Paul Weller - Around The Lake Lyrics

There's a vacuum
In the back room
Of a ballroom after dark

There's a triumph
In the buy out
Of a sell out in the park

It's only in the gaps we find
A solace in the quiet
That leads us to we know not where
It all goes on around the lake

Some insurance
After paying
Sometimes rush
Who knows? Not us

It's only in the weeds that bind
Some barbed wire in your diet
That leads us where we don't belong
If alt grows dark around the lake
Jt all goes on around the lake

Some disturbance
In the hedges
On the ledges
Very tall

Some commotion
Like a ripple
On the water
from a pebble thrown

  4. M.... ....

    i dont care

  5. M.... ....

my city is sitting pretty hows yours

  6. j.... f....

    Peter Gabriel?

  7. c.... ....

No, I notice its' the same melody which is a common trick in rock music. Note how the Doors' Hello I love you sounds like the Kinks All Day and all of the night.

  8. N.... ....

amazing song. I think BaronVonPenguin is an idiot.

  9. T.... ....

Similar to christine by siouxsie and the banshees? am i the only one hearing that?

  10. B.... ....

Jaysus man, you're obviously not on form with sarcasm. I may be many things but one I'm most definitely not is a mod, be it elitist or not. Poncing about Brighton in me threads is not something I've ever done or am likely ever to do. But you're right about the Style Council;)

  11. A.... J....

well said...sick of these so called mods who cant see past 1979.

  12. A.... J....

typical elitest mod comment...dont forget mod is short for modernist which by definition means keeping things fresh and new...you want weller to keep churning out albums like stanley road? I bet you complained about the style council as well.

  13. g.... s....

@ pretty green 1970,who do you know it has confused the likes who can't see past going underground,if that is the case f***s knows what they made of the style council and they are still listening to around the lake, wouldn't have thought so.

  14. l.... d....

    blur+bowie+interpol

  15. N.... ....

From all the songs on the new album, this one appeals to me the most. And the video I find fascinating.

  16. M.... R....

sounds so hip, i love it paul weller showing all these young wankers whos BOSS !

  17. C.... ....

old school , fucking amazing !!!! lo justo pes mostro

  18. T.... F....

I think it's pretty "Okay" to say the least. It's hard to expect that much from this age of music and I'd rather listen to Paul Weller than Katy Perry or Lady Gaga.

  19. q.... ....

    Exciting tumbs up Mr Weller

  20. s.... ....

@taffytop weller doesnt need your money - hes got enough- what part of the "changing man" didnt you get? you can get together with others at the" from the jam" concerts and talk shit about Weller pretending its 1980 in your parkas

  21. s.... ....

ahh all the old mods are getting their knickers ina bunch because wellers gone all bowie on them- i for one think this is a good thing as hes been playing the small faces card to death - bowie was a mod anyways originally so its all good-

  22. s.... ....

great but im noticing all of wellers songs lately are always ending around the 2.00 minute mark when he could keep them going since they are great- almost ending too soon in many cases

  23. C.... ....

Check out Casual Agenda on you tube while we're living (we should be free)

    Cheers

  24. s.... ....

    @modphil64
the sad thing is phil, that a LOT of weller fans ARE still "mentally" wearing the same clothes as 20+ yrs ago and just want weller to reel out the same old same old strange town 2012. luckily this guy has constantly moved forward, with an ear to the past, but not LIVING in it.

  25. B.... ....

"Sonic Kicks will be ground breaking"?? Ha Ha Fuck off!! This is nothing more than that shite David Bowie song Hallo Spaceboy crossed with some dreadful Beady Eye cack. How am I supposed to ponce around the gaff in me latest threads to this? I can't even fantasize about going down to Brighton on a Lammer cos I just keep thinking of Bowie singing into a lamp in highheels;)

  26. J.... 0....

Absolutely fantastic only Weller could jump around like this ,5/6 years ago a writers block (wishing on a star) to this today awesome true legend

  27. j.... r....

It sounds better than anything on 22 Dreams or Wake Up The Nation.

