Patty Loveless - My Old Friend The Blues Lyrics
Just when every ray of hope was gone
I should have known that you would come along
I can't believe I ever doubted you
My old friend the blues
If sleep don't take me first, you'll come around
'Cause I know I can always count on you
My old friend the blues
Lovers leave and friends will let you down
But you're the only sure thing that I've found
No matter what I do I'll never lose
My old friend the blues
Lovers leave and friends will let you down
No matter what I do I'll never lose
My old friend the blues
Just let me hide my weary heart in you
My old friend the blues

Patty Loveless My Old Friend The Blues Comments
So many great versions of this great tune to choose from, not sure which one could be called the best? Every version does a little variation on the melody line vs. Steve Earle's original; but of course, a great song is still a great song, and that shines through no matter the arrangement right?
She does Blue Grass true to her voice. love it
loved this so much found a CD on Amazon and bought it. love Patty's all country voice.
Beautiful and talented songbird of soul and heartbreak ... a woman who talks to my inner sorrows. Comforts my soul when I’m I tears.
Check out the Katee Kross cover of this Steve Earle classic. It's another keeper'😁.
love Patty
Lovely bluegrass version of a wonderful song.
a true country singer, like Kitty Wells love her voice
💙I miss you “I” ...
Patty, your the definition of a country female artist.
Spent five years in Nashville, found Steve Earle but never this gorgeous voice 'til 'You'll Never Leave Harlan alive'. Now I know better. Patty's wonderful and I've been searching her back catalogue. No finer body of work exists in country music. I still have Towns leather belt, Steve, how do I find and give it to you as we all get older?
Wonderful phrasing. She sings it sort of like a love song and somehow it all sounds like the Byrds from 1969.
Beautiful voice......Great instrumental
She is so beautiful inside and out. Every time she opens her mouth to sing she is a blessing to someone and your right she is so under rated. But you know what? She touches hearts everywhere. I love to hear her sing she is truly a blessing to country and gospel blugrass music.
Vocally a nice cover, but blew it changing the music from Steve Earl’s original.

Still the the most underrated female voice in country music in the last 3 decades

Its kind of bluegrass - but if you really want a bluegrass version, search for Steve doing it with Del McCoury here on youtube.
