Paul Williams - Somebody Super Like You (Beef Construction Song) Lyrics

We need a man that is simple perfection
There's nothing that's harder to find
Someone to lead us protect us and feed us
And help us to make up our minds
We need a man that's sophisticated
Quiet and strong and well educated
Where to go what to do
Could it be somebody super like you

We need a man that can stand as a symbol
And symbols have got to be tall
Someone with taste and the tiniest waist
With his help would not life be a ball
If we had fun he would not restrain us
If we got caught he would just explain us
Where to go what to do
Could it be somebody super like you

We pledge allegiance to his gracefulness and charming manners
With a voice that's both sides choice he'll bring us to our knees in admiration
He is king of all who see and hear his perfect pitch
And more surprises when his time is come a stallion rises

We need a man with a head on his shoulders a nose that is simply divine
Hollywood smile and a perfect profile and with eyes that would sparkle and shine
Long flowing hair for a crowning glory
There'd be a man who could tell our story
Where to go what to do
Could it be somebody super like you

We pledge allegiance to his gracefulness and charming manners
With a voice that's both sides choice he'll bring us to our knees in admiration
He is king of all who see and hear his perfect pitch
And more surprises when his time is come a stallion rises
Rises... rises... rises

  15. D.... ....

Don't know why but I sing this song to my pet pigeon, i replace every "man" with "pigeon", and call the song "The rise of pigeon king" and he simply loves it. When I start singing he starts his pigeon dance.

  16. D.... G....

I like the song, but it presentation in Phantom of the Paradise is disgusting.

    D.... G....

It's pure camp - it's not meant for kids I'll grant you, but it's not supposed to be taken seriously. It's like slapstick comedy, melodrama or a Vincent Price horror movie.

    D.... G....

You're right. The first time I watched it was in 2005 (I was 5 years old, and my parents didn't like that I watch the movie. I didn't care this song, I liked other things) Now I'm 19 years old, but I don't like it at all. Faust song is better than Somebody like you in my point of view, but it depends on the person's likes, and it's understandable.

  17. C.... R....

You gotta admit, this scene is pretty cool. I would watch this performed live.

  18. I.... ....

I so desperately want to do a drag king routine with this song.

  19. D.... S....

Totally loved this movie when I first saw the movie,

The closest Paul ever came to glam & metal! Touches of Alice Cooper & pre-Bat out of Hell! Thought it was such a stretch for him to play a boozing drug taking partying type.....then I found out later...
    he really WAS like that!
& like most took it too far. Glad he's clean now!

    C.... H....

I didn't know any of that until I saw the documentary Paul Williams Still Alive. It really surprised me. Am happy he cleaned up his act (and in the same year I was born, 1990)

I wonder why Winslow offed Beef instead of The Undeads/Juicy Fruits/Beach Bums because he obviously has a stronger distaste for their music as shown by the outburst towards philbin and attempted murder by way of dynamite.

    L.... J....

Long john Silver Beef was trying to sing a song meant only for Phoenix. Winslow killed him because he was infringing on his art.

The singer sounds like Alice Cooper!!!

    S.... d....

Mm...no, not really, but I like your ideas.

    S.... d....

That was more or less the point. They had the 50's greasers pop rock, then happy sounding Beach Boys and this is the horror rock.

  46. T.... ....

    Best song on the soundtrack

  47. A.... A....

My dad introduced me to this movie. Both the film and the music ROCK!

This movie is Horrible, but the soundtrack is amazing, I love all this fucking songs, love it

    s.... h....

+salvador hernandez Horrible? I don't think you saw the same movie I did. Paradise is a fantastic film that was ahead of it's time

    s.... h....

so true - went to the movie last night - sold out - all of older people there remembering watching it at 10 years of age - horrible but the music was awesome

    s.... h....

+salvador hernandez you're crazy you don't know what talent is.

  49. e.... ....

Watched this early Brian De Palma Classic on DVD last night, I hadn't seen it for years. Fantastic! It's everything that THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW was supposed to be-or wants to be- but isn't. Main difference? This one has a SOUL and characters, not ciphers.

    e.... ....

Absolutely, that's part of its charm.

    e.... ....

    Pfffft. Says you.

    e.... ....

Huh? Why bash RHPS just because you like this? In my opinion, they're very different. I love RHPS, and no not because of all the audience participation stuff. It's not super deep but it's fun and has a special magic to it. Then this show is its own unique thing, as well. The plot is pretty convoluted and bizarre, so honestly it lost my interest after a certain point, but the style and acting and music keep it intriguing. I particularly liked the parts with Winslow before he gets his face smushed. There was just something really interesting about him. I watched this movie because I'm a big Phantom of the Opera fan (the book, etc.)...this movie, of course, barely has anything to do with the original story...except the "disfigured guy who writes music and wants a specific female to excel versus an obnoxious diva" aspect (I had to laugh at the "Carlotta"/diva in this version, a funny twist!). But the rest is more Faustian music producer mogul stuff. That was a tangent. In any case, while I guess both are "weird movies with fun music," they're extremely different. You can like one, or both, or neither independently of the other. I don't think RHPS wanted or was trying to be this at all!!

    e.... ....

eibon81 They’re both excellent films. One is more of a musical while the other is a movie about Rock ‘N Roll 😎✌🏽🎉🇺🇸

    e.... ....
