Paul Simon - I Know What I Know Lyrics

She looked me over
And I guess she thought
I was all right
All right in a sort of a limited way
For an off-night
She said don't I know you
From the cinematographer's party
I said who am I
To blow against the wind

I know what I know
I'll sing what I said
We come and we go
That's a thing that I keep
In the back of my head

She said there's something about you
That really reminds me of money
She is the kind of a girl
Who could say things that
Weren't that funny
I said what does that mean
I really remind you of money
She said who am I
To blow against the wind

I know what I know
I'll sing what I said
We come and we go
That's a thing that I keep
In the back of my head

She moved so easily
All I could think of was sunlight
I said aren't you the women
Who was recently given a Fulbright
She said don't I know you
From the cinematographer's party
I said who am I
To blow against the wind

I know what I know
I'll sing what I said
We come and we go
That's a thing that I keep
In the back of my head

Does anyone know which effects pedals can make this sound?

I have always been a Simon and Garfunkel fan, but when I heard this album upon it's release, I knew something had changed and redefined him. This album is a masterpiece and will remain one of my favourite.

I'm totally fascinated by how these african women sings their part. It seems they sings with some delays between them or what it is this make it so particular ? I watched the Graceland reunion TV documentary and there were a short mention of these women, like their were coming with their babies and almost sung their part while at the same time beeing busy with their babies lol.

Paul Simon isn't a mere musician, he's a God blessed Psalmist. Those who know The Bible (as opposed to what anti-Christ churchians preach), can hear him revealing overlooked depths of it in every song of his.

Hearing this song I feel a faint neuron from my childhood light up. It's rather a singular sensation.

  88. H.... Y....

Last night, a local film production/equipment rental company hosted a well-attended event honoring cinematographer Edward Lachman. This song kept playing in my head. Now, whenever I run into anyone from that event, I can sing to them how we met.

  89. F.... R....

This could be the greatest album of all time

    F.... R....

@netscape82 I think you have distorted the reality here: Paul Simon to his credit recognised the beauty of South African Isicathamiya, mbaqanga and other styles of music and created this wonderful hybrid with his own immense talents. He gave a lot of exposure to South African music and I think did so with his own joy of participating with local artists. Who else did the same? And what an amazing collaboration it turned out to be. How does the word plagiarize fit in to this? There is immense musical talent in South Africa that to this day flies under the radar. At least this album has shed some light on what is possible if westerners twisted their ears to what was out there. Look at any list of top 100 hundred albums and you're unlikely to get single purely African one there. Which is a damn shame.

@netscape82 one of 2 things I get from that someone is trying to stir up bad controversy with Paul Simon or Paul Simon is a jerk but either way that doesn't change the fact that he is one of the best songwriters of all time (in my opinion anyone's could differ not trying to start a debate) just because he stole 1 song and if he did complete jerk move but the others most likely we're almost all his and they were almost all good

    F.... R....

Then you wake to collect tax payers money.

I've lived the same life. New places, new faces. No place as magical as the sunset against the New Mexico desert

    S.... P....

Me too. This is family trips in the back of my dads Jeep. ❤️

  97. a.... ....

Does anyone else think Paul Simon is giving a clever nod to Bob Dylan the way he delivers "Who am I to blow against the wind?" And why did it take me 32 years to notice? (Don't answer that.)

    a.... ....

the first concert i went to was paul simon and bob dylan lol

    a.... ....

My guess is that "Who am I to blow against the wind?" is an African phrase. Now, time for research!

    a.... ....

@speechrighter I think it might be an African phrase that Paul heard OR it's just a line that popped into Paul's head while he was writing this. A lot of the lyrics on this album are sort of stream of consciousness with Paul trying to fit lyrics to music. In fact, I seem to remember Paul saying as much in an interview. Also, why could not Paul be thinking of "Against the Wind" by Bob Seger? Could be. And giant sandworms on Mars could be planning and invasion of Earth. Many things are possible, grasshopper.

    a.... ....

    33 years for me...
    Thanks to you. 😉
