Paul Revere & The Raiders - SS 396 Lyrics

Forget about your Hemi's and your GTO's
I've got a new machine, and she really gos.
When I pass you up on the drag strip you'll know darn well
You've been beat by a porcupine V8 Chevelle

Taching it up now, you better be quick
Cus' nothing can outrun my SS 396.

There's lots of chrome goodies sitting under the hood
She looks real pretty, like a tough one should.
On the redline tires, she sits real mean
She's the coolest hot one... you've ever seen
Crusing the highways, getting my kicks
Everyone's checking out my SS 396

Look at her go (look at her go)
She sits real low (she sits real low)
Dealer tires grip the road
Her deep breathing fours (deep breathing fours)
And they'll never settle short (never settle short)
Feel the rear end grab the load

Take you for a ride man, it's really a treat
Strap yourself into a bucket seat.
The four speed tranny is starting to whine
You'll know about the Super Sport
Once we get off the line

Crusing the highway, getting my kicks
Nothing can match my...SS 396

Look at her go (look at her go)
She sits real low (she sits real low)
Dealer tires grip the road
Her deep breathing fours (deep breathing fours)
And they'll never settle short (never settle short)
Feel the rear end grab the load

Take you for a ride man, it's really a treat
Strap yourself into a bucket seat.
The four speed tranny is starting to whine
You'll know about the Super Sport
Once we get off the line

Nothing can match my...SS 396

Feel her tires...not Dealer tires. Lol . Great song!

  2. J.... K....

😡WHY DONT THEY MAKE ROCK SONGS ABOUT CARS ANYMORE?

  3. R.... S....

I have this 45. This song is one side 1, side 2 has Corvair Baby.

  4. M.... L....

First time I was introduced to the Raiders. My grandfather owned a Chevy dealership and was given this record as a promo. My aunt thought I would like it...............sure did..........played it all.the.time. I think I was about 11.

  5. M.... S....

Back in the 60s we didn't have the internet but we sure had badass cars and had more fun!

  6. D.... G....

    I love my 66 SS 396 Impala

  7. R.... C....

A neighbor when I was a kid was a Chevy dealer. They played this 45 in their dealership as a promo. When the promo was over, he brought the 45 home and gave it to me, knowing I had a decent collection of 45s.

    R.... C....

The B-side was a song named "Camaro"

    R.... C....

B-side was by Cyrkle (Red Rubber Ball/Turn Down Day)

@Raymond Kitchen Thanks, Raymond. Wasn't sure who it was, just remember the song. Fun times.

  8. D.... ....

Bill...please change the lyrics BACK to "feel her tires". There is no such thing as "dealer tires".

    D.... ....

Yes, but not in a good way. Dealer tires are made cheap to drive the price of the car down another 100 bucks or so.

  9. J.... V....

The first time I listened to this I heard, "Feel her tires grip the road, Her deep breathin' ports" (not fours). I'm not a gearhead so would that even make sense?

  10. B.... B....

Nice video accept you should have put a 1966 picture of Paul Revere and the Raders and their classic lineup and not the line-up uou had pictured above

  11. b.... ....

    try this ss 396-425

    b.... ....

In a 65 Corvette? That's the car I remember them in from the factory.

  12. r.... ....

    LOOK AT HER GO

  13. H.... O....

Ah yes, the 375 HP solid-lifter "porcupine" 396.  Mated with a Muncie M20 or 22 it was a bit of heaven.  Signed, Old Phart....

    H.... O....

That was my first car in the summer of '74. It was a '68 with the 4 spd console. Loved it when I had to give two girls a ride home from work from my job at Burger Chef. Back then the girls were tiny, and I had the smallest of the two sit on the console when she was wearing her traditional mini white uniform dress. The 375 version I had sounded like it had 16 tiny hammers under the hood when I was idling at traffic lights.

mom had a 65Buick Gran Sport. 401 nail head with 325 horses, bamboo creme. did the quarter mile in 15.5/96mph. buried the needle a few times on Rt 80.

    H.... O....

    The L78!

  14. H.... G....

    Had a Gold 1970 SS 396.

    H.... G....

Yes, Hans, your '70 Chevelle was 'badged' as a "396," however it was actually a 402 CI with either the 330/350 HP.  I read this in Forbes.  "When he saw the breadth of his domain he wept, as there were no worlds left to conquer."(Benefits of a classical education)  Herr Oberst

    H.... G....

    Correct, mine was 350HP

  15. J.... H....

"Feel her tires grip the road" is actually "Dealer Tires Grip the road."

    J.... H....

Jeff I still think they say Feel her tires grip the road. this song was a promotional thing that GM hired PR & and the raiders for. you went to the dealer for a "test' drive they gave you a 45 RPM record. hoping you would come back and buy one for a mere $3000.

    J.... H....

It's "feel her tires grip the road"

    J.... H....

    It IS Feel her tires

    J.... H....

Dealer Tires? Huh? Were the tires optional from the factory?

    J.... H....

What the heck are "dealer tiers"? It's FEEL her tires. Don't change something that isn't wrong. There is no such thing as "dealer tires".

  16. J.... F....

    Memories !!!!
