Paul Simon - Take Me To The Mardi Gras Lyrics

C'mon take me to the Mardi Gras
Where the people sing and play
Where the dancing is elite
And there's music in the street
Both night and day

Hurry take me to the Mardi Gras
In the city of my dreams
You can legalize your lows
You can wear your summer clothes
In the New Orleans

And I will lay my burden down
Rest my head upon that shore
And when I wear that starry crown
I won't be wanting anymore

Take your burdens to the Mardi Gras
Let the music wash your soul
You can mingle in the street
You can jingle to the beat
Of Jelly Roll

Beautiful . Although I got to say the high voice sounds like the ancient pervert Hebert from Family Guy. I'm troubled forgive me.

Thought this was a great album from the first time I listened to it - and particularly this cut. The stereo acoustics of this cut just "shone" from the speakers. Still has a great sound.

Bob James has a nice version of this tune on his "Two" album on CTI. Listening to this again after so many years I wonder if Paul's vocals were slightly sped up. Also, Claude Jeeter's vocal contributions are just wonderful. Paul's guitar playing on this is also a joy.

This entire album makes me feel happy when I listen to it. I bought it shortly after it came out, and I still have a copy of it in my record cabinet. Thanks so much for posting it! This song was a big favorite, by the way.
