Pavement - Range Life Lyrics
After the glow, the scene, the stage
The sad talk becomes slow but there's one thing I'll never forget
Hey, you gotta pay your dues before you pay the rent
Over the turnstiles and out in the traffic
There's ways of living, it's the way I'm living, right or wrong
I want a range life if I could settle down
If I could settle down then I would settle down
I want a range life if I could settle down
If I could settle down then I would settle down
Run from the pigs, the fuzz, the cops, the heat
Pass me your gloves, this crime it is never complete
Until you snort it up or shoot it down, you're never going to feel free
Out on my skateboard the night is just humming
Well, I got absolutely no one, no one but myself to blame
Don't worry, we're in no hurry, school's out, what did you expect?
I want a range life if I could settle down
If I could settle down then I would settle down
I want a range life if I could settle down
If I could settle down then I would settle down, yeah
Out on tour with the Smashing Pumpkins
Nature kids, I, they don't have no function
I don't understand what they mean and I could really give a fuck
Stone Temple Pilots, they're elegant bachelors
They're foxy to me, are they foxy to you?
I will agree they deserve absolutely nothing, nothing more than me
Dreaming, dream, dream, dream, dream

Pavement Range Life Comments
Realizing the original lyric was "I won't arrange life" and they just changed the title is pretty cool and makes perfect sense..
note to self....why do i love this so much?....
those toilets haha
Was the line "elegant bachelors" originally "arrogant bastards" or have I fallen into a Mandala time warp?
Whenever I hear this song I think of you, Sarah w/ an "h", wherever you are...
why the fuck are you bleeping your own music
The ugliest skirt leather jacket combination no one would ever idolize.
During my visits to Vancouver, BC, I always felt like a character in a Pavement video.
Why is Pavement so boring? I really tried to like them
Perhaps the problem is you?
Because indie cred works the same way hype does.
Droopy music, off-key singing, and a kind of insistent carelessness in playing appeal to places like Pitchfork and college radio, and those elements dominated the nineties. Sonic Youth is another one. Belle & Sebastian, Yo La Tengo, and the Mekons come to mind as well.
Those bands all have plenty of fans who are entitled to like what they like, just as you are. It's just that with those crowds, you have to put up with the insistence that their preferences are superior to yours, and any suggestion to contrary is made at your peril.
1:39 lol
Just not for me
Sometimes I get really
Into the video and forget about the censor at the end and jump out of my seat
Good♡
0:17 I have that very same dukes of hazzard lunch box, w/ the thermos!
this is it
The beginning where the girl finds the time capsule and it's pavement is sooo fucking meta
ohh come on man ... censored???? what the fuck
Wow. This really brings back a flood of smiles, tears, pains, loves, apathy, motivation, and confusion.
THE BLEEP
Re-master this shit in HD, domino!
Gimmie lo-fi indie rock in HD, IM SERIOUS (seriously, not sarcastic)
Wow. Jack-apple skirts will never work.
far out it's good
Music by no-talents for people without ears.
always makes me sad this track
The sloppy way which Stephen sings that famous line makes me smile every time.
Great song!
You can tell Mac Demarco is inspired by Pavement.
I want a Pavement reunion so I can settle down!🤓
They're playing Primavera in Barcelona and Porto next summer. Go range.
I may be "old", but at least I grew up in the last generation that had great music. Now you have to search for it like we did when we were low on weed. Ah I miss the 90's.😂✌🏻
boomer characteristics
Ironically if he had "settled down" I believe he'd be much happier.
I want a range life if I could settle down....
Look how excited indie rock audiences used to be. When was the last time you saw an indie rock audience that excited?
He's good that Spiral Malkmus, innit!
Is that Matt Damon at 3:26?
Aside from the touring references, I feel like this is the story of my life. It's kinda an apologia for loving to roam: If I could settle down then I would settle down. This song always leaves me feeling melancholy and forlorn, with thoughts that it's not an easy life. But who'd want any other kind?!?
