Pete Townshend - Dance It Away Lyrics

They say we've got nothing left (nothing on the ground)
They say we used it all up (in the desert ground)
Got to be so careful with the rest (we'll break it down)
Or else the nukes are gonna play it tough

Well, I can't stand pessimistic (uptown)
My creepers got to have their faith (wait around)
There's only one answer I can think of (another sound)
Just get up and dance it away

Dance it away
Come on and Dance it away
Come on and dance it away
Get up and dance it away

There are children at the bottom of the ocean (body now)
And, it's so hard to be so far away (all around)
Some people have forgotten the explosion (buff your shoes)
Still throwing punches everyday
We'll still like to think we're human (and we will say)
And we're gonna drown in our own sweet way (will get you down)
At times it looks confusing (take it back)
But, Mr. Can we dance it away

Dance it away
Come on and dance it away
Dance it away
Get up and dance it away

Don't worry, don't worry, don't worry
Just dance it away

Don't worry, don't worry, don't worry
Just dance it away

They say we've got nothing left (nothing on the ground)
They say we used it all up (in the desert ground)
Got to be so careful with the rest (we'll break it down)
Or else the nukes are gonna play it tough

Well, I can't stand because of my stick (uptown)
My creepers got to have their faith (wait around)
There's only one answer I can think of (another sound)
Just get up and dance it away

Come on dance it away
Why don't you just dance it away
Come on and dance it away
Get up and dance it away

Don't worry, don't worry, don't worry
Just dance it away

Pete Townshend Dance It Away Comments
  1. G.... T....

Should have been put on “Face Dances”; too bad there is not a version with Roger on vocals ((...or is there one lurking in what’s left of the Who ‘unreleased vault’?

    G.... T....

Watch the live performance of Dance it Away Newcastle 1981, it features Roger singing half the song by himself, the only time I remember Roger singing the complete version of this song.

  2. P.... R....

Great picture of Pete playing "Number One".

  3. L.... ....

Yes ! Its The Who minus Roger Daltry. I wonder why this one, was not finished as The Who. They did play it live many more times than other superior Who songs.

  4. J.... P....

Even though this is "A Pete Townshend Solo B-Side", it's actually The Who
without Roger with John on bass & Kenny Jones on drums.

  5. G.... g....

Sounds a bit like "we got a hit" from endless wire. Same kind of melody.

  6. t.... ....

Yes, it sounds more like the Who than anything on the "..Chinese Eyes.." album itself. Chords on the opening sound a lot like "The Real Me."

    t.... ....

Sounds more like "the who" you mean. Chinese Eyes was definitive step away from that.. and all the power to him.
