Pavement - Summer Babe (Winter Version) Lyrics
Ice baby, I saw your girlfriend and she's
Eating her fingers like they're just another meal
But she waits there in the levee washes
Mixing cocktails with a plastic-tipped cigar
You wear on the protein delta strip in an abandoned house
But I will wait there, I'll be waiting forever
I'm waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting
Minerals, ice deposit daily
Drop off the first shiny robe
I've got a lot of things I want to sell, but
Not here, babe, Tokyo
Every time I sit around, I find I'm shot
Every time I turn around, my friend, every time I sit around, my friend
Every time, every time, every time, every time, every time, every time,
You're my summer babe
Summer babe
Summer babe
Summer babe

Pavement Summer Babe (Winter Version) Comments
Tokyoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
So who heard this song, thought that you could start a band, then you realize that you need other people and thought, fuck it I don't need (or they don't understand). Still an awesome song.

Beabadoobea - "I wish I was Stephen Malkus" brought me here

I was big into Nirvana. I remember after I wore out those albums I wanted more great grunge. Read about this album in Spin and elsewhere. About how brilliant it was supposed to be. So I bought the tape unheard. Put it on and I was like: what is this shit? The guy can’t sing and the band can’t play. Plus what the fuck is he talking about? But since I spent my dishwashing money on it I kept playing it. Took a few listens but I came around, though I still think think that every time this comes on.