(In terms of theme and tone it reminds me of Eef Barzelay's "I Love the Unknown"...another GREAT song!)
3:22 Neat Rollerskate Skinny shirt. Kevin Shields’ brother was in that band.
Also, whoever that is on the right at 3:03 is super cute.
1:55 oh hey look its avey tare
Is this song supposed to be good?
The Smashing Pumpkins and Pavement are two of my favorite bands. Fuck whatever beef they had!
nice beep
I would rather dunk my ears and acid than listen to this song ever again
What a horrible song
tears in my eyes, I really wanna go back to 90’s
2:30 - Stephen Malkmus was the original milk shake thrower.
Fuck you Domino. Why the fuck would you fucking censor a song on the fucking internet? That's a fucking downvote you fuckwads.
I love how it looks like Malkmus is rapping at 2:12
Steve West at 1:35 looks EXACTLY like former Eagle Don Felder.
porto john footage sweet! been there!
Agora que a minha vida está na faixa correta, vou ouvir esta musica !
♥ 🌎 ✌️
Smashing Pumpkins made some timeless records and didn't do this apathetic monotone thing that these guys and a few others did. They put their all into it and I respect that a bit more than the lazy alt punk folk thing from the 90's
ok pleb
Hahahahaha yeah that’s what I thought
love this band so much!
Shark boy got the "dream dream dream dream dream" inspiration from this song
If you put this at playback speed at 1.25x it could be the dead
whoaaaa
the first time I listen to them, I have already fallen in love with this song
College days memories 94-97 LHU...💙
Br 2019
This song makes me nostalgic for a life I never lived.
338 Corgans don't like this song
This has different vocal to the album version on CD - was the single a different mix?
Whoa, Frogs shirt at 2:50
Beavis and Butthead tribute there at the end?
"Out on tour with the Smashing Pumpkins
Nature kids, I/they don't have no function
I don't understand what they mean
And I could really give a fuck"
....some of the greatest lyrics ever written.
Nature kids, beware
😂😂😂
Minha adolescência br
hey.....cool.
At 4:16, Bob slamming the cymbals to ‘Summer Babe’
Avey Tare brought me here.
They're way foxier than the stone temple pilots
Why the fuck is this fucking song fucking censored?!? This is the fucking internet not radio! Fuck you!
After the glow, the scene,
The stage, the set
Talk becomes slow
But there's one thing I'll never forget
Hey, you gotta pay your dues
Before you pay the rent
Over the turnstile turn out in the traffic
There's ways of living
It's the way I'm living
Right or wrong,
It's all that I can do,
And I wouldn't want to let you be
I want a range life,
If I could settle down,
If I could settle down,
Then I would settle down
I want a range life,
If I could settle down,
If I could settle down,
Then I would settle down
Run from the pigs, the fuzz,
The cops, the heat
Pass me your gloves, there's crime
And it's never complete
Until you snort it up or shoot it down
You're never gonna feel free
Out on my skateboard
The night is just hummin'
And the gum smacks are the pulse
I'll follow…
"The stone temple pilots, they're elegant bachelors, foxy to me, are they foxy to you? I will agree they deserve absolutely nothing, nothing more than me"

Oh no, brainless censored version, noooooooooooooooooooo ............
Pure awesomeness.
I never listened to this band before but I understand now where I get my style/fashion sense.
Pavement is definitely on the soundtrack of my youth! Still have a concert tee from 1995
Now listen to Who'll Stop the Rain
iS THIS l-palooza from 92????
From the Shawshank open to girl with the purple lipstick, this gets me every time
Best commercially acceptable pavement song ever ? Yeh probably.
Even by normal standards about a bezillion times better than anything I’ve ever heard since nineteen eighty whatever
Im in this clip- whilst queuing up to meet them at the signing tent with Sebadoh at Reading 1994. Good times :)
You just never know where you will find a Dukes of Hazzard lunch box and what will be inside.
