Paxton, Tom - When You Shook Your Long Hair Down Lyrics

When you shook your long hair down
When you sat beside me
All my terrors came to town
And they began to ride me
I was left without a word
I lost my situation
Oh when you shook your long hair down
You shook my whole foundation

When you shook your long hair down
My defences crumbled
Feeling I'd begun to drown
All my words got jumbled
Not a word would come to mind
I felt a child of seven, oh
When you shook your long hair down
I saw one hope of heaven

I was left without a chance
No hope of a returning
Oh in your eyes I saw a glance
Of all my bridges burning

You know you were hardly fair
You'd already won me
With my heart already there
You had to go and stun me
Took the ribbon in your hand
Pulled it till it parted
When you shook your long hair down
You know what you started

I was left without a chance
No hope of a returning
Oh in your eyes I saw a glance
Of all my bridges burning

Yes when you shook your long hair down
When you sat beside me
All my terrors came to town
And they began to ride me
I was left without a word
I lost my situation - oh
When you shook your long hair down
You shook my whole foundation
When you shook your long hair down
You shook my whole foundation

Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Tom is one of the true greats of folk music as a singer songwriter and performer. God bless him.

I heard this song first in the middle of a sunny day during the 'punk wars' - 1977 (ha ha). It really is a perfect love song. Tom was doing bits of touring again four or five years back. He sounds completely grounded and good fun. Your video is subtle and lovely too.
For some reason it reminds me of the song "Raglan Road" as the singer already sees his DOOM once he is besotted. (again: hahaha :-). Really nice video. Thank you.

  3. D.... B....

All these years he has never gotten the credit he is due for writing so many excellent songs

  4. R.... S....

Now this IS a love song of tenderness and meaning

Beautiful ... beautiful. What a sweet song. I met Tom Paxton in Wolverhampton, England in the mid-sixties. He is a lovely man. Greetings to one and all from Jarrahnut in wonderful Western Australia.
