Simplicity doesn't eliminate quality from the equation. He's a singer-songwriter, that shit ain't meant to be complicated.

Each artist has their own style and limitations. If you want technically complicated pop with soul, Laura Nyro set the benchmark with her LP 'Eli and the Thirteenth Confession' (1968). She used NYC's finest jazz musicians to play it.

No more experimenting with folk music son. This is back t o simple pop song material combined with fantastic lyrics. Finally, back to the Paul I know and love
