Pearl Jam - Mankind Lyrics

you'll be
going out with radio
going out with disco
going out like bacchanal
i'll be
going out with telephone
going out alone
to the radar zone
it's all just inadvertant imitation
and i don't mean mine
it's all across this nation
if it's just inadvertant simulation
a pattern in all mankind
what's got the whole world faking?
i'll be playing with my magazine
using up my listerine
like ovaltine
and you'll be
dipping in your battleship
for the latest tip
for the latest dream
it's all just inadvertant imitation
and i don't mean mine
it's all across this nation
if it's just inadvertant simulation
a pattern in all mankind
what's got the whole world faking?
if it's just inadvertant imitation
a pattern in all mankind
what's got the whole world faking?
what's got the whole world faking?
what's got the whole world faking?

    Foo Fighters?

Very underrated song. Pearl Jam would have been better off if Stone had continued to be the main songwriter throughout the last couple decades. He was the force on the early albums (which is their best material) and his contributions on the later albums are hidden gems. It's too bad Eddie kind of took over and has dominated the songwriting. I've always liked Stone's material a lot better.

Never a Vedder fan but absolutely love this Gossard gem. Imagine if the Ramones could have covered this.

    D.... C....

They could have. No Code came out in 96. Would've been awesome!

    D.... C....

    or if it feature Pitbull

  14. E.... R....

maybe the best PJ song, great lyrics!

  15. E.... W....

Love how this song just said screw what you’ve done to the music and how you’ve tried to market it and turn into something artificial and plastic trendy

  16. W.... S....

mankind utilizing mankind's trusting good natured instinctual behaviors as weapons against mankind
like hearing cattle to the slaughter, against mankind's own will. , what to do about that?

Such a great song from my favorite Pearl Jam album. I love Stone Gossard!

  20. L.... F....

lmao ohh my god😂 I love PJ 💓💓

  21. A.... M....

This sounds like "Don't Gimme No Lip" from the Lost Dogs album. I think Stone wrote both of those songs. And yes, this song is very much in the style of the Foo Fighters. Simple pop rock music!

  22. B.... B....

    Good song!!!!!

  23. D.... ....

    Nostalgia

  24. V.... V....

    Who´s sing this song? Gossard?

    Vinicius Visentini
    Yes

  25. N.... K....

Does anyone else get a kind of punks vibe almost reminiscent of Dino Jr and I also agree with the dude who said this reminds them of Foo Fighters

    N.... K....

@Noah Kankanala Early Foo Fighters, hell yes!

    N.... K....

I was definitely getting a punk feel

    N.... K....

yeah, it sounds like foo fighters and a great punk vibe lml

    N.... K....

I was gonna say Guided by Voices

  26. s.... ....

such a fun song! Stone should sing more songs!

  27. T.... O....

    one person missclicked

  28. M.... K....

    Best lyrics ever.

  29. b.... p....

crazy how much of a different band it sounds like, goes to show how much of an impact the vocalist makes

    b.... p....

Many (or dare I say most) bands can be ridiculously less recognizable without their lead singer, no matter how good or bad they or their lead singer are. Certain bands definitely have a "sound" where you can tell right away by guitar/drums/bass/etc who it is (Nirvana/Zeppelin/Primus for example) but the human voice has so many unique nuances and differences and tones that make it easier to peg as a certain band. I don't think it reflects positively or negatively on Eddie's singing, I just think it's awesome and even better considering it's Stone's baby.

    b.... p....

Sort of but this still sounds so pearl jamy. It's like that CD where they are Neil Young's backing band. Just sounds like pearl jam with Neil young.

  30. L.... C....

is it me or the vocals sounds unusual..?

    L.... C....

Its Stone Gossard singing, not Eddie Vedder

  31. D.... V....

    Cool song about memes

  32. N.... S....

read somewhere about this song- It’s a sarcastic, wry song, smiling at a joke that the uninitiated just do not get. Stone’s voice is perfect for that.. so true!

  33. k.... ....

Yes, yes, yes, agree, especially from their first album.

  34. k.... ....

I like this jam, no pun intended. Reminds me of early Foo Fighters, sorta of a cross of Big Me, This is a Call and For All the Cows.

    k.... ....

This is one of the best, but most atypical song of their career. Brilliant.

  35. p.... ....

some pictures of the front cover are a mistery :)

  36. 3.... ....

    got a Foo Fighters feel

  37. L.... ....

I did not realize it until this past weekend, but this is track # 11, and this video was uploaded in '11. Weird.

  38. I.... F....

If you're familiar with Stone's solo album "Bayleaf", this is very... stone like. I like it wen he sings :)

  39. k.... ....

    Stone singing lead

  40. 9.... ....

    bleed together?

  41. 9.... ....

sounds like a soundgarden song i've heard.

  42. m.... ....

This could almost pass off as a Foo Fighters song! It's far more "pop" than the typical Pearl jam song.
