Peter Gabriel - Lay Your Hands On Me Lyrics
Sat in the corner of the Garden Grill, with plastic flowers
on the window sil
No more miracles, loaves and fishes, been so busy with the
washing of the dishes
Reaction level's much too high - I can do without the stimuli
I'm living way beyond my ways and means, living in the
zone of the inbetweens
I can see the flashes on the frozen ocean, static charge of
the cold emotion
Watched on by the distant eyes - watched on by the silent
hidden spies
But still the warmth flows through me
And I sense you know me well
No luck, no golden chances
It's only common sense
There are no accidents around here
I am willing - lay your hands on me
I am ready - lay your hands on me
I believe - lay your hands on me, over me
Working in gardens, thornless roses, fat men play with their
garden hoses
Poolside laughter has a cynical bite, sausage speared by the
cocktail satellite
I walk away from from light and sound, down stairways
leading underground
But still the warmth flows through me
And I sense you know me well
It's only common sense
There are no accidents around here
I am willing - lay your hands on me
I am ready - lay your hands on me
I believe - lay your hands on me, over me
over me
Lay your hands on me
Lay your hands on me
Lay your hands on me, over me

Peter Gabriel Lay Your Hands On Me Comments
This song has nothing to do with the Americans!
cool copperfield music
"" abouth faith ""
Cause of Birdy.
1982 - what a year: Gabriel's IV and Kate Bush's The Dreaming, two albums that defined my musical taste in the 80s.
I have loved this song since forever but I love the visuals on this video!!! Wish there was more!
Love his voice
Estoy aquí porque tengo buen gusto musical.
This song causes so amazing sensations...
Those drums!!!
The song is a masterpiece, especially in live concerts during the 1980s & 90s.
However, I do not understand the point of making a video in which the images displayed directly echo the lyrics. ADD a new dimension, expand on the writer's themes, or you are adding nothing at all. We see this sort of slavish parroting in too many videos.
Im here cos I saw David Copperfield use this song on one of his illusions
I’m here for Pete
I'm here to check out some Fairlight sounds
What an awesome song. I'm a late comer to peter Gabriel
Check out some early Genesis like nursery crimes
It's never late! Yes, I agree that you need to discover a young PG with his glorious Genesis costumes 😊
Sausage speared by the cocktail satellite. The dragging tailpipe. Saw this live, the crowd did lay their hands on him. He came back on stage, his clothes ripped to shreds
Dont know who the hell the American's are. Memories of my late teens brought me here.
Here because I grew up on this song in the 80s
Don't just cherry pick PG songs. Take the time to relax, and listen to his albums. They are(mostly) journeys worth the time and modifiers.
compliment for the descriptions
been a fan since before this song first came out...it is AMAZING live!!!
I provide solace to this......

That high-pitched synthesizer in the pre-chorus is so beautiful.
Knew it was Peter Gabriel almost as soon as I heard the Musical Score. Then ..... #ThatVOICE!
gimme some music like that pls m8s
Check out Peter Gabriel's Melt and Kate Bush's Hounds of Love.
check out the live version of this where peter crown surfs, took brass ones. awesome tune
This song and Depeche Modes "Pipeline" had all this really cool pipe scraping, things dropping, real experimental sounds. Both come from around the the same time frame, both struck me as a teen, especially when walkmen came out and the headphones blew your mind (anyone old enough to remember that?
I am big fan of Peter Gabriel but did not know this song yet....come here because of The Americans too....SoundHound give me no result too! Great Music....love Peter Gabriel and his Music
I'm here because of "The Americans"!

Perfect love song
I am not here because of The Americans. I hear it's a good show though, and it's good to see PG being introduced to some new ears.
Yep. The Americans. Damn good show.
What drums are being hit? Tom toms??
sglandon yes with heavy gate
exellent
Anyone here because have seen years ago David Copperfield's show?
The Americans!
If you're watching The Americans and if PG or Fleetwood Mac starts playing, shit's about to get real.
Was here well before The Americans. But thrilled to hell they use him so much
I am William. Lay your Hans on me.
the song is on his 4th album, the album is sometimes called "Security"

there are no accidents. everything happens for a reason in God's plan and purpose.
