A fine ballad, it may be more appreciated over the time, as much of the PSB do.

"In the court of the Crimson King" ?....

This a song made in honor of novelist Stefan Zweig who fled the Nazis to England, USA and then to Brazil (Petropolis, State of Rio de Janeiro), where he committed suicide in 1942, disappointed with the world situation during the 2nd World War, and omniscient narrator, aware of the innermost thoughts of the writer, and chronicles his pain sad farewell from his homeland (Switzerland) in 1934, after Adolf Hitler came to power in neighboring Germany. The output of Switzerland would also be the first step in his farewell to the world. Wiedersehen is a German word and means literally "see again" with connotations of a goodbye. A curiosity is that the song was recorded with a choir composed entirely of Germans, with special participation of Canadian musician Rufus Wainwright. I don't like to be opportunistic and to publicise our work further in the page, for whom I have deep affection, respect and gratitude, but I believe that works of art should be studied on the background, and our friend Adriana Matiuzo did a great job of research and got with Wayne Studer this and other information about this song, which you can find on facebook at the Pet Shop Boys Edition, the album "Almanaque Pethead". After that we understand the reason for the song have been done, is that we can understand why these chords sad, but beautiful by Chris, your lyrics, and the way magnificent that Neil interprets. Perfection is little to describe this work and these two geniuses that God has given us.

Esta música foi feita em homenagem ao romancista Stefan Zweig que fugiu do Nazismo para a Inglaterra, EUA e depois para o Brasil (Petrópolis, no Estado do Rio de Janeiro), onde cometeu suicídio em 1942, decepcionado com a situação do mundo durante a 2ª Grande Guerra Mundial, e narra sua dor na triste despedida de sua terra natal (a Suíça), em 1934, após Adolf Hitler subir ao poder na vizinha Alemanha. A saída da Suíça seria também o primeiro passo de sua despedida do mundo. Wiedersehen é uma palavra alemã e significa literalmente “ver de novo” com conotação de um adeus. Uma curiosidade é que a música foi gravada com um coro integralmente composto por alemães, com participação especial do músico canadense Rufus Wainwright. Just listened to a preview of Super. Mmm. 12 skippable dance tracks then at the end something that is up their with any Beatles, Radiohead, Pink Floyd or Simon and Garfunkel classic. PSB are awesome but they should work with someone like Nigel Godrich or Angelo Badalamenti for their next album.

Love it! I think a lot of this "PSB are just dancey and aren't as good as they were before" complaining doesn't take the bigger picture into consideration. Just because they are currently exploring a more dance-orientated sound (although it's always been there from the beginning) doesn't mean that's it, they're only ever going to produce dance albums. For a start, Neil confirmed on the recent Radio 2 documentary that the 'A Man From The Future' piece will be expanded upon and released/performed in roughly 2018, secondly there's this very song that as others have said is as good as any of their ballads e.g. No Time For Tears, Your Funny Uncle, King of Rome, Being Boring, I Made My Excuses and Left etc. I personally think it's the versatility of their catalogue that attracts me to their music. One day I'll listen non-stop ballads. Another day I'll have all the DISCO albums on in succession or Electric and Super. Some days I might have a bit of both (SHOCK HORROR!). We all have our favourites but just because an album or an 'era' doesn't suit your taste, doesn't mean it's bad by any stretch.

Let me say it as a german "sehr gut Jungs" ...one of the best ballads for many years.

They say sad is beautiful. This song is heartbreaking and fantastic. As always with the PSB, there is, beyond an obvious talent for sounds and melodies, a genuine sensitivity, an ability to use words and melodies as a means for the listener to get the tragic extent of a situation, and touch us both intellectually and emotionally.
This song is worth more than 1,000 politicians' speeches.
One more pearl adding to an already comfortable collection. Thank you PSB !

I've said this before, but I think it's worth repeating: we have to be amongst the luckiest music fans in the world right now. It's absolutely clear that the PSB have entered a new "Great Era". And songs like "Wiedersehen", that IMO are absolutely top-notch PSB... as good as anything ballad they've ever done in their careers... and this means that we have a lot to look forward to.

Songs like this and "Always" are not remotely "pop". And without trying to sound too aloof, as classical musician, the PSB's talents (particularly in this song and "Always", for example) are well into the realm of skilfully composed classical music. Such is their talent. We are the luckiest fans alive!

finally a well-recorded track, the voice of Neil is clear and recorded with quality. Much better than all tracks of Electric and Super. This is how pet shop boys should be. This recording has quality unlike the last two albums.

+Edde Music yes, if you check out my YouTube page you'll find a wide variety of electronica of mine, some old some new. I was the guy that pretty much threw together the extended mix of The White Dress (still up, I think). The PSB and Kobolt blocked it, but OK'd it 2 hrs later amazingly. Not an actual remix though.

This is a Amazing Song But I Think ELECTRIC is Great Especially Love is a bourgeois construct! I HAVE Every Pet shop boys song there is and love them all please don't say electric is bad it's awsome and Euphoric! I do Think Super lacks the Quality of all other albums though but the Concert was Great the Dictator decides is very deep song though

It's tragic. I was reading the news about the vote (I voted to Remain) on the morning of the results and this new song had just appeared in my library. I sounded so poignant as I read about the implications. Very sad :-(