  28. t.... ....

whilsted all the people in the town said " the Emperor is wearing the finest clothes anyone has ever seen" a little boy said "the Emperor is wearing no clothes", all of the people looked again and they could see, that yes, the Emperor was not wearing any clothes. The people of the town felt very foolish indeed.

  29. f.... ....

    @taffytop
Hardly. You prefer the labels. Kiss my arse!~

  30. k.... ....

@gasserized same feelings here!weller is ace!

  31. N.... ....

he's so different, but he's still good, consider him a new artist and then he's great, but if you're gonna compare this to Going Underground then ofcourse it's crap.

  32. k.... ....

    scary monsters super creeps.......

  33. N.... ....

    taffytop you're a troll.

  34. M.... J....

Wa'll ir's not Gaga. So I'm buying. The Jam is the greatest band since the Sex Pistols and the Kinks,

  35. M.... ....

The Jam played on the TV show, 'Something Else' in 1979 alongside Joy Division. I know Weller liked them. The late Mr Curtis would love this. I do too.

  36. S.... G....

    amazing!

  37. D.... M....

Great tune. Reckon this'll be a quality live tune.

  38. A.... D....

This song seems to be getting a lot of undue hate.

  39. w.... ....

@taffytop Better yet, stick it up you're fucking arse.

  40. n.... ....

fuckin great song. i can wait to get sonik kicks cd. paul weller genius of music of all times. long live the modfather. we are the mods.

  41. b.... ....

    Absolutely love it!!!

  42. S.... B....

Quality tune , always had it always will

  43. K.... R....

@andylanc05 Quite. Has anyone else managed to maintain this level of consistent quality throughout their career? I can't think of many. Fair enough, the stylistic changes won't always please everyone, I accept that, but sometimes people come out with absolute shit about when he supposedly 'lost it' and just can't move on from The Jam. Their loss. All the solo albums have had inspired moments, and this one will be no different.

  44. D.... C....

If you liked WUTN then what's not to like about this track. I've got my tickets for March & can't wait to hear the entire album played live.

  45. K.... V....

    this kicks ass-paul is god!

  46. a.... ....

@Krudster Totally agree. The same fans who let out an audible groan at gigs when he plays things like Dust and Rocks (tune) and anything more contemporary. I understand that they have their memories of The Jam from back in the day but the appeal for me with Weller as much as anything is, his ability to move on and push boundaries.

  47. J.... 8....

@Krudster For me his last album was a little disappointing but this sounds great.

  48. a.... m....

Love it. Once again PW moves with the times. Superb!!

  49. S.... C....

@taffytop no one cares keep it to yourself

  50. K.... R....

Is there anything more boring than cloth-eared Weller 'fans' who moan every time Weller releases new material. I guess you get used to it. To these 38 year-old ears, it's a slow burn growler that'll kick off live.

  51. h.... ....

gr8 shout about ftj but lets not get into the tired old arguement.....& just sit back and acknowledge that this is WELLER_WORLD and hes all the better for it!

again the great man just ignites another firework into his musical inferno....hes having the time of his life & this shows......i
    keep the faith

  52. m.... ....

weller stll on top of his game...super

  53. T.... ....

i loved this the first time i heard it, looking forward to the album sonic kicks !

  54. m.... ....

to all of you so called weller 'fans' that bitch & moan when he does something different, look in the mirror....are you still wearing the same clothes as 20 years ago? times change, it's about time you did. i like the fact that weller tries everything in his music these days, if it works for you, great! if not, tough shit!

  55. S.... ....

Yet another song that unimaginative old Jam fans are sure to hate.

  56. S.... R....

Sounds like a reject from the fabulous 22 Dreams that didnt even make it onto Wake Up The Nation - having said that Weller is still God

  57. t.... ....

The Emperor is wearing no clothes

  58. g.... ....

    Fookin great.
And for all you who don't like it fook off and shout your requests for Eton Rifles at your nearest FTJ concert.

  59. t.... ....

    Gary Numan B-side at best

  60. S.... ....

    @taffytop LoL

  61. t.... ....

My money is staying in my pocket
