Periphery - Erised Lyrics
There's a vessel and it's sinking at sea.
An apparition that's beckoning me.
As the cold dark night brings on the sweat.
I slowly drift away.
What are we running from?
There's a distant sound of a melody.
Release me from this place.
All like to live with sedative under the skin.
Bury it, carry the cure.
Just let emotion set devotion within your heart to collect the death we sow.
Step out from the moonlight like it's a game we play.
The checkerboard is tainted drops of red will lead the way.
Command her seas of the blood in me.
Stuck down in the bottom of your cylindrical state of mind.
What are we running from?
There's a distant sound of a melody.
Release me from this place.
All like to live with sedative under the skin.
Bury it, carry the cure.
Just let emotion set devotion within your heart to collect the death we sow.
All like to live with sedative.
All like to live with sedative under the skin.
Just let emotion set devotion within your heart to collect the death we sow.
Collecting sanity, simply ready, for the life that waits surely.
There's a distant sound of a melody and I won't leave this place.

Over half a decade later, and I'm still coming back, listening to this daily. This song had always stood out for me. I love it. Much respect for these guys. People undermine the meaning of love, and over use it, but I actually love this band. They've brought so much to the table, absolutely have nothing less than love for these guys.
What do you think of their new album? They still have yet to disappoint me
I envy those who are just starting out on the Periphery adventure. Wish I could re-listen to all of this for the first time. Be patient newbies, you are in for a treat!
I feel this <3
Spencer killed it
That drum solo omg
They need to fucks wit joe satriani tho hes the best guitarists hands down alot of the bad ass guitarists we here from like Metallica and dream theater and many more were all student's of Mr Joe Satriani 👌💪

Guilherme Natale as a non English speaker I found hard to understand some of the lyrics just by listening
So thank you!
I never understood why this song was produced until I read the entire description. Great Job Misha. :)
oh la wea wena conchetumare
Blah, Spensai you need to brush your teeth before you sing.
Impossible try not to headbang challenge 3:03
very nice keep it up
Okay obviously the ending solo is Petrucci's, but who plays the first guitar solo before the second chorus?
When I read girlfriend in the comments I was like waaaaattt??? Misha has a girlfriend?!
I genuinely respect the 90s+ kids who preferred listening to this instead of commercials radio crap like justin bieber etc ... Too bad others are missing on this beautiful genre... i still prefer old school however! But there is no denying these guys are legit sick, rock on!
do you know paramore? what a raped bitch!
Why this song is never played live? And why the entire album is no longer available on cloud platform?
What makes the sound at 4:10 or so? Guitar? It repeats with the drums. Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun and so on.
Pretty sure it's just a synth
yeah it's a box like numpad looking tool
I'm the biggest fan of Dream Theater but actually don't like Petrucci here. Sounds too different from the rest of the thing...
I love you guys man. That double bass kick tho.
Erised
Desire
Song's about addiction/reliance on pills, medication
"Stuck down at the bottom of the orange cylindrical state of mind... ... There is a distance sound of a melody"
Anyone who takes anti depressants for example might probably understand
Petrucci is god
I still really am not into this song but that doubly chromatic third relation at 1:09 is so potent and feelsy and makes me nut ;w;
Petrucci is seriously Jesus revisting earth in form of a musician.
Idk but about Jesus but very good.
Really glad Spencer convinced Misha and the guys to make this an album release. He did the same for Absolomb and Motormouth on P3.
One of my favorite things about this page is how far I can scroll down without seeing any negative comments.
my favorite periphery track, the story behind it was excellent
Best Periphery album imo
Song song may have been made by mistake but it was an amazing one lol
Beautiful
Jesus. spencer just makes everything groovy and aesthetic as fuck
These guys remind me of a cross between Linking Park and old school POD! So glad I discovered them!
i can feel the lp part in it, but pod? I'd say blink 182
JOHN PETRUCCI INCOMIIIIIIIIING. Oh, the song is good too.
3:45 - 6:00 💔
I think this is one of my favorites (if not my favorite) songs from PII, I have no words to express the feeling this song brings to me. I absolutely love the chorus and the ending section specially. Looking forward to hear more songs like this
I can't decide which one of these songs is my favorite :( I love it
Misheard: Drop the redbull lead the way.
LMAO
Like that, lmao
This song is just so perfect... so breathtaking.
I love this song !!!!!
