Peter, Paul And Mary - Too Much Of Nothing Lyrics
Too much of nothin' can make a man feel ill at ease
One man's temper might rise, while the other man's temper might freeze.
In the days of long confessions, we can not mock a soul
When there's too much of nothin', no one has control.
Send them all my salary, on the waters of oblivion.
Too much of nothin' can make a man abuse a king
He can walk the streets and boast like most but he don't know a thing.
It's all been done before, it's all been written in the book.
But when it's too much of nothin', nobody should look.
Say hello to Valerie, say hello to Marion,
Send them all my salary, on the waters of oblivion.
It can cause some man to sleep on nails, another man to eat fire.
Everybody's doin' somethin', I heard it in a dream
But when it's too much of nothin', it just makes a fella mean.
Say hello to Valerie, say hello to Marion,
Send them all my salary, on the waters of oblivion.

Love their matured funky sound.
Phenomenal track.

Parody of Too Much of Nothing for "the view"
Too much Joy Behar
can make a wise man play the fool
make a teetotaler start to drinking
a preacher break the Golden rule
In this time of acrimony
when hostility takes its toll
well too much Joy Behar
can make a soul man lose his soul
Say hello to Megan McCain
She gives "The View" of the Right
If Megan wasn't on the show
Joy would have no one to fight
Too much of Whoopi
can make a singer stop his song
make a baker stop his baking
make a right man think he's wrong
If you think it's time for traveling
better hurry up and leave today
'cos too much of Whoopi
makes a traveling man want to stay
Say hello to Megan McCain
she's gracious and so very kind
If Megan wasn't on the show
The View would make me lose my mind
Too much Navarro
has made husbands leave their wives
made students afraid at college
made Aichmophobiacs pick up knives
If you get to work by subway
and you think your job is great
too much Ana Navarro
will make the subway system late
Say good bye to Megan McCain
She won't last long on this show
the other View gals don't like her views
so Megan soon will have to go
Dear Barbara Walters
Why did you go ?
Your views were lame some were insane
but I miss you on the show
In this time of Joy and Whoopi
where everyone is a political hack
Dear Barbara Waah Waah
I wish that you'd come back
Tohu and Bohu, nothingness as in Sartres Works
They ruined the chorus
Too much of nothing makes a fellow mean.
Too much of Trump
American musical product at its peak: Great songwriting, great performance, great production.
Dylan in his prime, always three levels above any other songwriter. Beautiful, evocative melody with lyrics that you understand but can't quite explain. He probably did write it in 15 minutes.
Elliott Smith gives him a run for his money!
I love Peter and I love Paul and I really miss Mary! Please keep singin!
favorite recording of a great song; really beautiful
( original comment deleted 'cause methinks I were goofily enhanced at that time )
WOW!!! I mus-ta been in mood if I wrote that.
I lovey dovey "Too Much Of Nothing" and it IS on my MP3 Player as is PP&M's "Rollin' Home" of course when I sing it I change 'rolling home' to 'rolling on.' I must surmise that I meant that comment for some other video and simply pushed the wrong button, IDK. Did ya ever see the YouTube vid of PP&M in Australia, on TV, singin' "When The Ship Comes In" which was....brought to you by...BP Petroleum...I like to sing.....'when the slick comes in.'
If he'd had a hammer...that personality is "Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao and Ayatollah" personified...smart asses abound and some are glib...and all consider themselves wonderful.
No disrespect intended, ardalla535, but rhyming "Marian" with "oblivion" is a quite creative half-rhyme. The original word was 'Vivian", and I don't know why they changed it. But half rhyming (the literary term) is an art in itself.
Open and look into your dictionary and then think on it just a little bit more.
..send them all my salary, cook it in a frying pan. --oblivion is a tad to much of a downer, too blue for blues.
often wondered about that myself, heard the p p&m first and thought why is it not v as that rhymes better, 3 v's ect. all this listening to my big sisters records in the mid 60's and here lately i find out old bob did write it out as vivian, wow!!!!!!!!!
As pronounced on the west coast, Marian and Oblivion are an exact rhyme, both ending with a schwa. This may not hold true on the east coast...
Dylan's version actually was, "Say hello to Valerie/Say hello to Vivian/Send them all my salary/On the waters of oblivion. The group change the lyrics which displeased him to no end.
yea I love the chorus, it's actually the way I remember the tune. Randomly i'l have these songs come into my head and this one the I can pick out the chorus like a sore thumb.
Take into consideration the copyright law...changing one thing allows a "cover" without having to pay copyright fees! And Dylan is much over-rated...money is the distress he felt, not artistic license
that's not true. old songs get tweaked all the time and the songwriter still gets his royalties.
This was my sister's favorite son. Her name is Marian.
The Real Problem.
PP&M could sing anything and make it wonderful
good lyrics from dylan. chorus is pretty bad; rhyming marian with oblivion just shows dylan didn't much care about this song. probably wrote it in 15 mins
Yes and Valerie and Vivian were TS Eliot's wives. So Vivian most likely wasn't random
could you give us some samples of music, rhymes and chorus you created?
Everybody's a critic. Pffff.
maybe but I wouldn't try to out think the composer ....
Wonderful tune!
