Some people wouldn't stop till they saw Him die

Like an innocent lamb He was taken away
He never opened His mouth He had nothing to say
He just let them accuse Him, He just let them abuse Him
And the people wouldn't stop till they saw Him die

They nailed His hands and His feet to the wood
At the foot of His cross all His enemies stood
He said "Father forgive them" - He gave them all He could give them
Then He gave up His life and they watched Him die

They laid His body in a rich man's tomb
But He rose from the dead and He's coming back soon
You can choose to believe it, you can choose to receive it
You can choose to believe that He died over you

    - Isaiah 53:7 -   He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth.

    - Luke 23:34 -   Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

I've got the blood of Jesus' hands all over me.

what a powerful song, if you dont get chills after hearing this song, get on your knees and thank god for sending his son to be slaughtered for our souls. he knew us before we were born. that is truth

  16. J.... G....

    THIS IS A REAL BANNER!!!

  17. J.... S....

This song is really difficult to play and make it go somewhere dynamically because it plods along in a rather awkward manner. Drums should have subdivided the beat more, to keep it flowing. It drags at 2:44. Oh well. Can't redo it now. Everyone did an outstanding job on this tune, especially Greg X.

I love the big fat juicy Hammond #7 flat 9 on the flat 2 chord at 4:18.

    J.... S....

+J Slick I love that same chord and series that you did right around that point too. You did a fine job building after that point too.

    J.... S....

Actually I liked the plodding on purpose: One layer on top of another, like the blood of an innocent Man.

I saw this performed in concert at six flags St. Louis 1984 in the pouring rain. Watching Greg up there soaking wet pouring his heart out with these lyrics was the most moving concert experience I ever had.

  18. b.... ....

Saw them in concert in Fort Wayne in '74 after the release of their first album on Myrhh (Twin lead guitar interplay era) Then I saw them at Bowdoin College in 1984 doing the whole "Not of This World" album. It was unbelievably good and power packed! Fortunately, they also did some of these great cuts from "More Power To Ya".

  19. b.... ....

Now listen to him sing Judas' Kiss...

    b.... ....

Oh. Oh my that's sad. Good call

Sounds like a Bob Hartman song. Must be. Very well written and very well connected. Grabs me by the heart and brings tears to my eyes. Thank you.

  27. m.... ....

I remember where I was when I heard this song for the first time. It brought me to my knees. I cried. I was a music major at a Christian college, and hadn't heard any Christian rock. It was like finding a door in your home that you never knew was there and finding room after room of awesome-ness and riches. Thank you from a very grateful fan. (I just bought the album on itunes and and am making sure my 16yr old has a copy on his phone.)

  28. j.... J....

    It's RHYME TIME
Take the FLOCK and ROCK the BLOCK
    Spell DEVIL backwards - LIVED
Hold TIGHT to whats RIGHT so LONG to whats WRONG
Who's the MOST of the MOST from COAST to COAST is the HOLY GHOST
There's No HOPE in DOPE or The POPE nor Satan's Hanging ROPE
HIGH-way 2 Hell or FREE-way 2 Heaven! Paid in FULL
w/Christ, An ENDLESS HOPE w/out Christ a hopeless END
Alright, I'm in the LIGHT Heavens Outta SIGHT w/No More NIGHT So Stop the FIGHT as You MIGHT see that BRIGHT WHITE LIGHT

@gingervytis That was from the War &Rememberance box set. I remember that. : ))

This is a another classic rock jewel! Great job Petra!

  35. 7.... R....

This band truly had the word of God in their lyrics. I love this band, wish they were still making music.

  36. g.... ....

True it is. I was there. Not important.

  37. b.... ....

The Christian metal band Die Happy (Vengeance Rising without Roger Martinez) did a cover of this song on their live EP.

  38. D.... A....

Such an amazing vocalist that Greg Volz!

  39. R.... ....

Between you and gingervytis, I don't know who knows about Petra more lol.

  40. R.... ....

Had that line been left in, it would have been hilarious.

  41. g.... ....

The opening track, Stand Up, had a funny thing that was not included in the mix. During the countdown, "one, two, three, four", Mark Kelley suddenly blurted out: "Whoa! Look at this scorpion!" It was crawling along a hand rail right next to where he was standing in the studio. (JSlick Keyboards and promulgator of pranks, 1979 - 1984).

  42. g.... ....

We cut that tune in a studio way out in the desert outside of Uvalde, Texas. There were all sorts of wild creatures around, and the building literally had a few scorpions *inside* and I caught a bat in the control room one night.
    (John M. Slick Keyboards 1979-1984)
