Im fan of a-ha since a little kid. I really hated it when someone covered this song... But damn. Pentatonix! You got it! And not only this song. Love you guys..

Nice. Okay. Liked their recording much better than when they sang live with an orchestra. Not a huge fan of this arrangement but they hit the notes, and I enjoyed that. I really like this song by Aha, so I admit bias. Pentatonix presents a bouncey arrangement and for me, the original has melancholy in the words. I wanted Pentatonix to, in their arrangement, imbue the melancholy I hear, but they went with bounce, and missed the richer part of the song, in my opinion. Their version doesn't suck, but their arrangement captures only the surface and misses most of the song. They got the perky but that's easy. Their harmonies are beautiful, the singer singing about stumbling around, while singing in an affected style, doesn't match what the singer is saying he's experiencing. His words and the way he sings them, aren't in sync. His singing style is modern, urban, but his words are of a young teen having no clue as to what to say to his first crush. He delivers the lyrics like a 30 year old professional singer, but his words, the point of view of the song, is from a teenage boy and about how his inexperience with his new feelings makes him feel inept, because of inexperience with relationships, and yet he's determined to at least try to win his shy lady. It would've better served the song if the singer singing about stumbling around hadn't sounded like a professional crooner who'd sung hundreds of love songs. For me, that got in the way of my enjoyment of Pentatonix's version. Because of what I listed above, for me, their arrangement was just okay. Of course, as Pentatonix are competent singers, their singing sounds really good. This was a solid double. Maybe they can try again. This version isn't a mess. They just seem to have sang it, but not thought about it. They harmonize but didn't think about how the protagonist's point of view should shape their delivery. They got the pop vibe but entirely missed the vulnerabilty of the singer. He's asking the person he likes to choose him but doesn't know the words to woo her. The vulnerability, the youngster's intense desire to be chosen, is completely missed in Pentatonix's arrangement. The vulnerability romantic love can make you feel, the intense desire to have your loved one love you back, is the heart of this song, and it's something most people feel. Pentatonix's arrangement misses that. They should take another swing at their arrangement.
