Pete Townshend - Music Must Change Lyrics

Deep in the back of my mind is an unrealized sound
Every noise that I hear on the street say it soon could be found
When I hear the cold lies of the pusher I know it exists
It's confirmed in the eyes of the kids emphasized with their fists

But the high has to rise from the low
Like volcanoes explode through the snow
The mosquito's sting brings a dream but the poisons derange
So the music must change

For we're chewing a bone
You know we soared like the sparrow hawk flies
Then we drop like a stone
Like the tide and the waves growing slowly in range
Crushing mountains as old as the Earth
So the music must change

Sometimes at night I wake up and my body's like ice
The sound of the running wild stallion the noise of the mice
And I wondered if then I could hear into all of your dreams
I realize now it was really the sound of your screams

Death always leads into life
But the street fighter swallows the knife
Am I so crazy to feel that it's here pre-arranged
The music must change
It's gets higher and higher
Smoldering like leaves in the sun it bursts into fire
Its rhythm grows strong, so strong
So new and so strange
Like bells in the clouds then again the music must change
Change

But is this song so different?
Am I doing it all again?
It may have been done before
But then music's an open door
Deep in the back of my mind is an unrealized sound
Every feeling I get from the street says it soon could be found
When I hear the cold lies of the pusher I know it exists
It's confirmed in the eyes of the kids emphasized with their fists

But the high has to rise from the low
Like volcanoes explode through the snow
The mosquito's sting brings a dream but the poison's derange
Though the music must change
For we're chewing a bone
We soared like the sparrow hawk flies
And we drop like a stone

Like the tide and the waves growing slowly in range
Crushing mountains as old as the Earth
So the music must change
The music must change, yeh

In this version the verses sound like "pleasure man" from the First mick Ronson album.

it's confirmed in the eye's of the kids and for size with their fists . . . or something like that , what line!!!! And yes the music must change, like KORN feach album was the same and after a while they no longer mean anything. But Who, each album was different, Led Zep too. The music must change!!!! And BTW:keith didn't could play this one or Sister Disco, he couldn't do 4/6 timing . . . does not mean a thing to me. Keith ruled!!!!!! still trying to comprehend his method of two toms for snare sound(finally figured it out in We won't get Fooled again, he is working the snare but he hitting two tom at the same time and getting that "pop" as if he is using it as snare. hard to explain but Keith is a god to me!!!

Awesome demo version but Roger Daltrey's vocals take it into the stratosphere.

@cheifguggletram glorious...my favourite version too!! ah man, there is no lyricist like Peter!! he rises above all!!

  11. J.... M....

Sadly I think the music has changed, but it has gone far away from anything as brilliant as this demo.

  12. S.... ....

    excellent!

  13. R.... G....

after hearing this song, i didnt think music needed changing!!!!

  14. J.... P....

Like som much of Pete's music, this is just Theatrical! It jumps out of the speakers and grabs you.

  15. J.... P....

I need a cigarette after this just to calm down...

  16. Q.... G....

    Holy Shit!

I actually prefer this to the Who Are You version. Pete's vocal is more passionate I find. And hearing it without all those synths is nice, though there is still a synthesizer in it.

  18. F.... G....

It's a bit different hearing this song with Pete's voice. I have learned this song on guitar but sometimes have trouble with the lyrics in the middle section.
