Peter, Paul And Mary - Father's House Lyrics
The way to my father's house when I was just a boy
Lay through fields of innocence near bubbling springs of joy
And when I'd lay me down to sleep
I'd pray the lord my soul to keep
The road was never very steep
The way to my father's house when I turned seventeen
Wandered through inviting hills beside a tumbling stream
Sometimes in prayer upon my knees,
I would feel a distant breeze
The road was winding now through trees
On the way to my father's house.
The way to my father's house at the age of twenty-nine
Led over a mountain that I would seldom climb
And then one morning he was there,
On the way to my father's house
And glory, what a refreshing story
I was so blind before he opened my eyes restoring me to
The way to my father's house at the age of thirty-one
Was a ride on a rainbow my new life had begun
And every evening I could look through the pages of his book
And recognize the paths I took on the way, on the way...
I go to my father's house in these troubled days
The spirit is moving in mysterious ways
Reminded when old doubts appear
That perfect love casts out all fear
In thanks I tend the garden here, on the way,
On the way
On the way to my father's house

Peter, Paul And Mary Father's House Comments
May God bless you, we all know that we must leave this tent that we live in, but I pray the Lord even no would give you more years and that Jesus Christ be glorified in your life more now than at the beginning.
The Lord has certainly blessed you through the years and blessed Millions because of your songs. I was just wondering when the song, where have all the flowers gone, wondering if it was related to or influenced by The Book of Ecclesiastes?
Oh, the Glory! We can share it
This song is actually a-capella.
NICE EXIT SONG FOR THE FINAL SET ?
I found this on a Stookey CD tweny or so years ago at a (then) record store that was closing, and got it for a dollar. It has been a comfort and a blessing, and made even better by the visuals.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I have done this song when giving my witness for about twenty years, and it reduces me to tears of joy every time. May many lost souls be blessed by this!
overall nice visual interpretation - you pretty much 'got' it. but detail, detail, detail: 'innocence' is misspelled in the first verse + lyric says 'and when i'd lay me down to sleep' is not in present tense. you hereby have permission to post. noel
Thank you so much. I agree detail is everything. I appreciate your comments.
thanks for posting this song! I searched it for years and I coudnt find it! :)