One of my favorite Peter Gabriel songs. Gabriel released the album, "Sanctuary", in German as well as English. Check out either. It's, in my opinion, his best.
Everyone bringing up The Americans, but I’m here because of David Copperfield and have ALWAYS though of that one illusion that used this song.
Here because of The Americans :)
it's only common scents
I have this album on vinyl (most recent remaster on 180g vinyl).
Still blows my mind every time I play it.
i have first 3 albums on 200 g vinyl. love em'
Simply magnificent!!!!!
I'm here because of that David Copperfield magic special from the early 90s.
An unparalleled masterpiece from the master, and Jerry Marotta is killing it on the drums.
I to am a dedicated follower of the Americans. It's like the first series of Twin Peaks, see one episode and your hooked. And I do miss Nina.
Here 'cos of the communists.
I'm here because of Peter Gabriel and one of my favourite songs ;)
amazing
Classic Cold War era joint!
Саундтрек из сериала Американцы/The Americans 5 сезон 6 серия 40 мин.,кому интересно!)
the americans brought me here
Credits due to the Linn drum machine and the magnificent drummer Jerry Marotta who both feature on this track from the sublime album Peter Gabriel IV - This song was also a monument live, particularly during his 82/83 world tour, as it was when Gabriel would walk to the edge of the stage and throw himself in the audience and crowd surf until he was dragged back onto the stage
I saw that tour and Gabriel surfing. Never did figure out why Gabriel replaced Marotta with Katche, though. I liked Marotta's drumming better.
Cool bass line and sparing claptrap.
Betcha Putin watches this show
I am also here because of the americans
He is one of a kind as some like to say.
When I first heard the song come on during an episode of The Americans, I instantly thought of Phil Collins. The drums are so Phil. I was close though. Then the lyrics started & I thought....Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel. I love them separately and together.
It's actually Jerry Marotta on drums here.
Yeah! The drums do have that same Phil Collins punch to them like No Self Control
Peter Gabriel used the Gated drum sound first on his 1980 album
http://petergabriel.com/news/celebrating-gated-reverb/
That famous gated drum sound. Defining the great sound of the 80's.
Nothing comes close
@Johanna San Inocencio Which Phil Collins played. In PG's album.
The Americans! Great fit and also what a great song, it really struck me. Reminds me of the Synth genre, which I listened to a lot when I was younger.
A masterful series like the Americans lead my way to this song. There's no better place on television to honor this kind of songs than the Americans.
Your English is not very good.
I hope it's improved over the 2 years
Love this song , then heard it on Americans
as a drummer, security is a must have. Rhythm of the Heat is pretty much every drummers anthem, whether they know it or not-
Peter Gabriel never fails to have a good drummer. He always uses the best of the best like Jerry Marotta (who plays drums here), Manu Katche and Steve Gadd.
Andrew Todd I shared Rhythm with a class of middle schoolers just this week 😎
The Americans!
Who else is here because of The Americans. 🙌
of course.... <3 fuck!!! comon thing....
Well...not me. I was listening to this back in the 1980's.
Me Too!
Just heard this song for the first time on tonight's episode of The Americans. LOVE IT!!! Unfortunately, not available in Amazon Music.
...Maybe just buy the album?
The Americans brought me here :D
me too, just pissed me off they butchered the edit, had to hear it whole.
Inb4 the Americans. Brilliant.
The Americans
a brilliant song from peter!!!
j 'adore
I love this song so much.... the drums give me goosebumbs every time. If anyone can suggest tracks with similarly entrancing drums, please share :-D
bandit7319 might also like Herby Hancock and The Art of Noise
in the air tonight already mentioned; Intruder- Gabriel; I Know There's Something Going On- Frida
bandit,
listen to across the river (secret world live tour). with headphones. you'll die and be raptured.
Totally
here's modern song with very similar drums. you have to wait for the chorus though... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnXkMNyc794
This is so poetic.
what happened to this kind of music?
@coelleen you are a rare breed then, most people your age don't have a clue what real music is...sounds like you do though!