Love Thallpern's solo
KRDrums it's John petrucci
david hagen Boi I mean the drum solo before that
pretty sure it's Halpern*
Business Monkey nah he definitely means Thall...like Meshuggah...Thall godfathers who invented 'Djent'
Krispynachos 99 thall came from vildhjarta not meshuggah 👍🏽
I still not found periphery play this live on youtube.
I'm absolutely in love With Your Music, guys!! Keep on rolling :)
The chorus is just perfect, I can't even
Bit of a stupid question, but where's Petrucci's solo?
+stvn8or 5:05 until the end of the song.
+Reneguitario Thanks! It's an amazing solo.
john petrucci's solo in this is harder than behold imo.
behold BoO ? lmao i would disagree in that case
@Stephen Schmitz behold is a hard due to speed but technique and phrasing John Petrucci has a harder play to imitate.
@ReaverDropper Petrucci is not possible to be mistook. Not a huge Periphery fan here, but I heard this song, put it on a playlist years ago. No idea why i liked it so much (aside from the drum solo,) but come to find out years later it's actually JP! And Petrucci's nephew is in Periphery so it makes sense. Definitely the hardest Periphery solo
@David it's a very beautiful solo and fits really well. It's also a chance to hear petrucci signature licks with a different vocalist.
1:17 loving that bass line
+Arda Hocic Nolly killed it here.
I thought periphery dont have a bass player because of the 3 guitarists in the group plus how low they tune there guitars to sound they dont need a bassist but i could be wrong
Stefano De Maria They used to have a bass player, Adam «Nolly» Getgood, but he officially quit the band to pursue other things. While he still produces them, and plays bass on Periphery IV, he’s not an official member and doesn’t tour with them. The band finds him irreplacable, so they haven’t found a replacement and rather just use bass playback of Nolly’s playing when playing live
I don't know why the fuck but these song reminds me of Sonata Arctica!
I may not enjoy all of Periphery music, but this track is amazing. For I do want to like all of Periphery music. I mean, all of it is really well crafted and the production value is incredible, but I just cant seem to like all the music they make.
Hopefully overtime I enjoy more and more of their music.
2:05 omg yaaas
@Whitest White I want to be able to create solos like that on my piano. These solos are amazing!
One of my favorite Periphery songs ever!
The petrucci solo reminds me so much of graduating high school. Oh gosh the memories!
Erised, as in the Mirror of Erised?
Probably
Or perhaps Desire.... mirrored?
dat ending solo though...
3:15 djents so fucking much
The guitar solo is amazing (as you would expect from Petrucci) and the drum solo is killer (as you would expect from Halpern). Yet I think that the vocals are what make this song. The chorus in particular sent shivers down my spine. After all, Spencer was the one who took Misha's ideas and arranged this song to make it flow so beautifully.
+Jeff Corcoran Spencer is fucking boss
wait, Petrucci??? holy fuck, didn't know it was him!!! and yes, Petrucci is the guitar God
One of the reasons I fucking love Misha.
Did anyone read the description? Fucking awesome.
kind of wanting to hear the demo to see what it could have been.
+Eddie Vazquez ya thk god for spencer, and all the other guys too obviously
Just realized 3:20 is absolomb! But How!
Alex Bird I can't put it together?? Do you know which part or riff from absolomb ? I would look but I'm too high to comprehend
Psychedelica II The intro riff.
this whole song is so fucking nicely done
, quality, variety
2:06
insane change of armony !!!!!!!!!
rip structures
deserves more view and likes
Yeah, EVERY BODY SHARE AND LIKE XD
Does the name of the song resemble "Desire" spelled backwards by purpose, or does it have a different definition?
+Roy Naftaly in harry potter there's the "mirror of erised" which shows you your greatest desire (mirror desire = erised) so they probably got it from there i think
+Daniel Santos Wow didn't even remember writing this comment. Thanks :)
no worries man ahaha
1:22 Matt. Fucking. Halpern.
Great music, Great vocal !!
The solo is so good
John Petrucci my friend :3
Petrucci actually improvised this solo too. XD
obviously
@Enigma793 Mostly improvised with a little direction from Jake and Misha as to what the solo should have, like the final signature sound from Petrucci at the end of the solo
Best drum solo ever , Matt shows that you don't need to go 320bpm to do a bad ass drum solo , Groove and Feel above all
@Leonardo Faria Damn right, it's all about making me feel things for those solos, hella groove and feel in that drum solo
Great instrumental but jesus the vocals are overtly homosexual..."let emotion set devotion within you".
Mac People like you are what makes this world garbage tbh??
