Paul Simon - The Werewolf Lyrics

Milwaukee man led a fairly decent life
Made a fairly decent living, had a fairly decent wife
She killed him. Ah, sushi knife
Now they're shopping for a fairly decent afterlife

The werewolf is coming

The fact is most obits are mixed reviews
Life is a lottery, a lotta people lose
And the winners, the grinners with money-colored eyes
Eat all the nuggets, then they order extra fries

The werewolf is coming. (Extra fries)
The werewolf is coming. The werewolf's coming,
the werewolf's coming, yes, the werewolf is coming, Joe

I hear her howling, prowling on the hill
The werewolf's coming, Bill

Ignorance and arrogance, the national debate
Put the fight in Vegas, that's a billion dollar gate

Revenue, pay per views, it should be pretty healthy
The usual deductions, then it all goes to the wealthy

Still, the werewolf's coming
Yeah, the werewolf's coming

I'm not complaining, just the opposite my friend
I know it's raining, but we're coming to the end
Of the rainbow, the lyin' and the spyin' are through
Oh, you don't know me?
OK, I don't know you, too

The werewolf's coming. Werewolf's coming, oh
The werewolf's coming, and a werewolf's coming
The werewolf is coming, Joe

I hear her howling, prowling on the hill
The werewolf's coming, Bill

You'd better stock up on water, canned goods off the shelves
And loot some for the old folks who can't loot for themselves
The doorbell's ringing, could be the elves
But it's probably the werewolf. It's quarter to twelve
And when it's midnight, and the wolf bites

It's a full moon, she really got the appetite
The werewolf's coming
(The werewolf, the werewolf.)
The werewolf's coming
(The werewolf, the werewolf.)

  19. n.... ....

My two favorite musical geniuses: David Bowie and Paul Simon.  Would love to see "Stranger to Stranger" and "Blackstar" in a tie for album of the year.  Unfortunately, the Grammies will probably ignore the both of them for the latest rapper.

  20. l.... b....

Thanks for this great music Man of G-D!

  21. A.... U....

unlistenable. this from a man who could write great melodies and lyrics with the best of them. when u cant write great melodies anymore you stoop to this, drum loops and talking smack over them and add in two doo wop chords. admire simon but this is crap. of course their will be those who say this is his best work. puhlease....

    A.... U....

Paul Simon's fart is better music than most of last two decades (so called) composers.

  22. D.... H....

I'm not a big Paul Simon Fan . I know he is a strong artist with his own distinct voice, and I like some of his stuff, but it doesn't always speak to me. THIS SONG IS AMAZING. It's 50 ways to fear the future. It properly captures the moment like no song has in a long time. It is "A Hard Rain is A'Gonna Fall" about 2 minutes from now, It Might be the elves, but it is probably the werewolves....

    D.... H....

Hard to believe one isn't a big Paul Simon fan. He's written some of the greatest songs with amazing poetry in his lyrics that I know of. I love Dylan, especially early Dylan and I find them pretty much equals. Both have consistently written great songs with great lyrics...with Simon's work being a tad more melodic and even beautiful, but I love Dylan's harshness and his unique voice. Oh well, at least you are honest. Glad to see you find this song to be amazing. Perhaps you're coming around? Cheers.

You are yourself... When you were a priest, you blessed all the children and you saved the prostitute... When you were a school teacher you were very strict about the rules... And when you went trick or treating you toiled papered all the houses... And when you were a used car salesman you knew how to reach an agreement... And when you were an orphan, you had a dream about your mother... When you were a straight A student, you reaped all the rewards... And when your sister died, you found Jesus... And when you were a vagabond, you were a vagabond tramp... And when you were in college, you played drinking games... And when you were a sailor you sailed up from the San Francisco Bay... And you even lived in London... But you are yourself...

  39. n.... ....

Could this be another "Graceland" or "Rhythm of The Saints"  ?   I hope so...

  40. J.... G....

Great voice!!! Great lyrics, too. Always quite witty.

    J.... G....

yes! witty! Also at some point in the eighties his lyrics started having much deeper meaning... Not that I didn't love his music long before that!

  41. S.... S....

This is yummy !!! "Sigh", .... Thank You, Paul Simon

  42. M.... S....

nothing but cool! love this man!

  43. s.... ....

Nice sound! Love the different instruments and hand claps :D

  44. C.... K....

Simon's solo worked has always featured some interesting percussion--and this track is no exception. His lyrics have always been  clever. His voice sounds great,  but as is the case with so many of the aging artists who have released recent recordings--I see no musical growth here whatsoever. I am afraid to admit this is true,  but it seems these artists are aware that the mainstream listening public shies away from complex and original harmonic sequences that occasionally challenge the listener and we are left with the same old three chord totally forgettable slosh. If you don't believe me, check out and listen to the top 5-10 pop songs on any week billboard and you'll see what I mean.
Musically, Simon is capable of things far beyond what I'm hearing now from him here.
We  live in a world where dumbed-down music has the only chance of commercial appeal.

    C.... K....

The fact that it's simplified down to its primal appeal doesn't necessarily mean that is dumbed down. Rhyme, rhythm and repetition are in our DNA. That's ok.

    C.... K....

I will disagree with your opinion even if I didn't understand most of it. I assume from your comment that you are a tenured professor of music at the Juilliard. This album is a masterpiece up there with Graceland in my opinion.

    C.... K....

I respect your opinion, but I couldn't disagree more. I find it astonishing that a man in his mid-seventies is producing music as fresh and vital as this. I find it inspiring.

  45. T.... E....

    Baffling.

  46. M.... ....

His voice hasn't aged at all, amazing!

  47. A.... A....

    Top form again!

Great song - I love the care and attention that each individual song is getting!

  62. L.... I....

Can't even describe the happiness I felt when I saw this. Thank you!!

  63. C.... O....

His voice never changes.... Best songwriter America has ever produced :))

    C.... O....

He was born in Newark New Jersey, but lived in New York from 7 on, where, while in elementary school, he met Art Garfunkel. But, New York, New Jersey, sister states, and American through and through either way.

    C.... O....

    @EnosEverything
No kdding I can think of many many bands, individuals male and female. Wow. and without the British invasion I still think we'd have kept on rocking (though their input is unmistakable in their excellence, transforming our blues and giving it back to us ooh .)

    C.... O....

    What better than Cole Porter?!
Possibly Simon is the greatest US songwriter ever!
I don't know about the greatest American poet since TS Eliot though, as Eva Salzman is pretty damn good!

    C.... O....

I think charlie means correctly best anywhere & i will add ... ever .

    C.... O....

@Mike Fuller, Walt Whitman, William Carlos Williams, Ezra Pound, Robert Frost...the list of "Greatest American Poets" is full, sure I think Simon is a great songwriter maybe not the best poet

  64. T.... o....

    Good stuff

  65. R.... M....
