Perfume Genius - Grid Lyrics
I know you worry
Baby, sometimes - maybe baby.
You were right
I can see
The same old line
There is no angel
Above the grid
Maybe baby
This is it
A diamond
Swallowed and shit
Then swallowed again
At least we know where it's been

Perfume Genius Grid Comments
this made me want to throw up in the best way possible
зуйня
He reminds me of Ramsay Bolton idkw
Probably one of the dumbest fucking songs I've ever listened to.
The grid metaphor didn't do anything for you?
My heart beats for you Mr. Hadreas.
🖤
Damn is this song really 4 years old now? Hello from 2018, this album still rocks!
No one looks as good in heels as he does 💚
So good. This video is incredible.
If Prior Walter from Angels in America had nightmares
a video illustrating crohn's, being tossed about by all the chrome crohnies
so beautiful.
Purefme genius
Coool... I love it! :)
Genius indeed!!!
so great
this song is a fucking treasure
Is this Xiu Xiu yet?
He's like Bobby Conn's little brother.

I'd love if someone explain what's going on there xD
miss thing is servingggggg. ahead of the time. Gaga is shaking
SHREDBOTS!
Yas!! Just yas bech!!
Peter Gabriel meets P.J. Harvey
The guy is amazing! He played at slc pride last year and I was floored. I was a little disappointed in the crowds reaction. I was not familiar with his work prior to the event either but I was so impressed. I guess everyone was not on the same wavelength, indy music is so underrated!
Cobain is loving this! As we are!
Who else is here from Catfish?
He's so hot.
Anyone have any recommendations for music similar to this? I've been listening to a lot to NIN, The Soft Moon, late-90's PJ-- loving these dark electronic vibes. Thanks! x
Grimes. And this song is like the same thing as Oblivion by Grimes
D.A.F. They're German. Look into late 70's/early 80's krautrock, and also any new wave and post-punk. Ex: Einsturzende Neubauten, Art of Noise, PIL, Throbbing Gristle... Etc
'Savages' and 'Your friend' are great groups too!
'the Knife', 'the Presets', 'Liars' & maybe 'Blanck Mass', although Blanck Mass is more heavier electronic stuff, but if you like NiN, you should check it out.
Try Austra or Christine and the Queens.
*QUE VALIENTE JOTITO!!! BONITA ROLA*
i love him
It reminds me of Party Monster
ça aurait été dommage de passer à coté.
the beginning reminded me SO MUCH of bowie
Suicide meets Diamanda Galas.
Thank you so much for this song. Reminds me of good times with my dad and brother before my dad passed away Sep.17.2014. ..... ❤️
is the song name "grid" related to Gay Related Immune Deficiency?
the ending looks a lot like Matthew Barney's work
kinda creeped out gave me the chills near the end
slightly aroused
Lo amo 😍
whats crazy is this guy looks like elton john or david bowie all drag queeny n stuff... but he makes music that at least this song reminds me of trent reznor. too much talent in just one dude, very impressed with PG.
He's so gorgeous
I just discovered this guy, and dammit if I haven't loved every single one of his songs so far! He's amazing!!
I wanna get his album.
Augh I love him so much it's painful 3
“Primeiro estranha-se, depois entranha-se”, como diria Fernando Pessoa.
1:56 when that snare kicks in...shit gets real.
Lots of people are getting completely the wrong influences on this song and the video. Let me rectify this. Listen to 'All Saints' by David Bowie and you'll realise this is pretty much just the same song but with lyrics and screaming (I still love it). The video has Hadreas wearing the same trousers Bowie wore for his sailor outfit (late 80s?), while the backlit platform is an absolute double of Bowie's video for 'Heroes'.
Somehow I get the idea Hadreas is non-verbally name-dropping Bowie as a major influence.
getting such a clockwork orange vibe off this - it's glorious.
this video changed my life
Does anyone else think that the song is actually really cool and dosent care about the video?
-You guys judge wayyyyyy too much
does anyone think the song is cool and actually likes the video? ✋
no samples, so everything he did in this song he did with his own voice
Found this on catfish and so glad i did!
is it weird i find him attractive?
You really are a beautiful genius.
This needs more views tbh
I don't know why Perfume Genius hasn't got more mainstream recognition?
@Ross C. Smith This is NOT a mainstream song haha. Hood, Queen, yes, but not this.
+Blake Hunter D ouglas
The majority of people want to listen to something that sounds just like everything else or music they can party to. This doesn't fit that criteria.
he's doing better now
Blood curdling screams
I hope he credits sampling Diamanda Galas.