@Voice of the Woods Don't be so dramatic, just because I don't like the vocal style I'm garbage? It's not a big deal. I actually prefer clean vocals mostly, Protest the Hero (from Scurrilous and forward) have the most phenomenal vocals, with growls only really used sparingly, for flair.
Mac there's a big difference between not liking something and insulting something because you don't like it
Paul Mares I thought I was the only one enjoying the contrast between his voice and the whole atmosphere (or perhaps that's his voice which contribute to this atmosphere...)
Lol btw I m bi and I laughed at that comment
1:22-1:26 God Damn, Matt
I think you're forgetting about that drum solo, my good sir ;D
+Dalton Gorden I know this totally late, but I think he knew that it was a solo. Matt halpern is one of the best drummers ive ever seen
That chop 🤤
2:05 is one of my favorite solos ever
fuckin amazing banda :(......I really love this music....and spencer´s voice is amazing D: ¡
My 22 year old son turned me on to this song last week. I like it a lot, great driving tune!
Yes! Me too!
Amazing drums as always :)
Cool song?
I approve this band-song.
Great song! But that intro reminds me of my windows computer starting up.
brazwen xD
Screw off black veil
I don't dig the vocals in periphery at all yet I find the vocals to be fantastic here. Like, I'd still prefer an instrumental version but at the same time I manage to appreciate the vocals.. weird.
you'r from Cinyc ??
@Rajesh Madhav n1
It also took me awhile to get used to Spencer’s vocals, but now I love it
Dude Spencer Grew on Me and Became one of if not my Favorite Vocalist
I will always remember Halpern because of this song.
Misha jams under the influence of things. In other words he does use drugs from time to time. Cool song though....
¡¡¡¡EARGASM !!!!
My god, the vocals are so embarrassing to listen to... I actually squirm in my seat listening to this whining.
Okay, people that can bare this: help me. I want to discover why Misha is a great guitarist but I hate his music, so can someone just tell me what guitar solos are good and at what point they come in the song? I'd like to hear his style, but I find it physically challenging to listening to his music.
lol..wow Spencer is one of the best aspects of this band! gtfo
Lol fucking idiot asking where his solos are. he doesn't play half of their solos if their even is one anyways you obviously aren't a musician and never have listened too to much periphery. Let's see all you haters cover Spencer's vocals, oh you can't because he actually has a wide range and it's not easy to sing at a higher pitch like you think.
@MfEuTrArLy i mean the vocals in this song are not good in comparison with the other ones, the others are better, at least that's what i think. And yes James labrie is a bad vocalist, thats a no brainer
I take back my first comment :p
Sorry but solos don't make a guitarist good..... Listen to the guitar through the whole song to find a good guitarist. Also the vocals, people can't just change their voice to suit you. This is what they were born with the voice they were given and he found the way he was meant to do vocals... His style, his choice.
Periphery is kicking major ass and meanwhile Black Veil Brides is sucking dick.
@Austin NeX It's just a pic, so what? and what band are you talking about? All I'm saying is that saying "This band is awesome, and this totally unrelated band sucks" is just kind of juvenile. And if you were talking about BVB, no I don't like them.
I was kidding they suck
@Princess Dashie Lol, and you say this 6 months later?
Yeah, I was delusional before.
Except they really do suck
An instrumental version would have been kickass for the Captain America 2 trailer lol I've thought that since the trailer first came out. Seriously go back and watch the trailer and picture this song over it.
When Petrucci plays solos with periphery, He really is n°1 in world
ูููู^^cool
just discovered this band and i can already tell how talented they are
its amazing. new favorite band
So, I understand that this comment was posted a while ago, but how are you gonna say this is your favorite band after just listening to one song? Lol
Black Veil Brides wishes they were as good as Periphery.
Lorenzo Rizzardi fuck bvb bunch of herpes infested ballbags
超かっこいい
Thall of duty.
Petrucci = GOD!
Petrucci + Periphery = Absolute Perfection ! ;D
Eklektik Metalhead Petrucciphery
Periphetrucci ?
NexusStormBlade every time I hear this song, after it finishes, I rewind to hear Petrucci's solo.
2:06 - 2:47, dat chills
I would love to hear the demo of this song.
What a brilliantly written song
Not the biggest metal fan here but love this a lot :3
+Florentin Peters TWTNG is amazing, but as far as Periphery's more melodic/clean songs go, you simply can't beat Jetpacks Was Yes/Erised, imo. Instant favorites the first listen through.
CoughMileZeroCough
They sound like a heavy Coheed and Cambria