The "Slanted and Enchanted" album by Pavement was released on April 20, 1992. Light up a lovely joint and enjoy the incredible music! Classic Indie Rock forever!!!
Still my all-time favorite album!
Fucking A
butter 08 did it better
getting back to my roots, and listening to these tunes, even better off valium
As soon as I get my overdrive pedal, I'm gonna run it through my '67 tube amp and play some fking pavement.
This cover always reminds me of Zorak's keyboard on Space Ghost
Malkmus sounds just like Lou Reed sometimes.
Great album opener.
Saw a comment in a modest mouse song referencing this song. Decide to check it out, and I'm so glad I did. Can't believe I'm just finding out of about them now in 2019. My new favorite band
This is terrible ,..and it's the beginning early roots as to why music sucks in 2019 and we have crap like death cab all over our radios ,..sucking now
Sorry guys, I just wanted to read the lyrics.
And she's eating her fingers
Like they're just another meal
And she waits there in the levee wash
Mixing cocktails with a plastic-tipped cigar
My eyes stick to all those shiny robes
You wear on the protein delta strip
In an abandoned houseboat
I'll wait there, I'll be waiting forever
Waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting
Minerals, ice deposits
Daily drop off the first shiny robe
I've got a lot of things
I want to sell but not here babe, you took it all
Every time I sit around I find that I'm shocked
Every time I sit around I find that I'm shocked
Every time I sit around I find
Every time I sit around I find
Every time, every time, every time, every time
You're my summer babe
Summer babe
What is the final cord being played as the song fades out?
When I saw them in the 90’s they had an xtra guy in the band that played everything, great band.
BON SANG
I think a lot of people who hear this song would take for granted the fact that it came out as early as it did; 1992. It's hard to overstate how ahead of it's time Pavement was.
This song still kicks ass 26 years later!!!!
Isn't this the mother of all indy rock songs going forward after?
Great guitar and drum work, but I'm still waiting for the melody to kick in.
Maybe there isn't one?
This pairs well with anything by Violent Femmes, and you all can have it.
I'm sorry.
I love indie and alternative rock and I heard such great things about Pavement for years in various music mags,
but this all leaves me seriously underwhelmed (the singing / tune; NOT the instrumental backing which is indeed good).
Happily, some other bands (in my opinion) totally live up to their praise.
It saddens me that I tune into some legendary band for practically the first time
and find that I can sing better than the singer (*at this period in his career; I hope he has improved since then),
when I'm so used to legendary bands with singers who are awesome with great musicality,
who could kick my ass around the block.
And- I'm not a singer.
Will check out, however, all the rest of their songs before I write more, but this is a bad first impression.
If you guys like it- great!
I think you’ve missed the point, homeslice.
Lol, you either get Stephen malkmus, or you don't.
Im making a short film around this song.
Remastered Pavement is worthless
Ice Ice Babe
Love Slanted and Enchanted, cos, I've got a coat thats full of rocks and sand.
Summer Babe (Winter Version). Jesus, I find I'm carried away by the simplest word play. Listening though, I feel vindicated -- beastly guitar, real to me. Did little dude say, "Shiny robe"? Shiny robe.
Great indie track, especially on vinyl
Ice baby
i love all Pavement, but this song is so far above any song by any band. At least it's on a very short list of greatest songs ever...
I like music that was released in the 90's, but I hate "90's music." Anytime someone says they like 90's music it's always the boring shit that was annoying back then (like sweater song) and now it's just nostalgia because they hate their life.
yummyjackalmeat nah the sweater song rules
Danny America it got old for me.
Yeah sweater song’s tight cmon man
yummyjackalmeat sugar ray was pure
Such an underated band, Pavement was a lot of the 90's for me
LOVE THIS!!!!
Kudos to Pandora
Yeahhhhhh
God, I'm old.
Me too bro.. I had this when it came out on tape. Still love it!
I played LOTS of alt-music in college the first half of the 90s--no memory of this song whatsoever. And it's a Rolling Stone top 500 song. Just meh.
that's what i thought. this song doesn't sound good. the drums are too loud and don't sound good and they take away from most of the enjoyment that could have been had by this song. also this isn't a very good or creative song. it's the worst song on this album as far as right now.
what i can't believe is how i haven't seen any comments about this album being so much of a Pixies ripoff. the dissonant noise, the discordant guitar rhythms, downbeat melodies and keys, the noisey, clattering, raw guitar rhythms, the side or after thought, in the background talking, the interplay between the two singers in one song, the off kilter, cooky way he sings which is exactly like black francis in pixies, and the heavy, hard, loud, throbbing drums which make it sound heavier and harder rocking and edged is all Pixies.
now i will give credit to this band for this album. it's still a great album it's just so glaring how they ripped off Pixies. they stole a lot of their sound for this album. and because of this it's hard for me to totally enjoy it or endorse it. i have to give a disclaimer, an addendum, or footnote, or a preface everytime i talk about this album now that i have heard it of but it's a ripoff of Pixies.
now i understand that after Pixies it's impossible to make indie, punk music that doesn't sound like Pixies but you should try to not sound so much like Pixies with your sounds.
Nahhh... it's too restrained, too introspective for the Pixies.
You’ve always been the critic’s darling
And a hit at all the fancy parties
But for me, man you don’t do nothing
I see through your charade
I hate you Chardonnay
You’re the grape that launched a thousand strippers
The soccer mom’s favorite sipper
I can’ think of anything sicker
Get the fuck out of my backstage
I hate you Chardonnay
I hate you Chardonnay
I hate you Chardonnay
I hate you Chardonnay
I see through your charade
I hate you Chardonnay
Not here babe TORRRTUUUUUUUURRRE
Insane genius melancholy inspiration...
...on the, forty-five.
brimful of asha
What's with Tokyo?
She's mixing cocktails with a plastic tipped cigar.
any day now- JJ Abrams and Disney will buy Pavement and ruin it!
grendelwasajedi Already did - it's called S Malkmus and the Jicks
mesmerizing- best song on the album
i love how grungy distorted and indie this song is
How about "Walkin' On Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves, and "Sunshine Girl" by The Parade?
1:24 1:30 always get me
This song is 90's indie rock perfection, love the noisy guitars.
couldn't of said it better!
ice baby, I saw your girlfriend...
If you like pavement check out Memphis via Mars. Great lofi record. So unique
Nice Pavement mix for the uninitiated:
1) Grounded
2) In the Mouth a Desert
3) Spit on a Stranger
4) Range Life
5) Killing Moon (Bunnymen cover)
6) Summer Babe
7) AT&T
8) Gold Soundz
9) Major Leagues
10) Secret Knowledge of the Backroads
11) Pueblo
12) Texas Never Whispers
13) Frontwards
14) Cut Your Hair
15) Zurich is Stained
16) Elevate Me Later
17) Here
Nice little trip around their catalog, pretty much every album, and a couple EPs represented. Nice flow. I burned this mix onto a CD in 2003. Moved it to my phone later. It has never gone stale. Give it a whirly bird. If you don't know the band well I promise you'll be obsessed by the time you finish the mix. All time greats! Pavement on and on to the breaking of the fucking sun!
NO, that isnt a good pavement playlist at all!
Pretty good intro sampler.
The lack of silence kit is disturbing
Thanks kindly, stranger x
I bought a death grips vinyl on Amazon and this came instead. Never even heard of pavement, looked them up before returning it. Decided I'm gonna keep the record cuz it's pretty fuckin good
Yes! Telos. You were blessed.. also check out Slanted Rain Slanted Rain and Brighten The Corners.. they're even better imo.. I still adore everything these guys did. But those two are my go tos.. These guys became a drug for me years ago.. funny how some of the best songwriters and my favorite voices can hardly sing on key lol 😉 I just cant say how wonderful this band is...
I saw these guys at Red Rock's back in ,like, 91 or 2.. with Mudhoney Sonic Youth and Primus.. one of my all time best concerts..
That's so cool
Why would you buy a record on Amazon? Fucking open up google, find a local record shop and buy your music there. Record shops can now order offline (not from amazon, typically) if what you're looking for isn't around. Jesus.
Wise choice
Fuck yeah 90s grunge/emo/indie whatever ...this is too cool
For school shit
Why is this song so fucking awesome? Geez!
hell ya
Best pavement song.
They sound like Silkworm on this song, I don't know why the Crust Brothers didn't play this on Marquee Mark, Tim Midgett would have sounded great singing Stephen Malkmus' lyrics.

