Paul Simon - Silent Eyes Lyrics

Silent Eyes
Watching
Jerusalem
Make her bed of stones

Silent Eyes
No one will comfort her
Jerusalem
Weeps alone

She is sorrow
Sorrow
She burns like aflame
And she calls my name

Silent Eyes
Burning
In the desert sun
Halfway to Jerusalem
And we shall all be called as witnesses
Each and every one
To stand before the eyes of God
And speak what was done

We can here this song at the end of the movie Shampoo (1975). But to me it's an accoustic version without the piano. Does this other version exists somewhere ?

The song Paul always says he wished he could have written himself was Silent Night. The parallels between that and this beautiful song are interesting.

Jerusalem besides being a City in the Middle East was the site where Nat Turner met his fate. Silent Eyes could be the watchful eye of illegal surveillance always watching for the Rebellion oppression has fomented and which rebellion tyrants will blame upon the oppressed. Fascists always blame victims. This evil world has not changed since the Crucifixion.

    Great song.
