Paxton, Tom - Wish I Had A Troubadour Lyrics

Wish I had a troubadour a-sittin' by my knee,
Playing stately rhythms of the ancient balladry.
If I had a troubadour, I'd signal with my hand
And he would sing for you.
He would sing for you until you'd smile.

[Chorus:]
Wish I had a wind I'd bring it by.
A gentle western wind to dry your eye.
A southern wind to keep you from your cryin',
I'm still tryin'.

Wish I had a castle clown with bells upon his hat,
Doin' tricks and somersaults, you'd have to laugh at that.
If I had a castle clown, I'd call him to your side,
And he'd do tricks for you.
He'd do tricks for you until you'd smile.

[Chorus]

Wish I had a Royal Ballet, to summon at my will.
Dancin' by the candlelight, some lovely old quadrille.
If I had a Royal Ballet I'd signal with a nod,
And they would dance for you,
They would dance for you until you'd smile.

[Chorus]

[Repeat Verse 1]

A Tom Paxton song with video by Doug Lang was the last thing on my mind this morning. So glad I found it though. The song, Tom's lovely voice and the photos of so many people I love and admire gave me goose bumps and a great start on the day. Bless bless.

Good on Chris for fooling me. After I'd finalized the video and uploaded it, I had a funny feeling looking at that shot. Oh well, it's done, and at least people know it's intended to be Luke.

Very nice video but unfortunately I have to point out that your Luke Kelly photo is actually a less than brilliant impersonator called Chris Kavanagh

You have done an absolutely fantastic job with the various photos - the fading in and out effect melds perfectly with the spirit of Tom's song. Thank you very much as I enjoyed it a lot and it made me very emotional as well. Bravo!

What a beautiful video, thank you for sharing, so beautiful. I wish I had a way to go back to those days when we used to sing these songs at college parties, everyone in a circle breaking out the guitars and singing folk songs in hope and joy. I was just looking for marvelous toy, and what a treasure I found, thank you for this lovely video. I am smiling... with a tear, too :)

@Tompaxton2 It's been too long since I've seen and heard you, Tom (Vancouver, years ago now). Thank you for all the songs along the way.
