Peter Hollens - Into The West Lyrics
Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You've come to journey's end
Sleep now
They are calling
From across the distant shore
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping
What can you see
On the horizon?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home
And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass
Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time
Don't say: "We have come now to the end"
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again
And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping
What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home
And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West

Peter Hollens Into The West Comments
I'm very sick right now and this song brings me back to the light everytime thank you Peter
Still love this song. We just lost a dear friend and this popped up on my feed and hit home. I'm sitting here bawling my eyes out.
Peter Hollens, I've been following you for a long time and I actually realized just the other day that I have been following you longer than I thought. I've been a fan of on the rocks for a long time. It was funny I was re-watching one of the videos, and I saw your face and was like holy crap that the young Peter Hollens! Love your music man sing to the song constantly.
I am a HUGE fan of lord of the rings, I have every movie in the series along with the first hobbit movie on dvd
He is not human. He has elven blood actually. :D
Beautiful. Marvelous. Divine. You are very, very amazing at singing mate. Job damn well done.
I think this can also be a lullaby
RIP Christopher Tolkien.
Rest in peace Christopher Tolkien
R.I.P Christopher Tolkien 💔
Anyone here after Christopher Tolkien passed away?
Rest In Peace, Christopher Tolkien.
Lay down,
Your sweet and weary head.
Night is falling,
you've come to journey's end
Sleep now,
Dream of the ones who came before.
They are calling,
From across the distant shores.
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see,
All of your tears will pass away.
Safe in my arms,
You're only sleeping.
What can you see? (Catches your eye)
On the horizon.
Why do the white gulls call? (why do they call?)
Across the sea (oceans away)
A pale moon rises.
The ships have come,
To carry you home (They've come to carry you home)
All will turn,
To silver glass
A light on the water,
All souls pass.
Hope fades,
Into the world of night.
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time.
Don't say
We've have come now, to the end.
White shores are calling.
You and I will meet again,
And you'll be here in my arms.
Just sleeping
What can you see?
(Catches your eye)
On the horizon
Why do the white gulls call?
(Why do they call?)
Across the sea,
(oceans away)
A pale moon rises.
The ships have come,
To carry you home.
And all will turn,
To Silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass,
Into the West.
Very good. But I prefer Annie Lennox singing this because it's quiet and intimate.
Love this song, it goes to my soul 🖖🏻👍🏻. Whish i get the Songtext and partiture to try with our male choir
“I think I’m quite ready for another adventure...” - Bilbo Baggins
In One word ....brilliant
excellent !!! as always ! and your little boy is adorable :)
So overdone. :(
recently got new headphones
im hearing a second voice and its really low
Baritone voice? :)
He's good, I'd say Annie Lennox.. just had a better voice for this type of song.
My funeral song has been chosen! This is the way!
Lets talk. Armagh...
I've come accross your LOTR videos recently and this is just perfection. Outstanding! I also love your Last Goodbye one too!
I love to sing this song every chance I get, it is an amazing song. This song makes me sound and feel like a real elf. Peter Hollens could just as easily pass for an elf with his voice. Long live the elves of Middle Earth, may they be blessed, may they be full with days!
Dear Peter, I hope you get a chance to do a rendition of true colors from the trolls
Just came across your song...never heard of it before but i've never wept so hard at the BEAUTIFUL words and your MOVING vocals😭😭...i had to hug my fur-baby while weeping....i hate unlocking the tears as i keep emotions bottled tight but damnit your song forced them...if its alright with you, i'm gonna blame it on cutting onions!! Thank you kindly for posting!! 💙
Peter, thank you so much. A relative was declared cancer-free today and this song was the anthem to my rejoicing. Thanks!
My new ##########11111111111 favourite song. I cry every time. I can’t help it
Love this so much but, uh. "All of your TEARS will pass away". Still amazing, I can live with it.
This song is more than just the journey that souls take to the West. This song represents Tolkien and his beliefs, he made these books containing the religions of the world. I couldn't think of a better song to represent Mr. Tolkien. May he rest in peace. Thank you, Peter Hollens, for bringing this song to life in a way that undoubtedly would please Mr. Tolkien.
i love him <3 the best song :)
The first time I listened to this song, I cried. It reminded me of my father figure who passed away almost a year ago come December. I miss him so much. He means so much to me, he was more of a father to me than my own flesh-and-blood dad. The "You and I will meet again", along with your vocals, really tugged at my heart. Peter, if I ever meet you one day, I'll give you the biggest hug ever. Your songs are one of the few things that help me overcome my grief. Thank you for that ❤️ thank you for helping others through tough times with your songs.
Amazing video, powerful pich range, magical background, mesmerizing! Thank you so much for this, shared for sure!
Ricordi
You did a great job with this song Peter! Thank you! :) <3
Peter Hollens... Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent by honoring the greatest story ever told!!!! You are amazing and "may your memory never fade"!!!! (That's the Hobbit farewell by the way)
i am amazed by this😍😍😍
2019 anyone?
STILL CRYING 5 YEARS LATER
I just want to thank you for sharing your wonderful voice and your musical creativity. Very much appreciated by this music lover.
Never change !!!!!
Talent dans le dico = PITER HOLLENS !!!!!!!!!
It’s been two years since my grandfather passed and this song helps a bit
2019 any one
I love the setting you chose to film this video in!! It's perfect for the song.
This song hits me home this and a song by Linkin Park are from my childhood the earliest songs I heard I know them almost by heart despite not hearing many years they remind me of my childhood and all the good times I had of being innocent and free of lasting pain so thank you
For those who want to song along with him:

