Paul McCartney - Man We Was Lonely Lyrics

Man, we was lonely,
Yes, we was lonely,
And we was hard pressed to find a smile.
Man, we was lonely,
Yes, we was lonely,
But now we're fine all the while.

I used to ride on my fast city line,
Singing songs that i thought were mine alone, alone.
Now, let me lie with my love for the time
I am home, home, home.

Man, we was lonely,
Yes, we was lonely,
And we was hard pressed to find a smile.
Man, we was lonely,
Yes, we was lonely,
But now we're fine all the while.

Now, let me lie with my love for the time
I am home, home, home.

Man, we was lonely,
Yes, we was lonely,
And we was hard pressed to find a smile.
Man, we was lonely,
Yes, we was lonely,
But now we're fine all the while,
But now we're fine all the while,
But now we're fine all the while.

Paul McCartney Man We Was Lonely Comments
  1. O.... ....

I think McCartney is a forgotten gem of an album. Paul was going through a rough time realizing that the Beatles were no longer going to be a group, and I think he was truly heartbroken over the breakup. The songs are rough around the edges, but that’s what makes the album great.

    Beautiful

Linda with her sweet little honey voice!...

  4. .... ....

What a beautiful melody... better than Every night..

  5. J.... S....

Great album with pure rock and folk......bought it then, listened to it a lot...songs so memorable, never forgot them...started in Macca London home studio but finished in rigged up, primitive Scotland farm studio and generator power,,so different from other music then, but hippie flavor.,,,

  6. J.... ....

I find this to be true. All the while.

    Paul and Linda 🎤🎶❤️❤️❤️

  8. C.... S....

everything is great but the country like chorus that takes the namesake is brutally shit

The beginning sounds like Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody didn't come out for another 5 years...

@Bruce Boyers I wonder where Freddie got the inspiration

Dovydas agrees with you. His riff on Bo-Rhap sent me tracking down this song!

  11. c.... ....

I recall being disappointed with the album when I first heard it. Songs like this one are of a very poor standard, for Paul.

I all have To Say This Song Brings Me A Smile....

"McCartney" really feels like Abbey Road 1.5, both in that the songs sound like they could've been jammed during those sessions and also in that the lyrics feel like they reflect in some manner on The Beatles' breakup. If you put on this record right after listening to Abbey Road it just fees like a natural extension of it.

    A.... N....

and Band On The Run, and to a different degree, Free As A Bird and Real Love sound like Abbey Road extensions to me. Seriously, besides some obvious differences, but considering the instrumentation, listen to Free As A Bird after Abbey Road. I don't know about you, but to me it makes me love the reunion songs more.

  14. L.... L....

Esta y la de MULL OF KYNTYRE fueon las mejores baladas de PAUL, en particular esta rola me trae grandes evocaciones por alla de 1970 ¡ HACE 46 LARGOS AÑOS !

  15. C.... B....

Love that tremolo guitar. Bridge ("now let me lie with my love . . .") is pure McCartney melodic brilliance, the type that takes him about the amount of time it takes to sing to write, while mortals struggle all day and never come up with anything close.

    C.... B....

That line is classic, both lyrically and melodicly. Love that tremolo guitar, too! And Linda's echoing voice just makes the song!

    C.... B....

We 'mortals' come up with stuff superior to that all the time - daily, in fact - only it's hard to get your foot in the door.

  16. m.... ....

The whole album if written by an unknown would not have sold two copies.

    m.... ....

He was the last beatle to make a solo album. They had set a release date for it and Lennon knew all about it.
The Q&A pressnote/interview where Paul quit the Beatles was what annoyed John.

    m.... ....

@studer no sorry.. the beatles knew cause paul told them about the album mccartney and they all wanted paul to hold it back dont release it yet but he paul said No and he released it,,.. that was pauls ace in the hole fuck you to the beatles because they were over ( and paul never wanted it to end

    m.... ....

He was in fact given a release date for the album. and then they sent Ringo to say he had to wait because of Let it be-album. Poor Ringo...

    m.... ....

@studer The reason john was mad at paul was because of a whole album not some press talk..jonh said in an interview that he himself was becoming a silent guitarist ,,that was always georges spot (silent) john said this wasnt doing any of the others any good, thats what john said,,/ paul was soaring high in the band and he had perfected his craft and he was becoming a excellent composer. they had pulled the rug out from underneath paul.. paul got them back he had recorded his album in privacy then surprised them all. /////// Im not trying to upstage any one here on youtube comments.

    m.... ....

I don't believe that. I think it would have been a hit if it was written by an unknown. But since it was Paul, he was held up to the standards of The Beatles so the critics panned it because they were expecting a Beatles album. This album has some really really great songs.

  17. C.... F....

I think that this song is my favorite from the album. I was reading some album reviews and apparently this song gets panned as one of the worst songs McCartney ever reocrded. The first verse is really beautiful too. It really encompasses that feeling of peacefulness that he had in getting off the road and spending time with Linda in the country. "I used to ride on my fast city line singing songs that I thought were mine alone. Now let me lie with my love for a time. I am home, home, home."

    C.... F....

This is such a great song. I love it. The critics were just bitter and had a chip on their shoulder against Paul all throughout the 70s. But the cream always rises to the top and despite their hate, he still became a superstar again in the 70s with Wings with number 1 albums and a sold out world tour.

    C.... F....

its a great song about nothing

    C.... F....

    Oh yeah????

    C.... F....

Cole Furrh , ALL HIS STUFF PANNED FOR A LONG TIME, now re-evaluated and acclaimed

    C.... F....

@dogpetdog "a great song about nothing". If climbing out of loneliness and depression through love - expressed here with a charming touch of country irony - is "nothing" to you, I'm not sure whether to congratulate you or commiserate witrh you!

One of his best songs. This whole album sounds like his Beatle demos. Fantastic along with McCartney II
