I've read a lot of posts (and I mean A LOT) on one of the main psb forums that say this is one of the worst psb tracks ever released, lots of people were in agreement... I truly can't see why, I think this song is amazing. I know it wasn't written by them but still, it really is a great song! I don't care what anyone says!

Those people disliking this beautiful song have yet to experience life during a painful period of loss or grief. The same one's disliking this sing are probably the same one's that disliked "Behaviour" at first. That album was considered a "flop" when first released but now we all know what a masterpiece it is. It is now called PSB's best album. "Numb" is a powerful ballad that is beautiful and in time these children will realize it also. They probably people that have to have all their music at 128 b.p.m or above??

Amazing video with stunning visuals....not to mention the hauntingly beautiful voices of the Pet Shop Boys........."I wanna be numb".....how many scenarios in our lives can this appeal to??!...."don't wanna feel no more.....".  This can fit all we are feeling if in pain,emotionally and in past remembrances....
   To wish to feel numb to blank out unwanted hurt is wholly understandable.
     To continue to be willingly numb means never letting others in for fear of similar experiences....pain,humiliation,insecurity etc.
   A very different aspect to being debilitatingly numb because of circumstances beyond control.
    If you realise you are letting yourself feel nothing because of a wrong situation,think again.
    Let the numbness go and feel alive again...what is it about someone that they can take you,mind and soul?...they are only a person......just as you are!
   Maybe the cause of being  needing to  "wannabe numb"  needs to be chopped off in order for the new shoots to grow.
  There are lots and lots of new blooms out there!!

@Robert Butenhoff it isn't. Watched "Battleship Potemkin" three days ago (with Tennant/Lowe score). There were no such scenes. It was a documentary about Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in 1941-1944.

@fillevans I remembered where I heard that she wrote it about her mother being ill, Neil Tennant says so in this interview at about 2:45 : watch?v=Q85Z75H03Hg It is commonly believed that it's about 9/11, but I think that's a fairly reliable source.

This was written by Dianne Warren in response to seeing the events of 9/11
