Paul Simon - Gumboots Lyrics
I was having this discussion
In a taxi heading downtown
Rearranging my position
On this friend of mine who had
A little bit of a breakdown
And breakdowns go
So what are you going to do about it
That's what I'd like to know
You don't feel you could love me
But I feel you could
It was in the early morning hours
When I fell into a phone call
Believing I had supernatural powers
I said hey, is this my problem?
Is this my fault?
If that's the way it's going to be
I'm going to call the whole thing to a halt
You don't feel you could love me
But I feel you could
You don't feel you could love me
But I feel you could
I was walking down the street
When I thought I heard this voice say
Say, ain't we walking down the same street together
On the very same day
I said hey Senorita that's astute
I said why don't we get together
And call ourselves an institute
You don't feel you could love me
But I feel you could
You don't feel you could love me
But I feel you could

I hate hearing Simon's lyrics over this brilliant music. They just don't match. This stuff doesn't need any lyrics.
To Paul Simon your Graceland album was my first love of music I was 4 years old it was my first album and is still the best nothing compares to your music and singing thanks for a lifetime of happy songs
Say, ain’t we commenting on the same website together on the very same video?
uhhh uhhuh uh uhhhhhhuhhhhhhh
I think this song really is about a woman the narrator is having a relationship with but is unsure if he wants to continue it. She is falling in love with him but he doesn't feel as strongly, therefore he disregards the idea that her problems or "breakdown" could be associated with him. He gets defensive because he doesn't want to be held responsible for her emotions or deal with talking about their relationship. The narrator knows the woman might be right (you don't feel you could love me) but doesn't want to acknowledge it yet. He isn't in a mindset to commit to anybody, but doesn't necessarily want to be alone. That's why he convinces himself that this girl on the street is flirting with him, looking for any reason to move onto something new before things get too serious. Really, he is the one that initiates things with the new girl and the cycle starts over again.
I love how the intro sounds, reminds me of 60’s spy music. This whole song is a masterpiece. I could listen to it forever, and never get sick of hearing it’s wonderful sounds, notes, lyrics, everything. It’s wonderful!
graceland is in my top 5 best album list for sure
The intro... wow.

¡Hey señorita!
"Why dont we get together and call ourselves an institute" XD
Soooo good.
I used to hate this song but after a crap ton of listens, I get it now. This song's a real bop, and a great addition to Graceland. Also that sax though
You don't feel you could love me but I feel you could... oooo oooo
The horns after that line really capture the feeling of longing and love waiting to be revealed for me.
A lot of quotes here. My favorite is "You don't feel you could love me but I feel you could" Hope I got it right.
Best album ever made!!
Even still in 2019!!
Loved this song the moment I heard it.
Why so many thumbs down? Jesus
Just stupidity.
Wanderwal music
This song brings me joy :)
This song is a classic. It has been heard, loved, and judged a piece of art. If you actually took the time to come here and vote it down, that is a judgment on you, not on Paul Simon & his amazing musical body of work.
if you disliked this album i dislike you so go listen to your shit music because this is just amazing on every single level
...😂😂😂😂😂 an excellent track indeed !!

Thank You
The 61worst people on Earth have listened to this song, apparently. That's crazy that all 61 congregated in this one corner of the intertubes.
They are preteen idiots. Just ignore them. Anyway, this album won the Grammy of the year. So, who am I to blow against the wind
This tune is just right. Its a musical equivalent of a smile.
Trucked many a mile with this album!😎

many people dislike those videos because those are reuploads again, it can be frustrating, i also thought for a moment "a new Simon song?" just to realize its a reupload. They prob think its a great song, its just annoying to see old songs getting reuploaded again and again