That scream was Diamanda?
@LukasVonQ no samples used on this track, he confirmed it!
I love this.
GRID was the initial name for AIDS when it was known as a disease only related to homosexual man.
Don't know if this has to do or not with this track, but that makes it more terrifying than it already is. And kinda awesome too. :)
Crimewaveddd it does, I think
On Queen, he sings “riddled with disease”, which references the negative stereotypes about gay men and how AIDS is still linked implicitly linked to homosexuality in the eyes of society
So were's the recording of the woman (women) singing from around the 1:30 part? Anyone know the words to that part? It's driving me crazy not knowing!
@Matt Piskun Me too! I'd love to know the lyrics
I've been trying to figure it out myself!
son of Marc Almond!
This kid is dope.
This is what nightmares are made of... but I can't stop watching it.
PG-
The videos keep getting better & better. Is it you or is it them?
Either way, a man in heels is hot and secure. Definitely sure footed. Keep up the great work. We love you
was this directed by maisie-cousins?
When AIDS first presented in the USA, the first cluster of cases were gay men, which is why it was initially called Gay Related Immune Deficiency http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay-related_immune_deficiency . G.R.I.D for short.
It's a difficult and interesting subject. I'm just not a fan of the interpretive dance/ fashion photography approach to it. I can't help but feel the stage school take trivializes the subject somewhat.
Er, I think you have inferred that this song and video are about G.R.I.D. because they happen to share a name - there's certainly no literature that I can find from Hadreas confirming a link between the two. The video is mental (Hadreas has stated it was meant to be so) but I don't think this is supposed to be an interpretation of AIDS in the early days.
There is no angel
Above the grid
Not sure how the lyrics really point to it being about G.R.I.D.
another one of their videos that seems to be trying too hard to be "artsy".
I think he just likes being over the top. I find nothing wrong with that.
I know it's an embarrassing question... but is he gay?! I don't hate gays or anything like that, but it'd make it really awkward to like this song... xD
Well if it's awkward for you to like a song just because it was written by a gay man, maybe you do have a problem with gays? If you like the song, you like it. His sexuality shouldn't bother you.
It's not that it bothers me, it's just a bit awkward. I don't mind gays, I'm just not sure why everyone's so defensive over being gay lately and everyone's coming out as gay, I've just gotten tired of it so much and wish it wouldn't be treated as if it happens every day and everyone should do it or something. It'd confuse kids and then little boys would start experimenting and fucking each other.
+Melody Jones it DOES happen every day.
What???????????????
This looks like it has the same creativity and budget of an Animal Collective video, but if AC was gay
ayyyYYYYY!!! yes yes yes yes YES go go go GO GO GO
awesome!!!!
One of the best moments in pop culture in 2014.
Now this is an abstract video!!. Awesome XD
@Troy Hoff
It looks like a fella living with HIV (the people dressed in Silver), dormant at first, surfacing as AIDS at 1:16 leading to a final meal/ last supper @ 2:12 . The figures all around the table are a visual pun (something on the lines of an orgy/ gorging consuming the person).
Is it inspired by Kubrick's Clockwork Orange and Keith Anger?
marvelous
Devenir Gris.
The 80s are still alive! But it's the shitty part of it...
Art is universally recognizable. This is trash
Anyone who truly appreciated art would never say that.
@FKA Twigs News Oh yeah, you did go there. A fitting reply.
Ignorant soulless person
@exostalker nope this is trash
@stephan selby Don't talk like that about yourself buddy, I'm sure you're not. Today might be a bad day, but don't do anything stupid - suicide is not a solution. Cheers and all the best
He reminds me of Rocky.
this reminds me of erasure.
I can see why Miss Le Bon likes you x
This is great. Unlike Taylor Swift who claimed her latest album would go back to the 80s synth sound and instead was more now than now. This music really digs way back to the original new wave band suicide and songs like Diamonds, Fur Coat, Champagne. This is a song that had it come out in the 80s would've required Quaaludes.
sooo good
I fucking LOVE this song and the video, it's a fucking classic. I wish there was more of it so I could dive into this world. It's so punk/no wave but in a modern way. It's totally inspired me. So fucking original, and real.
Thanks Claire.
maybe baby
Next gay big thing
Every time he says "maybe baby" I can't help but think of that scene in American Dad where Roger says "maybe baby" and then all of the customers/employees in whatever store he's in says "maybe baby" too.
maybe baby
Great song, fucked up video
maybe baby.