@elf boy I was ready when I started listening to it
we were more than ready for it in the 90's
Number 292 on the "Rolling Stone Magazine 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list.
Writer: Stephen Malkmus
Producers: Malkmus, Scott Kannberg
Released: April '92, Drag City
Did not chart
Atom Blast
pay atention to rolling stone in 2017 , PLEB
Yeah you have to go Pitchfork with all the other hipster trash for a higher rating!
They literally changed a weezer review from 1 star to 5 stars after they got popular
Rolling Stone is shit
That's why I'm here. I'm working my way through the list. I'd never heard this song before.
Pavement "Summer Babe" (Winter Version)
Lync's Cue Cards seems inspired by this fantastic version. Miss both groups <3
oh babe, it's summer.

Look at us pathetic generation Y'ers with our youtube accounts. No one these days could come out with an album like this.
this is radical
“don't go!”
Played the shit out of this in 1992. College, weed, girls......
lol what a penisdump!
+J Van Son weed is/was ILLEGAL 1992
It was released in April 1992 numbnuts. I had the CD.
Really? Who told you that?
That laugh at 2:05 gets me every time.
damnright!
You mean every time, everytime, every time
Fuck yeah. Pavement! I don't listen to anything past 1994
Your bad. There's still a lot of great music out there, grandpa.
By the way I graduated that year.
Thumbs up,but that's just wrong.
@haxor758 Sorry, but it's all about the 8k now. Better luck next time.
@MultiUnreal :c
@haxor758 The price is wrong. You have been voted off the island.
Such an awesome song. As catchy as a cold.

Unless you've heard sweet jane.

Unusually respectful and diplomatic comment for a youtube video. I applaud you.

LOL punch'em in the ear!!
The drums and bass are so good on this track
What about "Save it For Later" by English Beat?
How can one say they say a song reminds them of this song if they haven't heard this song yet? Pause and look at your flawed logic!! Can't people take a joke/ribbing any more?? WTF!!
You forget your period at the end. lmfao you're so fucking stupid how are you able to breath.
lol you are such an angry autistic boy. I'm just gonna ignore you.
you most not realize this but 1992 can't hear you, or do you mean you record music because of the year 1992 ? either what you said doesn't make sense.
No reason to be so hypercritical of his pointing out that these guys were first to the punch. The phrase "it reminds me of..." often indicates that something is derivative of something else. What you or anyone else has heard is irrelevant. That Brimful of Asha heard Pavement and unconsciously borrowed a chordal pattern rather than the other way around is, whether it bugs you or not, relevant.
1992 - This song/album is the reason I make/record music today.
Glad to see that some Asians like good music
20 years old and hasn't aged a bit.
初期ナンバーガールの曲を聴いていると、このバンドを聴きたくなる。ギターが切なくてドラムがドコドコ暴れてて。夕暮れを想起させる楽曲っていいなーと思うよ、いくつになっても。