That's easy.....the social vacuum that was VH1, MTV and a small host of other music-industry promoters washed clean the awareness of the common person - that which is truly creative, artistic expression of cerebral ideas.
"Hey Canada! Have you heard? There's gooood rockin' to-NIGHT!!!". 😒
Station
@Cash Nelson What a fucking troll. I was really forward for an actual example, and I got this shit. 😂😂😂
Florence and the Machine, Fever Ray, Hozier,Tommee Proffitt, Poets of the Fall, undeveloped but there's also the much younger artistry of Awol Nation for upbeat, Lindsey Stirling, etc.
i'm 25, i grew up with a wonderful music library and i adore the "oldies" and one of the few in my group of friends that listens to classical not discovered by soundtracks but i also know music is not dead. Good music is still all around and being made. And besides that not /everything/ ever made in the 90's and before was good music. Even the great bands had some...questionable tracks. "i'm in love with my car" comes to mind - which was fun and sometimes that's the only point of music.
So maybe, just maybe....stop whining about music not being good because you don't have the patience or state of mind to enjoy the newer kind and are nostalgic for the hormonal emotional rush you get subconsciously when listening to the songs you listened to in younger days and good times. Just because you form emotional and memory links to music does not mean you can't enjoy the new stuff.
Gem song Nice video matching the music
new fan ...I simply can not believe i passed up Gabreils work growing up.I have much catching up to do..Just ordered a master copy of this record.
Dead Weight so glad that you are listening now.
I used to stay up all night listening
Dead Weight it doesn’t matter the music is timeless... only draw back is that you missed a few great live shows... the upside you don’t have to wait 5 to 10 years for the next album to come out.... you may also like early Genesis with Peter Gabriel, songs like Watcher of the Skies and Suppers Ready!!!
If anyone knows where Lay your hands on me can be found on Spotify Please let me know. I have always loved his music but this is one that can not be found
I am glad i am not the only one that loves his music. Thank you and i hope you enjoy your day. Karen
well thank you karen! you can thank my father for loving peter gabriel! i think i may prefer him more than Phil collins. Also i hope you enjoy your day as well!
Simply buy the Cd, support PG
Thanks Markus Hofer. Just low on cash flow at the time
Same old problem everywere ! hope you find it somewhere.
This is one of his songs that i can not find on Spotify. frustrating
Gabriel just added his entire discography on Spotify!
ja.......................
un bijou de mister gab
saw this song being used on a Magic of David Copperfield tv special and those drums had me hooked!
Glad it's not just me! This track is hypnotic and absolutely WICKED!
I'll never forget hearing this for the first time as a child watching that magician David Copperfield.... I was born in 80 hearing this at the time struck a chord in me I didn't know existed
This song just blows my head off.
I don't think we have a new artist who's even doing anything close to this.
Brilliance like this is in short supply in today's music.
Thanks for the laugh, Betty. I'm sure Peter would genuinely appreciate the compliment you have inadvertently paid him. Good to have it confirmed that this really hasn't dated much, if at all. You are clearly not as much of a "Gabriel fan" as you would like to have us believe.
You got mugged off mate
@ Betty Coffey
Get your facts straight. This album was 1982. A lil' before your "early 90's."
Garbiel isn't even doing anything close to this.
@Betty Coffey Hi Betty. This song and its album were released at the end of 1981, so Massive Attack have been massively influenced by Peter Gabriel. Especially by this fourth and his third solo albums, in which Gabriel introduced World Music and ancient African polyrhythms (as a well as modern African politics) to the western world.
Fucking awesome.
uh oh.. there is only ONE black hand in this video... someone will say it is "racist"
capolavoro
I love this song so much.
Reaction levels much too high ...................
I could do without the stimuli. ...................
Says it all...enough said....?
But still the warmth spreads through me and i sense i know you well.......
I can see the flashes on the frozen ocean, static charge of cold emotion
+Alex Snowberg it's common sense....there are no accidents .. Lay your hands on me.....
Fantastic.
Ultra cool! Nothing more to say. PG is a true pioneer.
Incredible PG tune accompanied by an outstanding video...
...well done.
Whatever you're doing works. Sounds GREAT on my system! Thanks.
