Peggy Lee - The Alley Cat Song Lyrics

He goes on the prowl each night,
Like an alley cat.
Looking for some new delight,
Like an alley cat.

You know, she can't trust him out of sight,
And there's no doubt of that.
He just don't know wrong from right,
Like an alley cat.

He meets them..
And loves them..
And loves them...
Like the "Catsanova" does.

I mean that's no way to treat a pal,
She should tell him "Scat!"
Aren't you sorry for that gal,
With her alley cat?

He meets them..
And loves them..
And loves them..
Like the "Catsanova" does.

I mean that's no way to treat a pal,
She should tell him "Scat!"
Aren't you sorry for that gal,
With her alley cat?

Yeah, that's the sad, sad tale of a lonesome frail.
Yeah, that's the sad, sad tale of a lonesome frail and her alley cat.

The original title was Danish, translated; Around a piano.
Became a hit on the Amarican marked but was renamed to Alley Cat.

My Kindergarten graduation song in 1963.  The pianist played if purrfectly, and I have never forgotten it.  I never knew it had lyrics until 40 years later when I heard this version w/ Peggy Lee singing it.

Thanks for this posting; I like it and I like Peggy Lee very much. You should hear this song played by its author Bent Fabric or by Liberace: they are nice versions too.

  12. V.... ....

I like Peter Sellers' story about the hooray who kept asking Alan Clare to play "That's What You Are" - after racking his brains, Alan gave up and said he was sorry, he didn't know it - then suggested the chap sing it. So the chap sang, "Unforgettable - that's what you are..."!

Thanks, Vinnie. Same for you, but avoid eating too much! And if you do, think of practicing some sporting
activity the day after! For me, it's usually two or three games of Ping Pong! Wiki? You mean Wikipedia, of course!
I found Peggy's song easily, even with the wrong title, since she doesn't have lots of songs dealing with cats, but it's true that a wrong title can be misleading sometimes.

  14. V.... ....

Thanks for the heads-up, Victor. People looking for it might MISS it with the wrong title! Can't remember where I got the other title, but Wiki (my bible) says you're right, so I've amended it accordingly. Thanks - and a Happy New Year. Vinnie.
