Pet Shop Boys - This Must Be The Place I Waited Years To Leave Lyrics
(Everybody E-E-Everybody
Everybody E-E-Everybody
Everybody E-E-Everybody
Everybody jump to attention...)
Feel the benefit, mental arithmetic
I waited by the staffroom
In time for benediction
Living a law just short of delusion
When we fall in love there's confusion
This must be the place I waited years to leave
To our voices nobody's listening
We shiver in the rain by the touchline
Then a coach ride to the station
Living a law just short of delusion
When we fall in love there's confusion
This must be the place I waited years to leave
This must be the place I waited years to leave
And how
How long?
I'm listening to the words I thought I'd never hear again
A litany of saints and other ordinary men
Kneeling on the parquet
Whatever has gone wrong?
The fear and feeling hopelessness
I don't want to belong
I dreamt I was back in uniform
And a candidate for examination
History, someone had blundered
And a voice rapped "knuckle under!"
Living a law just short of delusion
When we fall in love there's confusion
This must be the place I waited years to leave
This must be the place I waited years to leave
And how
And how
How long?

hmm this has a Depeche Mode Violator influence.
Absolutely genius
Not really...
I don't want to live isolated in an island surrounded by water.
I can live close to the Coast depending on the place (usually unaffordable)...
But I always had preference for a place in the Country side on the mountains or close.
Quiet...
With nature...
Cold or fresh for health reasons...
The ideal place wasn't found yet...
But some places called my attention already!!!
Madeira is not one of those places! Is completely out of question!!! Completely away of my mind...
I hope this is clear enough...

At 5:21 you can hear a snippet of Andrey Vyshinsky's speech, who was a friend of Stalin and state prosecutor of 1937 Moscow trials.
This song and the other hits from Behaviour album have become the escence of winter every year since 1990, these melodies match perfectly with the season inspiring me and bringing peace of mind. I'm glad to have attended the two PSB concerts in Lima and hope to see them again. Regards from Lima, Peru.
Wonderful ❤🍷👏👏
Unbelievable track!
Unreached. ❤❤❤
Although I'm sad this wasn't fashioned into a Bond movie theme...in a way...I'm also happy. You see, *this* is the stream of "song thought" that was truly and genuinely on their collective mind, and it is what ultimately became *the* thought pattern and "message" of the song. *If* it had been worked into a Bond theme, then all of this original and sincere point of it would've been obliterated. So yes, I can confidently say I for one am glad *this* is the "real" song, when it comes to what was on the artists' actual collective mind. No matter what we think of it...it's the truth. I say we should be thankful for it.
Masterpiece
I remember playing this at a house party in 2004 and the other kids dismissed it as 'dark, scary music'
Where the other kids Shiny Happy People?
Were, sorry...Doh!
They were all listening to limp bizkit and where are those guys today. PSB are still going strong.
Bien ahí!
Este tema iba a ser el tema principal de una película de James Bond , real
This Voice💖💖
Brilliant song
there the best all around
My psb ever♥️♥️
This theme was written for the james bond film the living daylights
It's a reworking of a demo they pitched for the film but was rejected for reasons I haven't able to find out yet.
If only the filmmakers had used it. The "A-Ha" theme was good, but PSB's would've been better.
@JCBro2014 The reason seems to be because PSB wanted to do the *entire* soundtrack, not just the main title theme. The filmmakers didn't want to give PSB that much, so they gave the spot to "A-Ha" instead. In my own humble opinion, the filmmakers made a mistake. The "A-Ha" theme song was good, but PSB's would've been better.
@Timelord2001 I heard that was a possible case. Sort of surprised they didn't reconsider the offer for "License to Kill" but I think that's because John Berry's absence was a last minute thing. If not for his throat cancer surgery, he probably would've composed for that film as well.
For real???
Walter Pater went into a time machine and made a synth pop classic entrenched in that public school queer vibe.
Brilliant.....a máster piece...perfect...
luv this song !!!
Brilliant! No words. A masterpiece!