Thanks, but captions.
I wished this song for the funneral for my grandma.... i thougt, this song will never play... but in the end...everyone in that room hear that amazing song, everyone was crying.... Grandma, i miss u so much! I love u so much! at the 7.11 i will visit u again... i have to tell u so much... I'm so sorry :(
I'd appreciate the original song more, cauze this song is especially suit for female singers...Male singers singing this song automatically gets downgraded in my heart.
Don't get me wrong, I do like Peter Hollens' other recomposed song, especially those with beautiful choirs or game ost, but this one just don't feel right for a male singer....
You actually bring tears to my eyes, so full of soul x
I must have listened to this song over a hundred times. So melodic and haunting. Thank you Peter for singing this I listen to you when I’m feeling depressed and I always feel better.
Thank you
I bid you all a very fond farewell
This song reminds me so much of my 2yr old son who now resides with his Lord. I can't believe it's been 2 years since you left us, baby boy. One day Daddy and Mummy will see you again and hold you in an eternal embrace. Until then, fly high my sweet angel.
That's a nice overcoat
I'm on my misses acct but I'm sure you are to busy to read these anyway lol. But I'm a disabled veteran and ironically live in Oregon just like you. This rendition of this song has pulled on my heart so much I have shared it with my entire unit and I hope if for nothing mor than you get to read a thank you that is true and honestly heartfelt that you know I appreciate your songs and this one has pulled on my heart so much that I took the time to reach out and let you know how much it meant. Songs about loss and making it home mean so much tona soldier that sometimes the song is all that lets us get up one more time to see and fight one more day. I appreciate all of your music but things like this just feel like they change my world as I hope everyday that what I habe done has made your life at least a little better. -Brian
Damn, I need a cigarette, that was .. I feel like something's changed in my mind.
I absolutely ADORE this song, but I listen to it on Spotify and it seems like there's an error right now? Whenever I choose this song on Spotify, Misty Mountains plays instead. It's like the audio under the song name has been swapped :o I really hope this can be fixed soon, so I can listen to it offline again! 😄💛
Maravilhoso!
@PeterHollens - Not sure how else to notify you, but wanted to let you know that your track "Into the West" on Spotify mistakenly plays the audio of "Misty Mountains."
lol, yikes
u have pretty eyes
My mom passed away after her long fight against cancer this last Sunday and this song is going to be sung at her funeral tomorrow. Thank you Peter, for such a beautiful rendition of this song.
Beautiful.
very very cool
I have a problem with this song in Spotify! When I play it, the song played is Misty Mountain! Not this one🥺😭! Do you know what’s happening? Thanks!
Sofia G. Ropero,
Me too!! I hope it get fixed
Holy crap I thought I was the only one! It sucks. I listen to this to help me relax so I can sleep and it is super frustrating!
Same thing happens to me
how did I not know this until now. it's awesome. it's perfect. wow.
Into LoTR the Peter West Hollens?
When trying to buy this song on Amazon or downloading/streaming it on Spotify it plays "Misty Mountains". Can this be rectified as I would really like to purchase this song!
5 years and counting...
Mediocre in comparison to most women, but excellent for man! Take this as a compliment :)
I hate to sound morbid but I deffo want this played at my funeral ... it’s so sad but comforting and hopeful at the same time...’why do you weep, what are those tears upon your face, soon you will see, all your fears will pass away safe my arms’..... stunning lyrics. 😭
man it was so good until i noticed the terrible parallel octaves. really ruined it
sounds so weird and amateurish
See you on the other side grandad
At first, I thought there was music because I heard his voice. (No offense, Peter)
LOTR should replace the bible
I'm just here cause I felt like making myself cry. It's been too long since the last time I cried.
This brings peace to my soul🎵😌🍀
I’ll stick with Annie Lennox, but thanks for trying.
Listening to this song after a friend passed away, and I have to thank you for this song - helping me to deal with this grief.
is 2019 and i just cant stop my tears every time i listen to this
Beautiful! My favourite song from lotr <3
WOW WHAT AN AWESOME VERSION U HAVE DONE HERE PETER, THANKS....Z.....
The question is: How did he manage to power the microphone in a forrest?🤔
Magic....
I don’t care what anyone says. This song is actually about coming to America.
This will be the last thing I hear before I die
This will be the song playing when it is my time to leave this earth.
I was always a fan of the LOTR story, characters, and music. I used to be kinda obsessed with movies and the soundtrack. This song sung by Annie Lennox always pulled at my heartstrings. While I will always love the original version, this is a good cover. Really good. Making me feel nostalgic. Very well done!
Because I have hope and I know people will find good in their hearts to help.

I still get goosebumps listening to this 🖤
I recently lost my can and this song has helped me get through it. Thank you for this beautiful song Peter. Rest in peace Charlotte, I'll see you again❤️
Absolutely stunning....
Reclinai
Vossas tenras e exaustas cabeças
Pois já se despenha a noite
E alcançastes o fim da jornada
Agora repousai
Para o além do qual
Ergue-se a alva lua
Vieram as naves levar-vos de regresso a casa
Todas elas hão de converter-se
Em vidro argento
Como d’um lume sobre as águas
Todas as almas fenecem
Mesmo a esperança se esvai
No tombar do universo noctívago
A atravessar o prisma das trevas
A que todos se tornarão
A beautiful song from an extraordinary movie ❤️ You are amazing Peter.
o cara é bom
Thanks for cover this song!
